BMW showcased a brand new concept car at the 2016 Paris Motor show and it definitely attracted lot of attention. This concept is their newest addition to the compact car segment, called the Concept X2 this car’s unique design and Urban Sporting appeal is what sets it apart from the rest.
BMW is pitching this vehicle for those people who try to find both funs as well practicality in a vehicle. The X2 seem to blend fast moving body language as well as well as low slung coupe proportions under one structure. While the concept also has enough robust features and designs to be called a member of BMW’s ‘X’ family of vehicles.
According to the reports BMW has plans to launch the production variant of the Concept X2 In Europe towards the second quarter of 2018 or early 2019. Although no details of the drivetrains are available as of yet but it will most probably share the engines with the X1 Crossover.

The unique feature about the Concept is its proportions; the concept sports a two box design which also highlights its X model character. The long wheelbase, stretched roofline, short overhang and forward slanting C pillar helps in giving the Crossover low to the road feel according to BMW.
Towards the front the X2 concept gets the same kidney shaped grilles, and unlike other BMW cars the grilles actually widens from top to bottom. While the heavily angled bars inside the kidney grille helps creating “shark nose” effect. The redesigned headlamps now look more hexagonal in shape. The headlamps in particular get the laser light technology. Towards the front apron the concept X2 gets a huge central intake, while there are also smaller triangular air intakes on either side of the car which helps in highlighting the car’s broader stance. The rest of the details of the front end helps highlight the cars ‘X’ characteristics.
Towards the side profile the X2 gets an elongated roofline while the slim window graphic line gives the Crossover a stretched feel. The glasshouse tapers towards the rear profile. Further down towards the side profile the concept car gets muscular surfaces, large wheel arches and stylistic underfloor protection around the door sills. The concept sits on huge 21 inch alloy wheels. This wheels in particular gets double spoke bi-colour design features which adds a three dimensional effect. Some of the unique additions to the car include a new BMW logo positioned on the C Pillar. While the side profile of this Crossover also takes some of its inspiration from the Classic BMW cars.
Towards the rear profile the Crossover gets an air channelling spoiler and just underneath the spoiler the concept car you will find the rear window. The rear taillamps has been shaped in the in the form of ‘L’ and holds the LED elements which comes in the form of three dimensional structure. The BMW logo is also positioned in between both the taillamps. The rear apron of the car has been finished in body colour, the tail pipes are positioned on either side of the Crossover helps maintining the car’s broad stance.
Although no image of the interior are available as of yet but expect this car to carry some of its styling inspiration from some of the bigger X family vehicles. BMW definitely will also throw some modern features as well to make this Crossover unique.
No details of the drivetrain of this BMW concept X2 is available at this moment but the reports suggests that the production variant of this concept might get the 1.5 Litre, three cylinder motor while the top end variants will receive the more powerful 2.0 Litre, four cylinder unit which will also feature BMW’s twin turbo technology.
Expect the engines to be paired to both a manual gearbox as well as automatic transmission which will send power to the front wheels. However there will also be a four wheel drive variant on offer as well.
The new Concept will most probably be based on the UKL platform and will compete with some other Crossovers from the different auto manufacturers. This will be positioned above the X1.
