MG will launch all-new Astor to take on the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and more

The new and upcoming MG Astor will be launched on October 11 and is expected to be priced around a starting price of Rs 10 Lakh, and the top variant is likely to be priced around Rs 16 Lakh. This mid-sized SUV, a competitor to the Creta, Seltos, Kushaq and Taigun in the Indian domestic market will be launched with two engine options across eight variants.
MG Motor India will launch the Astor with a 1.5litre naturally aspirated petrol engine making 110hp and a 1.3litre turbocharged petrol engine which would make 140hp. There will be no diesel engine on offer for the Astor. As for the gearbox, the 1.3litre engine will be available exclusively with a 6-speed torque converter, while there will be a choice of a 5-speed manual or a CVT with the 1.5litre engine.
All the eight variants launched will be called Style, Super, Smart Std, Smart, Sharp Std, Sharp, Savvy and Savvy Red. The 1.5litre engine, manual transmission option will be available in the Style, Super, Smart Std, Smart, Sharp Std and Sharp variants, while the least comprehensive Style variant will not get the 1.3litre engine or an automatic gearbox.
Segment leading features
Some of the features which MG will be offering on the Astor are LED headlights and taillights, keyless entry, smart connected features, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, multi-tone interiors, 360-degree camera, panoramic sunroof, multiple driving modes and a whole suite of AI features.
The highlight is the inclusion of AI, or Artificial Intelligence features in the MG Astor. This would include a voice assistant and driver assistance features (ADAS). The Astor will be equipped with cameras and a radar system to enable these advanced features such as Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, etc.
Safety features include six airbags, ABS, EBD, ESP, traction control, hill start and descent control, etc. on the top-spec variants besides the ADAS features. The MG Astor would also get disc brakes on the rear to perform stopping duties.
MG Motor India aims to sell around 3000 units of the Astor each month.
