There is no denying the fact that Virat Kohli is the hot favourite amongst the Indian Cricket fans right now. Be it his performance, his batting or his attitude both inside and outside the field, people are crazy about him and loves him for who he is.

Virat is also the brand Ambassador of Audi in India, and right now no other person could replace him. He already owns a couple of cars including the Audi R8 LMX Limited Edition, Audi R8 V10, Audi A8L W12 Quattro, Audi S6 and Audi Q7 4.2 TDi but recently he has decided to gift himself a new Q7.

The new Q7 that Virat bought is priced at around INR 72 Lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The particular SUV which was gifted to Virat gets a 3.0-litre TDI, diesel unit which is capable of producing about 245bhp of peak power and 600Nm of peak torque; the engine is paired to an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox which sends power to all the four wheels via Audi’s Quattro AWD system.

Delhi and NCR is the place where most of the luxury cars can be seen in entire India. Being a diesel loving country the customers based in Delhi and NCR also love to buy diesel based luxury cars. And one more thing is, when it is about cars, we Indians love the SUVs. Now coming to our topic today the luxury SUVs in India has taken a toll recently.

The Delhi government imposed a ban on the 2000 cc and above diesel engine capacitated cars in the national capital region. Due to the large diesel engine no cars carrying 2000 cc and above diesel engines are allowed for registration in Delhi and NCR. Therefore the luxury auto manufacturers present in India has suffered a major sales decline, as this region itself comes with a large customer base for these companies. Three German luxury automaker – Audi, BMW and Mercedes Benz are at the forefront of the affected automakers due to the ban in the region. Among these three auto manufacturers, Mercedes Benz has suffered the biggest blow, as the company is the best sold brand in the region, and a large number of their cars are capacitated with 2000 cc or larger diesel engines.

Here, we will take a close look at the luxury SUVs which have been affected by the diesel ban in Delhi and NCR.

According to a recent report Audi is all set to bring the high performance variant of the their new generation Q7 in India during this year Diwali. Dubbed as the SQ7 the newest entrant will sit on top of the Audi lineup and will also be priced well above the standard Q7 which is already available in our market.

The highlight of the upcoming Audi SQ7 is definitely its new and developed drivetrain. This happens to be the first production car in history which comes fitted with a an electric supercharger (Electric Powered Compressor [EPC] and a 48 Volt subsystem. This system helps the 4.0 Litre V8 TDi unit which is also assisted by three separate chargers out of which one is an electric unit, while the other two are gas turbochargers which are positioned inside the ‘V’ of the engine. All this system helps improve the responsiveness of the engine at lower speeds. The result of all those technology helps the Q7 SUV to sprint from 0-100km/h mark in 4.8 seconds while the top speed is being restricted at 250 kph mark.

The SQ7 VB motor is able to make 435 Hp and an impressive 900 NM of torque. The SQ7 also uses electro-mechanical active roll bars which extracts its power from the 48-volt electrical system.

Audi Q7 is the flagship SUV from the German automaker. The new generation of Audi Q7 is already present in Indian market. Now the German luxury automaker seems to be ready to launch the sporty version of the Q7, known as Audi SQ7 in the country. Recently the German automaker imported a SQ7 from Slovakia to India via Mumbai Airport on 21st April, which indicates that the car has been imported for homologation and it will be launched soon in the country.

Based on the latest generation of Audi Q7the sporty SQ7 gets a 4.0 litre V8 TDI engine equipped with three turbochargers. This engine under the hood which gets mated to an 8 speed Tiptronic transmission which will generate 435 hp of peak power and massive 900 Nm of peak torque. The car gets Audi’s famous Quattro AWD system. This car has capability to reach 0 – 100 kmph in just 4.8 seconds with a top speed of 250 kmph.

Design wise the car looks similar to the standard version of Q7, while the SQ7 badge distinguishes the car from the rest of the lot. Once launched, the Audi SQ7 will compete against the Mercedes Benz GL63 AMG, BMW X6M and Range Rover SVR. In India the car will sport a higher price tag compare to the normal Q7. In that case the Audi SQ7 will sport a price tag around INR. 1 crore.

