OVERVIEW 2012 Audi SQ5

2012 Audi SQ5

Excess is a very relative word. What is excess for one could be deficit for another. It is as simple as that. But excess is what automobile enthusiasts like. Audi has launched the Q7 with a V12 which makes it accelerate like a sportscar and the manufacturer has now launched its first S version on a SUV. The Audi SQ5 uses a twin-turbocharged 3-litre V6 TDI with dynamically retuned suspension and with all these alterations Audi plans to change the ‘practical’ and ‘simple’ image associated with the Q5. Though it is highly unlikely that the SQ5 will be launched in India, it is a car which does depict the manufacturer’s vision and direction. Audi has made no bones about the fact that it is determined to become the leading luxury car manufacturer globally and to achieve that it is being aggressive with both its marketing and product planning.

While the Q5 isn’t known for it’s off road abilities, it does provide utility along with dynamic ability. More and more Indian’s today prefer soft roaders like the Q5 and traditional SUV’s like the Mitsubishi Montero and theLand Rover Freelander 2 are going increasingly out of fashion. Prices for the Q5 currently start from Rs 35.13lakhs and go up to Rs 47.03lakhs ex-showroom New Delhi and it’s not known yet by how much Audi will increase the prices of the 2013 Q5 when it comes into India.

2013 Audi Q5 caught testing

2013 Audi Q5 caught testing

A facelifted version of the Audi Q5 has been spied testing and the new Q5 is expected to be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show. The Q5 was launched in India in 2009 and we expect the latest generation Q5 to be launched in 2013. Audi is tweaking its five-door SUV and changes to the Q5 include a new large single-frame six-corner front grille, Audi’s ‘boomerang’ LED daytime running lights design and a new front and rear bumper. The Q5 is also expected to have an extended wheelbase and wider front and rear tracks.

Minor modifications have also been done to the interior and to the driving dynamics. No major changes are expected to be made to the engine and for the Indian market the Q5 would retain the 2-litre, four cylinder diesel engine producing 170PS@ 4200rpm and 350Nm of torque between 1750 to 2500rpm. There is also a 2-litre direct injection TSI engine that produces 208PS@4300rpm with 350Nm of torque @1500rpm. Then there is also the 3-litre V6 diesel which makes 239PS.

OVERVIEW 2011 Audi Q5

2011 Audi Q5

The Audi Q5 is the volume generator for the manufacturer and its rationality lies in the law of supply and demand. More and more people are moving away from traditional SUV’s and would rather want the utility of a SUV but in a more compact package. The Q5 is aimed to fill this demand and is not a serious off-road tool. Launched in India in 2009, so far the Audi Q5 has had a pretty decent run. Audi last year launched the Q5 with a smaller 2-litre diesel engine and reduced the prices of its utility vehicle. Prices for the 2-litre TDI now start from Rs 35.13lakhs and go up to Rs 47.03lakhs.

OVERVIEW 2009 Audi Q5

2009 Audi Q5

It’s a European invasion of another kind this time around. Manufacturers, particularly the Germans are pulling all strings and are after our mullah. If the Q7 is too big for you then you have the smaller more compact Q5 and if that’s not to your taste and you can have a look at the soon to be launched Q3. This horse for courses strategy is really working well with luxury automobile buyer in India as more and more people are aspiring today to buy these super expensive cars. The Audi Q5 is the smaller brother of the Q7 and it is built on the new Audi MLP platform (Modular Longitudinal Platform) which was also used for the A5 coupe.
