Tata Motors’ Electric Mobility arm is all set to launch an updated EV in India. The Tigor EV has been on sale for the past few years but the company now wants to create a clear demarcation between the commercial model and the one they want to push to private users. Infact, the older model was recently renamed from Tigor EV to ’Expres-T’ and is clearly being push for cab / commercial usage.

The Tigor EV brand name hence will now be reserved for the new model. A teaser video was recently taken online which showcases the Nexon EV welcoming the 2021 Tigor EV into the market. That said, the company is tight lipped on the specifications and features that the updated model will carry. Its safe to assume the Tigor EV will look better than the Expres-T and might end up coming with a certified range of over 250km.

Tata Motors’ electric division has been burning the mid-night oil to bring a more affordable option the mass market. Speculated to carry a price tag of about Rs 12 lakh, the 2021 Tigor EV will be the most sensible purchase in the electric car market. It offers ample space for 5, a large boot and is small enough for tight urban roads. The regular Tigor range starts at Rs 5.6 lakh (ex-showroom) and is offered with a 1.2-litre petrol engine.

The current Expres-T offers a range of as much as 213km with a larger 21.5 kWh pack. The Tigor EV will get a bigger set-up to ensure a 250+ km range. Top speed will be limited (like the Nexon EV) but 0-60 sprint should be quicker than all other compact sedans in the market. It will support fast charging and the company will be offering a warranty of 8 years on the battery pack. Tata Power has already established a good network of charging stations in larger cities and this will only grow further in the coming months.

Come back on the 18th August to know the official pricing, trim levels and the feature list.
