Launch in coming months

Jeep has rolled out their first India made entry level offering the Jeep Compass from their Ranjangaon plant in Maharashtra. The new facility will be the primary or mother plant for all the right-hand drive Compass SUV which will be sold in the Indian as well some other International market of the World like Japan, Australia and UK. Almost 70 percent of the assembling is done in the Indian market, and for the first time in India, the doors are laser welded by robots. All these will ensure that the International standard of quality is maintained in the product although it is being made in the Indian market.

The Compass SUV will be offered with a total of 17 engine, gearbox and drivetrain options globally. As far as the Indian market is concerned the customers will get to choose from either a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol unit which is capable of producing about 160+ hp of power and 250 Nm of torque or a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine developing about 170 hp+ maximum power and around 350 Nm of peak torque. The transmission option will include either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. The reports state that Jeep has decided to equip only the diesel variant of the four-wheel drive setup. The transmission will send power directly to the four wheels of the Compass with the help of Jeep Active Drive four-wheel drive system.

Some of the main highlights of this entry level Jeep offering will include projector headlamps integrated with DRL lamps, 17-inch alloy wheels on the outside. Inside the top end trims will get the latest 7.0-inch Uconnect infotainment system; this system will integrate with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

For the safety of the occupants inside the SUV will get six airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Hill Start Assist, Electronic Rollover Mitigation and Traction Control.
