The American Brand is planning to dominate the SUV market in India with a slew of new products including the seven-seater version of Compass
The American manufacturer will start this year with the arrival of the new Compass Trailhawk and a seven-seater version of the Compass. Later, the Grand Cherokee will make a comeback by the end of this year.
Jeep has an aggressive strategy for the Indian market. The brand will offer three new SUVs in the Indian market and all of them will be made in India to ensure competitive pricing.
Jeep Compass Trailhawk
The Compass received a facelift last year in the Indian market but Jeep discontinued the Trailhawk at the same time. The new Trailhawk facelift has been spotted testing on the Indian roads several times and the new version will arrive in the Indian market next month.
The Trailhawk rated Compass offers a much more off-road focussed feature list including a more capable four-wheel-drive system with a low-ratio transfer case. The Trailhawk will continue to offer the red highlights all over and will come with more aggressive-looking bumpers and alloy wheels.
The seven-seater Meridian has been one of the most-awaited arrivals from Jeep India. It is based on the Jeep Compass platform and is already available in the international markets as Commander. The test mules of Meridian have been testing in India for a long time now and finally, Jeep will officially bring the car to the showroom by June this year.
Even though it is based on the Compass platform, there will be major differences between both the vehicles including the cabin as well. Jeep will position the Meridian as a premium offering. With the bigger size, the Meridian will get a more powerful version of the 2.0-litre engine that develops a maximum power of around 200 PS up from 170 PS in Compass. The Meridian will take on the likes of Toyota Fortuner and MG Gloster.
Jeep Grand Cherokee
After the Wrangler, Jeep has decided to assemble the all-new Grand Cherokee in the Indian market as well. While there are two models of the Grand Cherokee in the international markets, Jeep will bring the smaller five-seater version to India.
Instead of CBU import, the new Grand Cherokee will arrive as CKD and will be assembled in India that will bring down the retail price. The all-new Grand Cherokee gets a slew of design changes and has become much more luxurious than before. It offers as many as three digital screens at the front with a dedicated screen for the co-driver. The SUV is expected to feature the 3.6-litre V6 petrol. Jeep may also offer the 4xe plug-in hybrid in the Indian market as well.
