4 Performance Cars That You Can Expect From Tata Motors After The Tie Up With Jayem Automotives
These cars will be well within the reach of average Indian buyers
Tata Motors recently announced their tie-up with Coimbatore-based Jayem Automotives to build performance-oriented vehicles recently. Like we already reported earlier this partnership would fully concentrate on performance oriented cars based on Tata Motors current product lineup. For all your information these cars will be developed under JT special vehicles PVT limited. So before we head into anything else let us first inform you all that Jayem Automotives is an independent Automotive R & D Company who designs, tests and manufacture a broad range of automotive components. Now, this type of collaboration is quite common amongst Auto manufacturers while some build their own units like Mercedes-AMG GMBH popularly known as Mercedes-AMG who hires independent engineers and manufacturers to customize Mercedes own product lineup. After Mercedes Jaguar too started operating their own special operational vehicles division which too develops performance oriented cars based on their current product. Then there is Fiat and Abarth.
While the names mentioned above are some of the high-ends luxury carmakers Tata Motors, on the other hand, will focus on performance-oriented cars which will be affordable and well within reach of average Indian buyers. Tata Motors and Jayem Automotives will build a workshop which will also have a design, assembly and testing facilities all under one roof. Now the reports suggest that this new collaboration will atleast be developing three cars soon and below provided are the three expected Tata Cars which will be prepared under this new 50:50 joint venture.
The first car which will get the new treatment will be the Tiago hatchback. Apart from getting cosmetic updates, this popular hatchback might also get some bump in overall power output as well. If we are not too wrong then expect the performance oriented variant of the Tiago might generate atleast 5-10 Bhp of more power from the retuned 1.2L 3-cyl Revotron unit. Thus the retuned variant might produce a healthy 94-97 Bhp of peak power. Apart from the power output expected the gearbox too also be tuned as well for better gear ratios. Later Tata Motors might also introduce a turbocharger as well to the 3 cylinder unit which might increase the overall power output to 100+ Bhp.
While we are still not sure about the cosmetic upgrades that this performance hatchback will get but expect the Tiago hatchback to get a redesigned sportier front and rear bumpers, a new set of wheels and perhaps an integrated rear spoiler. JT Special Vehicles Pvt. Ltd might include some sporty livery to the exterior as well. Just like the exterior expect the interior to also get new seat fabrics and mats along with aluminium pedals to complete the overall look.
EXPECTED PRICE: - We are still unsure about the prices at this moment but expect the special edition performance vehicles based on the top end trims. Thus with all the changes made to the hatchback expect the hatchback to be priced an additional 70-80 thousand more than the top end trim.
Tata recently launched the Tigor hatchback in the Indian market which is the compact sedan variant based on the standard Tiago hatchback. The car already looks fabulous and one of its kinds in the flesh especially with its smoked headlamps, coupe-like roofline and those stylish alloy wheels on the top end petrol variant. Expect this car also to get the same retuned petrol engine under the hood that you will find in the performance oriented Tiago hatchback as well. Apart from the drivetrain the other changes one might also notice in the new compact sedan might include new livery towards the side profile apart from a new set of wheels. The interior too will get some updates in the form of new seat upholstery as well.
Tata Bolt Sport
Although the Tata Bolt was not able to impress the Indian crowd like the Tiago hatchback that won’t perhaps actually stop Tata to experiment with the product. Tata Motors did showcase the Bolt Sport at the 2016 Auto Expo which equipped with a redesigned front bumper with bigger air ducts, sporty alloy wheels, blacked out B & C-pillars and an integrated roof spoiler which completed the overall appearance.
There were rumours that the Bolt Sport will get the 1.2 Litre Turbocharged Revotron MPFi petrol engine under the hood which is expected to deliver around 110 Ps of peak power and an equally impressive 170 Nm of torque. The engine will most probably be paired to the same 5-speed manual transmission but with different gear ratios for better acceleration.
Tata might also modify the Nexon compact SUV as well which is set for its Indian debut towards the end of this year. The compact SUV is also expected to get plenty of customization options and perhaps a slightly tweaked powertrain.
