2018 Nissan Micra; All You Want to Know
The next generation Nissan Micra takes design cue Nissan Sway concept from 2015 Geneva Motor Show
Nissan Micra is no more the little cute car the Japanese automaker launched few years ago. The next generation Nissan Micra will come as an aggressive and mean looking hatchback. The upcoming new Micra test mule has been spotted testing several times.
Compare to the outgoing model the next generation Micra looks radically different. It is aggressive, bold and quite upmarket. Inspired by the Nissan Sway concept which was showcased at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, the new Micra has been designed to meet the demand of the urban customers.
Here we will give a quick look on the facts of new Nissan Micra.
INSPIRED BY NISSAN SWAY CONCEPT
Nissan showcased the Sway concept at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The concept gave us the preview of the new generation Micra. And very interestingly when we spotted the new generation Micra test mule for the first time, we knew that new gen Micra has been designed following the Nissan Sway concept. The front grille, the headlamps, the front bumper, the hood, side profile – everything looks similar to the Sway concept.
MUCH MORE APPEALING THAN OUTGOING MODEL
The new generation Nissan Micra features an aggressive appearance, which is radically different than the outgoing model. The outgoing model looks kid to the next generation model. It features a layered front grille with V motion design, sharp and sleek swept back headlamp clusters, LED daytime running lights, sleek creases running toward the nose. The front bumper also looks bold than the outgoing Micra. The fog lamps come sitting between the black accented area. The side profile gets new design alloy wheels with bold sporty design, floating character lines. The roof and the rear passenger door handle has been changed completely. The swooping roofline gets a floating pattern with the thick C pillar completely blackened. The rear passenger door handles sit at the C pillar, just like the Chevrolet Beat and the new Maruti-Suzuki Swift. The rear sports a sharp roof spoiler with stop lamp mounted on it.
INDIA SPEC NEW MICRA WILL GET TWEAKED V PLATFORM
The new generation Nissan Micra will come based on the CMF-B platform which has been jointly developed by Nissan and Renault. But the India spec new Micra will be based on the same V platform, which houses the present generation model. The V platform of the new generation Nissan Micra will get a tweaked appearance though. This revised platform would come lightweight leading the new model to become fuel efficient and easy handling.
EXPECT AN UPMARKET INTERIOR
Expect the new generation Nissan Micra to come featuring an upmarket interior. It would be stylish compare to the outgoing model. Expect the cabin to come featuring new multifunction steering wheel, dual analog dials along with a TFT display at the instrument cluster. A touchscreen infotainment system would shine at the centre console. Also, expect the dual tone interior of the car to come offering plenty of space inside the cabin. The sloping roof might reduce the headroom for rear occupant though.
LIKELY TO RETAIN THE SAME POWERTRAIN
The powertrain of the global model would get 0.9 litre TCe turbocharged petrol engine. Transmission options are likely to include both manual and automatic gearboxes. The India spec Nissan Micra presently gets power from a 1.2 litre DOHC petrol unit paired with a 5 speed manual transmission generating 76 PS of peak power. The diesel variant gets a 1.5 litre SOHC unit under the hood mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox kicking out 64 PS of peak power. The upcoming new generation Nissan Micra is very likely to retain the same powertrain in India. We can hope for updated power output.
