Can Fiat Avventura Urban Cross be the most attractive crossover in India?
Fiat showcased the Avventura Urban Cross at 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo
Remember the amazing looking blue crossover sitting at one end of the Fiat pavilion at 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo? Yes, we are talking about the Fiat Avventura Urban Cross. The smart looking crossover is expected to be launched sometime during the upcoming festive season. Although in India, there are several crossovers on offer from several auto manufacturers. But it would be much to say that Fiat Avventura Urban Cross is going to be the most attractive looking crossover of India, once it gets launched in the country. But there are doubts as well.
The Fiat Avventura Urban Cross is just another variant of the Fiat Avventura. And the car gets the same engine and transmission under the hood, while the only changes available are the cosmetic features and updates at exterior and inside the cabin.
Here let’s take a close look at the Fiat Avventura Urban Cross.
SMART AND ATTRACTIVE DESIGN
The Fiat Avventura Urban Cross is unmistakably an Avventura, but with a few cosmetic updates. Check the front fascia. You will find laid back large headlamp clusters which features LED daytime running lights. The front grille is exactly shaped like the Fiat Avventura. Additionally it features chrome garnishing. The front bumper looks muscular as well, with sleek air intake featuring honeycomb mesh grille, black accents surrounding the fog lamps. It also features skid plate at the front bottom. The side profile sports 17 inch sporty alloy wheels with red inserts. Apart from that the side turning indicator integrated wing mirrors, silver painted side body cladding, sporty roof rails enhance the appeal. The rear profile features LED integrated taillamps positioned vertically and just beside the rear windscreen. Also there is a roof spoiler and skid plate at the rear.
THE INTERIOR BRINGS SPORTY CHARM
The interior of the Fiat Avventura Urban Cross is also pretty interesting. It dons a dual tone theme, which is sporty. Among the features it gets multifunction three spoke steering wheel, four round dials at the instrument cluster with two large dials and two small ones. The centre console looks a bit unusual. We would love to see it gets a boxy shape. At the middle of the center console the car sports a touchscreen infotainment screen with piano black accent surrounding it. The Fiat Avventura Urban Cross also sports features like panoramic sunroof, follow me headlamps.
FIAT SHOULD UPDATE THE POWERTRAIN
The Fiat Avventura Urban Cross comes with the same powertrain shared by the standard Avventura. It is powered by a 1.4 litre T-Jet petrol engine paired with a 5 speed manual gearbox which churns out 140 PS of peak power at 5500 rpm and 210 Nm of peak torque between 2000 rpm to 4000 rpm. The engine is peppy and kicks out enough power for this car to run on urban road smoothly, while an occasional off roading trip in weekend will not be bad we guess. Although Fiat Avventura comes with a 1.3 litre multijet diesel engine option under the hood, but it is not sure whether the Avventura Urban Cross will be sold with the diesel engine or not.
IT IS JUST AN ATTEMPT TO BOOST UP THE AVVENTURA
Despite being launched in India in October, 2014 the Fiat Avventura could taste the success yet. The car is priced at INR. 6.81 lakh (ex showroom, Delhi). The upcoming Avventura Urban Cross’s price on the other hand will start at around INR. 8 lakh. So, what do we get at this extra 2 lakh? A few bit of styling updates, different colours side body cladding, roof rail and all these accessories? No powertrain update is there. Therefore we find it pointless to spend that extra 2 lakh for Fiat Avventura Urban Cross, which is nothing but the same old wine in a new bottle. So, it is basically a gimmick to revive the Avventura lineup we can say.
WHAT WE HAVE AS ALTERNATES
If you are looking for a stylish and powerful car with efficiency, then we would suggest you the Maruti-Suzuki Vitara Brezza, which is closest competitor against the Fiat Avventura Urban Cross. The Vitara Brezza is powered by a tried and tested 1.3 litre DDiS 200 diesel engine mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox kicking out 90 PS of peak power and 200 Nm of peak torque. Yes, we know, you are just about to ask why Vitara Brezza, as it produces less power and less torque. Our answer is Vitara Brezza has been designed in a very aggressive truly attractive way. The car looks like a very efficient off road capable car. Moreover the 24.3 kmpl of fuel economy of Vitara Brezza is much better than Avventura Urban Cross’s 14.4 kmpl even better than the diesel powered Avventura engine which delivers 20.5 kmpl.
