This Diesel engine is really special for Maruti because it has been developed in house by Maruti. The new diesel engine is a 0.8 litre 2 Cylinder turbocharged unit which is expected to produce about 50-55 Hp of peak power and 125 Nm of torque and since it develops 125 Nm of torque Maruti has also christened the badge accordingly. The reports also states that this diesel engine will be mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox while later it will also get a 5 speed automated transmission.
It is clear from the images that these cars are the demo cars which will be used for training and also test drives, and you can clearly watch that the decals and the stickers on the side profile which refers to the same DDIS 125 badge. Although you may not be too interested with the power output and the 793 CC displacements but this diesel engine promises to return an impressive fuel efficiency of almost 30 Km/l which also makes it the most fuel efficient diesel hatch of the Country.
The diesel Celerio will compete directly with the other diesel hatchbacks like that Chevrolet Beat and the upcoming Tata Kite hatchback.
