2021 Ford Ecosport facelift : this is it

The updated compact SUV breaks cover for the first time. Launch soon?

Among the first couple of sub 4 meter compact SUVs in the country, the Ecosport faces tough competition from half a dozen rivals. Sales have been declining but the updated model promises to deliver more

The updated 2021 Ecosport has been on test for several months but fresh images of the entire vehicle without camouflage have now appeared online on team-bhp.com. As seen, design tweaks are subtle and two different colours have been spotted. These seem to be the top-end trims. Up front, as we have shown in the picture here, the grille is all new and seems more aggressive as compared to the current model on sale. The grille also gets a chrome border, something that was present earlier as well but looks better now. The 2021 Ecosport gets a revised lower part of the bumper that now houses new L shaped DRLs (day time running lights) and a different design for the fog lamps.

At the back, the only difference we can make out is the LED treatment for the tail lamps. The updated EcoSport will also get a new set of alloy wheels and depending on the trim you pick, the size might vary between 16 and 17 inch ones. What remains to be seen are the changes done on the inside. Rivals now offer far more features and this is one of the reasons why prospective customers tend to shy away from Ford showrooms. Also, while the front seats offer good comfort levels, the rear bench isn’s as spacious as most of its other rivals in the same price band.

The updated Ford Ecosport will continue to be offered with a choice of two engine options. These include a 1.5 petrol and a 1.5 turbo diesel. The former is sold with both manual and automatic transmission options. Among the two, my pick is the diesel for its low NVH levels, punchy mid-range and efficient nature. The current line up starts from Rs 8.2 lakh (ex-showroom) and even the entry level Ambiente version is reasonably loaded with features. The updated model is expected to carry the same sticker price as well and launch will take place in the next couple of days. Stay tuned for more updates...
