The new SUV will most probably share the same drivetrains with the Innova MPV

Toyota will be launching the new generation Fortuner in India on 7th November 2016. Thus expect the bookings for the Ford Endeavor rival to commence within next few weeks.

Although we thought that Toyota will be launching the new gen Fortuner towards early next year but perhaps the less demand of the current generation model and strong competition from rival Ford Motors has prompted them to pre pone the launch date.

The new Fortuner underpins the same IMV platform which also supports the new Innova Crysta MPV which is already launched in India and received positive response from the people.

As far as the features are concerned the new Fortuner will get projector headlamps complete with LED lamps and integrated daytime running lamps, sharper overall styling, newly designed taillamps on the outside. While inside the SUV gets a redesigned dashboard which also has been equipped with a 7 inch touchscreen infotainment system, this infotainments system also gets navigation system as well. The other features also include an electrically adjustable driver seat, cruise control etc.

Under the hood expect the new Fortuner to get the same drivetrains which powers the Innova MPV. Thus the powertrain lineup includes the 2.4-liter GD diesel unit which is capable of producing about 149 PS of peak power and 343 Nm of torque. While the more powerful 2.8-liter GD diesel unit produces about 174 PS of peak power and 360 Nm of torque. Both these engines will be paired to 6 speed manual while there will also be an option of a 6 speed automatic as well. The Fortuner will be available in the Indian market with both 4X2 as well as a 4X4 wheel drive variant.

There is also a fair chance of Toyota introducing the same 2.7 Litre petrol engine as well under its hood which should help this SUV to sell in the Delhi NCR regions. This four cylinder unit was recently also introduced with the Innova Crysta and is capable of delivering about 166 Bhp of peak power and 245 nm of torque.
