Ahead of its launch on August 1st, the next generation Toyota Fortuner has been spotted without disguise in Thailand. The Toyota Fortnuer is a SUV based on the company’s Hilux pickup truck and was launched in India in 2009 and is assembled at Toyota’s plant in Bidadi, Karnataka , from CKD kits. The SUV went on to become the most popular and best selling vehicle in the segment.

Four years after receiving a facelift, it is time for the next generation SUV to be revealed. The car continues to be based on the Hilux pickup truck. Both the cars are based on Toyota’s International Multi-purpose Vehicle (IMV) which is also seen on the Innova.

The new Fortuner will get a redesigned exterior which makes the SUV look modern. The side profile ensures that the car retains its rugged outlook. Just like the exterior, the SUV also features a new black and brown interior and a new dashboard. This is a huge step up from the current SUV’s boring design.

The SUV is expected to be powered by a range of petrol and diesel engines. India might get only the diesel engine. The engine options which includes a 2.4 litre diesel producing 160 HP and a 2.8 litre diesel producing 177 HP. In capacity, these two engines are slightly smaller than the current SUV’s engine options.

The next generation Toyota Fortuner is expected to be launched in India during the 2016 Auto Expo. The Fortuner will compete against the Ford Endeavour and the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
