2016 New Delhi Auto Expo: Sports and performance cars to watch
Sports cars in India, not a very common sight indeed. Love for sports cars in India, very much common. Many of us in our childhood used to collect die cast car models, among which sports cars used to get a special place. Not only that, we have spent tons of hours in front of our computer screens playing car games. Now, as grownups we don’t play with virtual cars, but real ones!
Indian customers were never known as very much open to the expensive sports cars or performance oriented models, largely due to the higher price and non availability of the cars in the country. But, as India stepped into the global village concept, the automotive scenario in the country has changed drastically. Now a days, Indian buyers are more open towards sports cars, performance oriented expensive cars. The automakers are bringing new global models. Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghinis are not something we can only watch and admire in internet, but we can see them speeding around our localities.
In a few days 2016 edition of the Indian Auto Expo is about to begin. Several automakers will unveil and showcase their models at the event. Audi is a very popular luxury brand in India. They will showcase the second generation R8 at the upcoming 2016 Indian Auto Expo. The new generation Audi R8 looks absolutely sleek and stylish. The stylish sports car is considered as one of the favourite sports model in India. This car boasts laser headlamps, LED daytime running lamps, and sleek aerodynamic design at exterior which is based on a lightweight chassis. Inside the cabin Audi has used nappa leather and alcantara upholstery, and the front panel looks cool with the multifunction steering wheel, digital driver information panel etc. The second generation Audi R8 gets power from two differently tuned powertrain options. The base variant gets power from a 5.2 litre V10 engine which delivers 540 hp peak power and 540 Nm peak torque. This car can reach 0-100 kmph in just 3.5 seconds. On the other hand, the top variant gets power from a differently tuned V10 and produces 610 hp peak power and 560 Nm peak torque. This variant can reach 0-100 kmph in 3.2 seconds.

Ford Mustang is one of the iconic cars of all time in the world automotive history. First introduced in 1964 Mustang has received immense popularity all over the world. Presently at its sixth generation Mustang never made it to India although, but in a few days Ford is going to launch the all new Mustang in India, and we have learnt that the American automaker would showcase the Mustang at the upcoming 2016 Auto Expo. The new Mustang comes with a stunning appearance, which is powerful and bold. Sixth generation Mustang gets power from three different powertrains. The base variant gets power from a 3.7 litre V6 engine which delivers 300 hp peak power and 366 Nm peak torque. There is a 2.3 litre I4 turbocharged Ecoboost petrol engine as well, which churns out 305 hp peak power and 406 Nm peak torque. The GT variant is powered by a 5.0 litre V8 engine under the hood, which is capable to kick out 420 hp peak power and 528 Nm peak torque.

HONDA JAZZ RS
Honda is pretty popular in our country. In 2015 Honda launched the next generation Jazz luxury hatchback which was pretty stylish indeed and now the Japanese automaker is all set to launch a performance oriented variant of the Jazz, which will be christened as Honda Jazz RS. This car will get some styling jobs at exterior and inside the cabin as well to make it a sporty looking premium hatchback. Although Honda hasn’t revealed anything about the car, but the Jazz RS would come sporting a 1.5 litre SOHC 16 valve i-VTEC engine, which is available in Indonesia. The car gets 5 speed manual transmission and a CVT as well. The manual variant delivers 118 hp peak power at 6600 rpm while the peak torque amount stands at 145 Nm at 4800 rpm. We have heard that this car would be sold in India in a diesel variant.

In the Formula-1 circuit McLaren is the next big name after the Ferrari. The British company had a terrific success and performance record with Honda. In 2015 season they reconciled their old relationship to get power from a Honda engine for the McLaren MP4-30. Honda will showcase the Formula-1 racing car at the upcoming Indian Auto Expo in February. No wonder, how many cars get showcased at the event, this Formula-1 car will become the showstopper. This car uses Honda’s first Formula-1 engine since 2005. It gets power from RA615H hybrid powertrain, which includes a 1.6 litre 6 cylinder direct injection engine and a lithium ion battery. The rpm is restricted to 15000, which is 3000 rpm less than the 18000 rpm limit from 2009-2013 period. The 1.6 litre internal combustion engine is supposed to deliver 600 hp peak power while the battery generates 160 hp more.

Sports cars always known for their sheer power underneath the stylish and sleekly designed exterior. Nissan GT-R is one such sports car, which is known for its brutal power instead of the beauty. The car is quite stylish no doubt, but aesthetically it is not as beautiful as other sports cars are. The massive power under its hood is the USP for this car. The Japanese automaker will showcase the next GT-R at the upcoming Auto Expo. It gets power from a 3.8 litre twin turbocharged V6 engine mated to a 6 speed dual clutch transmission under the hood, which is capable to churn out 545 hp peak power and massive 627 Nm peak torque. This car can reach 0-100 kmph in just 2.7 seconds.

Volkswagen Polo is one of the most popular premium hatchbacks in India. A compact sporty look, stylish design, premium feature packed interior, good performance – altogether this car have everything to impress the buyers. At the upcoming 2016 Auto Expo Volkswagen will unveil the performance oriented Polo GTI, which can be called a junior version of Volkswagen Golf GTI. The sporty compact hatchback gets power from a 1.8 litre BlueMotion 4 cylinder inline turbocharged direct injection petrol engine mated to 6 speed manual or a 7 speed DSG transmission under the hood. This powertrain delivers 189 hp peak power, while the peak torque amount stands at 320 Nm for in the manual variant and 250 Nm in the automatic variant. This car can reach 0-100 kmph in 6.7 seconds. The fuel economy stands at 16.39 kmpl for the manual variant and 17.54 kmpl for the automatic one.
