Datsun Launching More Powerful Ready Go In July Will You Buy One?
We answer all your queries and provide you with the right answer
The Redi-Go is the joint venture effort of Renault and Nissan which was not quite successful mainly because of the hatchbacks compact dimension which resulted in an insufficient interior room. The Redi-Go, when launched, was priced at INR. 2.39 Lakhs ex-showroom making it even more affordable than the Alto 800.
Now according to the recent reports, Datsun is all set to launch a slightly more powerful variant of the Redi-Go hatchback. Now just like the smaller 799 cc unit this 1.0 Litre, three-cylinder unit will also be borrowed from Renault. This is the same unit which also powers the KWID hatchback as well. Now the good news is that just like the KWID the Redi-Go will also get the AMT transmission as well which will be sold as an option beside the manual transmission.
Now installing a slightly more powerful engine and an AMT will be enough to make the Datsun Redi-Go hatchback a reliable entry level car? Well, we try to find out answers to all your questions.
NO THERE WON’T BE ANY CHANGE IN STYLING
To be honest, the Redi-Go is not a boring looking car at all. It was showcased as a concept at the 2014 Auto Expo and took just 2 years to launch it in the Indian market. The best part was that the production variant looked exactly like the concept. The more powerful variant won’t be different either if you all are thinking that the more powerful 1.0 Litre variant will get an entirely new design then I am afraid you all will be utterly disappointed.
Expect the more powerful 1.0 Litre Redi-Go to get some sticker work to make it appear different from the standard variant. If you are lucky enough then Datsun might think of adding differently styled wheels for the 1.0 Litre variant, while it will also feature a new badge towards the rear profile. In addition to all these Datsun might add some new exterior colour as well.
WILL IT GET A NEW INTERIOR?
Unfortunately not the Redi-Go uses the low-cost CMF-A platform after the KWID hatch, and there is no provision of extending the wheelbase to add some extra room inside the cabin so unfortunately there won’t be any changes made to the cabin. However. There is a possibility that Datsun might add some new seat upholstery to keep things slightly interesting.
If we talk about features, expect the 1.0 Litre unit to be available only with the top end T and S trim only. The interior features will include air conditioning plug and play audio system, central locking and power steering.
NEW POWERFUL ENGINE
Quite honestly the Datsun Redi-Go with the 799 cc engine was never a highway good car. The new 1.0 Litre, three cylinder motor will generate around 67 Bhp of peak power and 91 Nm of torque. The engine will be paired to a 5-speed manual transmission while the biggest USP of this hatchback will be that it will also get the AMT transmission as well as an option. So for those who want an inexpensive hatchback with an AMT transmission but no so fond of the KWID can obviously get their hands on the Redi-Go hatchback. Unfortunately, while the ARAI rated fuel efficiency of the 799 cc unit stands at 22.7 kmpl expect the fuel efficiency of the 1.0-litre unit to be below 20 km because of the engine weight and also the weight of the AMT transmission.
NOW THE BIG QUESTION WILL YOU BUY ONE?
Let us be quite honest with you if you are looking for a funky little car which has a powerful engine and also gets an AMT transmission then the Redi-Go is a good option. However, you also have to keep these thoughts at the back of your head, that the Redi-Go is a compact hatchback which has limited space inside the cabin, the boot is too small to store luggage for a weekend getaway. Lastly when it comes to safety features well they are almost next to none in this hatchback, and the interior too looks very basic which might not impress your family.
So if you are willing to make all these sacrifices then the Datsun Redi-Go 1.0 Litre is the perfect car you and your small family within a budget.
