After the Maybach, S-Class and AMG cars, the German marque will soon manufacture the EQS at its plant in Chakan, Pune
Mercedes-Benz has announced 10 new models for the Indian market that will arrive in 2022. The S-Class equivalent electric limousine - EQS will soon be locally built in India and will allow the brand to price it competitively.
Based on the brand’s ‘Born Electric’ EVA platform, the all-new EQS is not based on an ICE platform like the EQC, EQA, and the EQB. In fact, the electric limousine feels even more luxurious than the S-Class because of its super silent cabin, thanks to the electric powertrain.
What makes Mercedes-Benz EQS special?
The all-new Mercedes-Benz EQS is the brand’s first-ever all-electric luxury standalone electric vehicle. It is the electric equivalent of the S-Class. The EQS offers some unique features and one of them is the Hyperscreen that spreads across the width of the dashboard.
Mercedes-Benz is yet to decide the exact variant that it will assemble in India. There are two variants available internationally - the 450+ or the 580. The EQS 450+ gets 334 PS of maximum power and the EQS 580 offers 523 PS of maximum power. Both the variants get a 107.8 kWh battery pack with a WLTP rated range of 770 km.
EQS will be the first Mercedes-Benz EV to be assembled in India
Mercedes-Benz will upgrade the Chakan plant to accommodate the electric powertrains of the EQS. The car will go on sale by the end of this year.
Mercedes-Benz is likely to bring the First Edition models, which are the fully-imported CBU versions of the new cars like the S-Class for the first lot of customers.
With the assembly of the EQS in India, more new electric cars can come to India taking the CKD route.
