Toyota has finally decided to introduce the new generation Fortuner in India this November 2016.The new generation model shares or looks nothing like the old Fortuner, it even is based on a completely new and Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle (IMV) platform which also underpins Innova and Hilux Revo pickup truck.
Before we go into any other details let us inform you all that the new Fortuner prices in India start from INR. 25.92 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Fortuner will compete directly with its all time biggest rival the Ford Endeavour which was introduced back in January 2016 and has been here in the Indian market for almost 11 months now. The all new SUV provides seating for 7 occupants inside, talking about interiors the New Fortuner gets an all new interior which provides more refinement and luxury inside.
The new Fortuner is made available with both the option of a petrol as well diesel engines which are paired to a 5 speed manual, 6 speed manual as ell as an automatic. These drivetrains sends power to the rear wheels for both petrol and diesel however there is also an optional all wheel drive system available as well with the diesel variant only.
The all new Fortuner adopts Toyota’s latest styling language which is also seen on the new Innova Crysta as well. Towards the front face the SUV features a V shaped triple slat grille which also gets chrome embellishment on them. The sharp looking projector headlamps are fitted with Bi-Beam LED lamps. The front face also features LED Daytime running lamps as well. Towards the side profile the SUV is covered with huge Glass area while the blacked out pillars does also leave a premium impression. The new-gen Fortuner also muscular wheel arches, side indicators positioned on the ORVM’s and also an option of a 17 or 18 inch stylish alloy wheels. Towards the rear the SUV gets a redesigned LED taillamps.

Inside the new SUV gets a completely new dashboard which might look like that it has taken some of its inspirations from that of the Toyota Innova Crysta MPV. The dashboard design looks almost identical however the Fortuner gets a T Connect eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system which also comes integrated with satellite navigation. The all new 3 spoke steering wheel also gets multifunctional switches on them. The instrument console is all new and features a colour TFT display.
Some of the other features that the new Fortuner gets for the comfort of the passengers inside is 8 way power adjustment seats for the driver, dark brown leather seats, climate control, LED cabin lamps and a 6 speaker audio system.
Like we already mentioned already the Fortuner is made available with both petrol and diesel drivetrain option. Powering the petrol variant is a 2.7-litre (2,694 cc) four-cylinder, 16 valve engine with DOHC and Dual VVTi unit which is capable of producing about 166 PS of peak power at 2,500 rpm and 245 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. This engine is paired to a both 5 speed manual while there is also an option of a 6 speed automatic as well, these transmissions send power directly to the rear wheel. For all yo0ur information the petrol mill is the same unit which also powers the Innova Crysta MPV as well.
The diesel variant on other hand is powered by 2.8-litre (2,755 cc) four-cylinder, 16-valve with DOHC mill which is capable of producing about 177 PS of peak power at 3,400 rpm and 420 Nm for the manual transmission and 450 Nm of torque for the automatic transmission at 1,600-2,400 rpm. The engine is paired to a 6 speed manual and a 6 speed automatic transmission. Power is send to the rear wheels just like the petrol variant while there is also an option of a 4WD option as well.
RIDE AND HANDLING
The Fortuner has been fitted with a double wishbone suspension setup for its front and 4-Link with coil spring setup towards its rear. Toyota has also decided to provide Ventilated discs brakes for all its wheels.
For the safety of the passengers inside the Fortuner SUV gets VSC (Vehicle Stability Control) with BA (Brake Assist) which is notg available with the 2WD manual transmission). Some other safety features includes HAC (Hill Assist Control) which too is not available with the 2WD MT, DAC (Downhill Assist Control available Only the 4WD variant only), 7 SRS airbags for the ssafety of the passengers inside and lastly ABS with EBD as well.