Chris Evans from Captain America fame got an all new Audi SQ7 to drive in the latest film of the franchise Captain America: Civil War. Not only Audi SQ7, in the film several other Audi cars have been used by the superhero characters.

The Audi Prologue is a concept model which has been showcased in several international auto events. This car was used by Black Panther in the film. The Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr. used an Audi R8, which comes in a new V10 Plus coupe avatar. Alongside these cars several other Audi vehicles were used in the film which include Audi A4 sedan and Audi A7 Sportback.

He also said, “This film showcases futuristic technologies and other powerful resources, including Audi vehicles like the new performance SUV Audi SQ7. These legendary heroes, much like Audi models, demonstrate leadership, high performance and pure fun to fans and moviegoers worldwide.” The movie will release on 28th April, while Audi has been offering an exclusive peek at the duels in the new Audi SQ7.

Audi and BMW both the German automakers have been the top contender of the luxury segment of Indian automobile market. Be it the luxury sedans or SUV, these two auto giants have always been in a bullfight. Audi recently launched the latest generation of their mid size luxury SUV Q7, which has been very popular among the elite people of India since its launch in the country. Since its launch in 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show, Q7 has been a flagship car from the German company. This car is known for its stylish design, luxury on offer, comfortable interior, powerful engine and German technologies.

Originated from the same German engineering, BMW X5 has been another car which can directly take on the Audi Q7. BMW X5 has been in the business since 1999. In India BMW is the most popular luxury brand at present. Along with the growing popularity of SUV and luxury vehicles BMW X5 has become one of the flagship model in the country for the German brand.

Audi has launched the second generation Q7 in India and it is priced at INR. 72 lakhs(ex-showroom, Delhi) for the Q7 45 TDI premium plus variant while the Technology variant has been priced at INR. 77.5 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). The flagship Audi SUV will be brought and sild in the Indian market via the CBU route.

The Audi Q7 is made available in India with a single diesel engine option, the 3.0 Liter TDI V6 Turbo diesel engine is capable of producing about 272 Bhp of peak power and 600 Nm of torque produces in between 1,500 to 3,000 rpm. The engine is paired to an 8 speed tiptronic automatic gearbox which will send power to all the 4 wheels via the Quattro all wheel drive system.

The new generation Q7 is actually slightly smaller as well as lighter by almost 300 Kgs than its successor. The SUV also has received cosmetic upgrades as well which includes a new single piece grille with the Audi logo while the lower front bumper too has been redesigned. The front profile also gets angular headlamps as well which also comes with Matrix LED headlamps while the rear profile gets rectangular LED taillamps and power operated tailgate. The side profile on the other hand does not get any major updates except the new 20 inch alloy wheels.

Inside the new Q7 things look quite simple but it does get Audi’s new infotainment system, full leather seats which also come with electronic adjustment facility. For the comfort of the passengers inside the Q7 has been equipped with four zone climate control system, 19 speaker Bose Audio system, panoramic sunroof, a 36- degree camera. The newest feature that is available with the new SUV is Audi’s ‘Virtual Cockpit’ which is actually an all digital instrument t cluster. The Q7 also gets equipped with Drive select and Air suspension.

The Audi Q7 got awarded with 5 stars by the Euro NCAP for its top level safety features. Audi Q7 came up with safest car tag in its category after going through tests like adult protection in frontal and side impact collisions, pedestrian protection and child safety. Along with this car the Volvo XC90 too got the same 5 star rating.

The testers from Euro NCAP evaluated that during a frontal impact collision Audi Q7’s rear passengers are equally safe like the front passenger and driver. This car also offers plenty of room inside the cabin, and it is pretty much safe for childrens. Six child seats can be installed easily. The model received the ‘Euro NCAP Advanced’ reward for the multi collision brake assist system and for Audi pre sense basic system. Incidentally, the multi collision brake assist system implements the brakes automatically in case of a collision to prevent the car from skidding and minimize the risk of further damage, while the Audi pre sense basic system tensions the seatbelts before any collision, and closes the windows and sunroof also to minimize the damage. This car comes with a system, which can stop the car automatically to avoid a collision while the car is running within 40 kmph speed limit. Otherwise, while the car is running at higher speed, the driver receives warning to reduce speed.

