More powerful, technologically advanced and fuel efficient 5 series has just arrived
BMW took the covers off the all new seventh generation 5 series recently and this all new sedan promises to have all the tools to make this another success story.
The new sedan according to BMW will help them set a new benchmark in the large vehicles class, the new sedan will not only lead the position in terms of technology but also will have huge emotional appeal as well. The new 5 series also packs couple of new technologies as well all inspired from the bigger 7 series. While it is also built on the same CLAR – Cluster Architecture platform, this new platform, this new sedan also uses lightweight metals in its construction which has helped it loose some significant amount of weight.
Apart from being more aerodynamic, technologically advanced the new 5 Series also packs quite a punch from its more powerful petrol and diesel engines. The new and improved sedan gets powerful four cylinder and even 6 cylinder engines under its hood which are paired to eight speed-speed Steptronic transmission.

The first thing which will catch your attention is the fact that the new 5 series borrows most of its design cues from the new BMW design language and also from the bigger flasgship 7 series sedan. What is even more interesting is also the fact that the 5 series is actually also longer, wider and taller than its predecessor.
If we talk about other aspects of styling the 5 series sedan now shares the same front face with the updated BMW range of cars. The new face now features bigger and slightly wider front grille. While the headlamp units too looks flatter and slightly more aggressive, the headlamp units in particular gets adaptive LED lamps with BMW selective beams.
The side profile of the car now looks even more pronounced and looks like a miniature version of the 7 series sedan. Just like the 7 series the 5 series too has that character line on top of the side skirts area. The newly designed wheel too looks good on the new car. Towards the rear the new 5 series gets mild updates as well which includes new duel tail pipes and also updated taillamp units as well.
The new 5 series also gets sports design package as standard. This package gets includes new aero kit and performance upgrades. The sports package will also include larger wheels and tyres as well along with a tweaked suspension setup.
Just like the exterior the interior too borrows its styling heavily from the bigger 7 series sedan as well. The sedan is also longer and more spacious and as a result the rear passengers can enjoy an extra amount of knee and leg room. The front passengers get sports seats as standard which can be adjusted in 16 different ways. BMW also offers 20 ways adjustable seats as well s an option which can be also equipped with an optional additional massage function.
We are also happy to inform you that the new 5 Series not only has borrowed only the styling from the bigger 7 series but also some of its technological features as well. The sedan has now gets a bigger heads up display whose size now has been increased by 70 percent. The sedan also features BMW’s latest generation i drive system as well. The new infotainment system displays navigation, telephone and entertainment features, plus vehicle functions, on a high-resolution 10.25-inch screen. The entire system can be operated with the help of iDrive Controller, by voice command or gestures and even by touching the display controls directly. For the comfort of the passengers inside the interior gets four-zone climate control complete with ionisation and discreet air fragrancing. The entire cabin is also quiter than before all the thanks goes to the acoustic glazing for the windscreen and the acoustic headliner.
Just like the bigger 7 series the 5 series too now gets the optional Remote Parking system which allows the person manouver their car in the tightest parking spaces by just using the car key. The car remains connected with the rest of the world via the help of Apple CarPlay, and WiFi hotspot.
As already mentioned above the all new 5 series gets both diesel and petrol drivetrain options under its hood. These new engines belong to modular BMW Efficient Dynamics family of power units. While BMW’s twin turbo technology makes sure that all the engines gets outstanding performance and also combines exceptional efficiency as well. BMW has even offered two diesel and petrol engine with BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system as well.
There is a new two liter four cylinder petrol engine on offer which promises to offer 252 Hp of peak power and 350 Nm of peak torque. This engine helps the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h mark in 6.2 seconds while it has a top speed of 250 km/h mark. The flagship 540 i variant will get three liter straight six unit which produces about 350 Hp of peak power and and an impressive 450 Nm of torque. The engine helps the sedan to sprint from 0-100 km/h mark in just 4.8 seconds.
The four cylinder diesel engine powering the 520d variant produces about 190 Hp of peak power and 400 Nm of peak torque. While powering the 530d variant is a new six cylinder unit which is capable of producing about 265 Hp and 620 Nm of torque.
BMW has not offered any manual variant with the new 5 series this time and thus it gets the same eight speed steptronic transmission.
There is no denying the fact the new 5 series is one of the safest car of its class. BMW has loaded the new sedan with advanced technology which includes plenty of airbags for the front and rear passengers. Furthermore to assist the driver the new 5 series gets an optional Active Cruise Control (ACC) system and Steering and Lane keeping assistant. The other safety features includes steering and lane control assist, crossing traffic warning, crossroad warning, wrong way warning. Etc.

When it comes to luxury sedan market there is no denying the fact that the new generation E Class surely impresses us with its premium interiors the new generation E-Class is available with the choices of two engine options which includes the E200 which gets a four cylinder petrol engine, this 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine produces about 184 Hp of peak power and 300 Nm of torque. This engine is capable of sprinting from 0-100km/h mark in just 7.7 seconds. On the other hand the E220d will be available with an all new 2.0 Litre turbocharged four-cylinder diesel engine which will be capable of producing about 195 Hp of peak power and 400 Nm of torque. This engine helps the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h mark on 7.2 seconds. The above engines are paired to new 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic transmission as standard.
The new 5 series sedan definitely hasn’t changed a lot in terms of overall styling what BMW did instead is that they have actually moulded the 5 series with their modern design language and styling which the other BMW cars too adopted as well.
