The G80 saloon and GV80 SUV were spotted in Gurgaon
For those of you who don’t know, Genesis is to Hyundai & KIA, what Lexus is to Toyota. It is the Korean Automaker’s Luxury arm, and over the past few years, they have really upped their game. Genesis is now going after the likes of Mercedes Benz, Audi & BMW.
Hyundai Motor India, recently inaugurated their corporate Headquarters in Gurgaon. At their new HQ launch, they had a couple of really special cars from their global portfolio on display. They included the Hyundai Ioniq 5 EV, the Genesis G80 Saloon & GV 80 SUV.
Globally, the G80 comes with a range of powertrains. You can choose from a modest 2.0 litre to an outrageous 5.0 litre petrol and there is 2.2 litre Diesel if you’re after economy. You also have an electric option with dual motors on the G80.
The G80 has been spotted in India earlier this year. Should the car be launched in the country, it should pose a serious threat to the German competition, just based on price.
The Genesis GV80 is a full-size luxury SUV from the Korean brand. The SUV has been compared by people around the world to the Bentley Bentayga. That comes as no surprise because, both cars were penned by the same designer, Sangyup Lee. The big brash grille up front and the side profile of the GV80 are reminiscent of the English car.
Engine-wise, you have a 2.5-liter and a 3.5-liter petrol, and a 3.0-liter Diesel to choose from. All engines are mated to an 8 Speed Automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive.
Step inside the GV80 and you can really see how far the Genesis brand has come in terms of sheer design and quality of materials used. The interior is tech-laden with a great degree of customisability.
After Genesis became its own brand in 2016 under Hyundai, it has been striving hard to gain the attention of customers around the world, by offering the luxury experience at a far more affordable price. The company only recently made its European debut and more markets are to follow suit. We really do hope that India is one of those markets as there certainly is a demand for affordable luxury.