Audi has recently released the first images of the 2016 Audi Q7 Internationally and also announced that the SUV will make its debut or public appearance at the 2014 Detroit Motor Show. But before that here is some good news for the Indian Audi fans, recently overdrive caught the new generation Q7 being tested on Indian roads.

Although the SUV test mule was wrapped under heavy camouflage but anyone could easily identify that this is definitely the new generation Q7. The new Q7 has lost a lot of weight and bulk and now looks much more in shape, the Q7 has been one important product for the German auto manufacturer in India and thus you will be happy to hear that the new Q7 will most probably hit the Indian markets by mid 2015 even before it is launched in some other International markets.

Like we said before the Q7 test mule that is being tested on Indian roads are covered in heavy camouflage but from the spy shots it is quite clear the Q7 will be getting newly designed headlamps units which also gets Matrix LED treatment inside, while towards the rear you can notice those sharper and stylish LED tail lamps. The spy images also reveal some parts of the interior and which shows that the Q7 interiors has been reworked completely, the dashboard gets a pop up display which also gets the next generation MMI interface which comes with improved graphics and easy accessible features.

Some would argue that 1000Nm of torque on an SUV makes it equivalent to a sportscar. There is undeniable reason to this and theAudi Q7 V12 is the emperor of excess. Currently it is the 4.2-litre TDI producing 340PS and 760Nm of torque that is the flagship model of the Q7 but Audi by the end of the year plans to launch a 6-litre, V12 variant of the Q7. Such presence this model will command that it would make even the Range Rover seem petite. When launched, the V12 would cost around 1crore and this car is so far over the top that it’s perfect for those looking for some guilty pleasure. With menace in looks and intent in its eyes, this SUV is some product.

Audi has confirmed that it would be launching the Q7 with a V12 diesel engine in India. The SUV with the V12 engine would be launched later in the year and would be priced around 1 crore. The 6-litre, V12 TDI, produces 500PS and an insane 1000Nm of torque between 1750 to 3250rpm. Audi claims that the crankcase is made of a secret material which allows it to be strong, light and compact. The crankshaft is made of chromium molybdenum steel and the pistons are made from aluminium. The manufacturer claims100kmph to be reached in 5.5seconds with an electronically limited top speed of 250kmph.

To make this V12 variant special Audi has added bits like the alcantara and brushed aluminium trimmings and you can order the Q7 with a fully leather-wrapped cabin. There is also an option of ordering the rear loading bay with wood like deck of a yacht.

Audi has also stiffened the suspension and the Audi Q7 V12 TDI features ceramic brakes, which are extremely sensitive to dust. Using these brakes in India would be a bit of a problem and Audi engineers would have to sort this out since these brakes are standard on the V12 variant. Fuel efficiency also isn’t bad and the manufacturer claims 8kmpl. The V12 TDI would be a CBU and the launch would not be before the second half of the year.

Audi will be setting up a new assembly line at their plant in Aurangabad, Maharashtra for its Q3 and Q7 sports utility vehicles. The new assemble line will start by the end of 2012, raising Audi’s capacity to 8000 units a year. Speaking to journalists, Micheal Perschke, head, Audi India said "Q3 will be our bread and butter and the key product which will drive our growth in 2012." "We will bring in one game changing model every year for the next few years."

We don’t have the exact figures to back our claim but there is no arguing the fact that over 90 percent of all Audi Q7 owners in India have never taken this SUV even for mild off road challenges. To many that would be killing the whole purpose of having a SUV in the first place. Driving it from work to office and then to an up market restaurant for dinner isn’t what Audi had designed the Q7 for. Or did it? The SUV’s we drive have become softer by the passing year as our requirements from our vehicles change. While more and more of us are confined to urban surroundings, we don’t need a SUV capable of driving us up to the ‘Road of bones’ in Siberia. SUV’s today have dynamically evolved offering comfort and space as oppose to their original ‘go-any-where’ ability. The Audi Q7 then is every bit the SUV that we require today.
