Perhaps this is the reason why; Mini has been able to add this prestigious award in its kitty.
Since this year Spring, Mini has played it safe by maintaining a safe position in the market through its classic proportions, the typical three-way structure of its body, all-round greenhouse and roof, and a modern interpretation of hallmark brand design features. These were of course more than enough to win the hearts of the people and thus the readers of Stuttgart, the automobile magazine have voted it as the ‘best looking car of 2014’. Mini scored the first position among the ‘minicars’ segment competing with seven other cars from different manufacturers belonging to its class.
The folks over at Mini are overwhelmed after they received such a prestigious title. Anders Warming, Head of MINI Design said, “We at MINI Design are particularly proud to have won this award. Positive feedback from customers and fans is very encouraging to us in our day-to-day design work for the MINI brand; we very much look forward to pursuing this work further.”

The "World Car of the Year 2014" was announced at the ongoing New York International Auto show. This year’s contenders for the coveted prize included the first ever BMW 4 Series, Mazda3 and the Audi A3 sedan.
It was a tight battle between the two Germans, but in the end the Audi A3 took the top honors to be named the "World Car of the Year 2014". So, what is so special about the A3 that made the judges vote for it?
First of all, the A3 sedan will be launched in India later this year which means we can discuss about it. The A3 sedan is based on Volkswagen’s MQB architecture and is the cheapest product from the German giant; it features front-wheel drive and won’t use ’Quattro’ which is so synonymous with Audis. Under the bonnet, goes a 1.8-liter turbocharged petrol and 2.0-liter diesel so, a no surprises there. The interior is typically Audi with premium materials laid end to end to make up a plush cabin. I still cannot point out what makes this Audi so special that it won the votes of the judges.
Anyway, the 2014, World Performance Car of the Year was awarded to the Porsche 911 GT3 and its quite surprising to know that the judges weren’t pleased with the new Corvette Stingray or Ferrari Speciale. The Mercedes-Benz S-Class was named the World Luxury Car of the Year, while the BMW i3 took home two awards with it.
