Maruti-Suzuki S-Cross; New vs Old
2018 Maruti-Suzuki S-Cross was showcased at an event in Hungary
Few months back an image was leaked of the new generation Suzuki S-Cross from a dealer event in Europe. Now last week the facelifted S-Cross was spotted in open at an event in Hungary. The car was showcased to a selected audience there. As we saw the car, it looked exactly similar like the image leaked few months back.
No wonder the crossover segment is becoming vehemently popular around the world. In India too, crossovers are taking a huge role in the sales volume for every automaker. So far, Maruti-Suzuki being the largest automaker in the county tried its hand in the premium crossover segment by launching the S-Cross. Last year the S-cross came in Indian market, which is based on the SX4 sedan.
The new Maruti-Suzuki S-Cross, as it will be known in India looks absolutely cool and very aggressive compare to the outgoing model. The car comes with a heavily revamped front fascia. The side and rear profile at exterior remains identical although. The interior of the car is also not very changed except a few subtle cosmetic makeovers.
The new S-Cross has already started to reach the Suzuki dealerships. In India we can expect the car to come in near future. Meanwhile we will take a look at both the old outgoing S-Cross and the facelifted one.
The new facelifted 2018 Maruti-Suzuki S-Cross looks way much aggressive compare to the outgoing model. The changes we can see incorporate an all new front radiator grille. The single frame grille comes with vertical slats and heavy chrome garnishing. The headlamp clusters also come trimmed and sleeker. The chrome trim inside the headlamps enhances the appeal. The front bumpe4r also looks redesigned, while the fog lamp enclosures come with chrome trim and blackened accents. The side profile gets chrome trim at the blackened glass area, sporty alloy wheels, side sills, sporty roof rails. On the other hand the rear profile seems unchanged.
Talking about the outgoing 2015 Maruti-Suzuki S-Cross the crossover comes with swept back large headlamps with LED daytime running lights integrated to them. The front grille sports horizontal slats with chrome garnishing. The front fascia also sports skid plate and chrome trim at the fog lamp enclosure.
Dimensionally, the 2015 Maruti-Suzuki S-Cross measures 4300 mm in length, 1756 mm in width, 1590 mm in height and 2600 mm of wheelbase. Also the car features 180 mm of ground clearance and 353 litres of boot space. Fuel tank capacity of the car stands at 48 litres. Expect the facelifted model to come with same dimensional measurements.
The facelifted Maruti-Suzuki S-Cross features subtle changes inside the cabin. The multifunction steering wheel, instrument cluster, centre console, touchscreen infotainment system and dashboard remain same. The only change would be a software update of the touchscreen infotainment system and more upmarket upholstery for the seats. Any feature update is very unlikely to come inside the cabin. Taking about space and comfort, the five person seater car is expected to come with same leg space, headroom and knee room like the outgoing model, as the dimensions are likely stay unchanged.
The outgoing model offers quite a spacious interior to the occupants. While the comfort level is also pretty impressive. Expect the same in the facelifted model.
As it seems, the facelifted model will sport only cosmetic updates. As of now no powertrain update is on the card, as we assume. In that case the facelifted model will come with the same 1.3 litre DDiS 200 and 1.6 litre DDiS 320 diesel engines. The power output upgrade would be a positive change from the facelift model. We hope, the car receives a petrol engine as well, which would be a 1.0 litre Boosterjet engine. After all customers like the premium cars with petrol engines under the hood.
In the outgoing model, the 1.3 litre DDiS 200 diesel engine is mated to a 5 speed manual transmission and it churns out 90 hp of peak power and 200 Nm of peak torque. The 1.6 litre DDiS diesel engine on the other hand is paired with a 6 speed manual transmission and pumps out 120 hp of peak power and 320 Nm of peak torque.
The facelifted 2018 Maruti-Suzuki S-Cross would come featuring a price tag around INR. 10 lakh to INR. 15 lakh.
The outgoing 2015 Maruti-Suzuki S-Cross is priced between INR. 8.34 lakh to INR. 13.74 lakh.
