Audi to launch Q3 with petrol engine in October 2012

Audi has launched its Q3 baby SUV in India but the Q3 to begin with will only come with a 2-litre TDI diesel engine. The manufacturer is planning to launch a 2-litre TFSI petrol engine producing 215PS by October of 2012. The diesel engine comes with a dual clutch gearbox and Quattro or 4WD and the petrol engine too would come with a similar gearbox and with AWD. Audi however is also expected to launch a cheaper version of the diesel and petrol engine which would be only front wheel drive and would use a 7 speed manual gearbox.

The manufacturer is pitching the Q3 as a compact SUV which is sporty, efficient and versatile. 2012 Audi Q3 2.0TDI

The question facing the Audi Q3 was quite simple. Would Audi be successful in building a small, cheap SUV with the substance and luxuriousness that typify the Q5 and Q7? And while doing that, the Q3 also needed to practical and also a conventional family option. Audi will be launching the Q3 in India in May and unlike the BMW X1, which is also the Q3’s biggest competitor, Audi will be launching the Q3 with 4WD or Quattro and there will be no petrol engine to start with. With the Q3 Audi aims to deliver the full Audi experience and the Indian-spec model is fully-loaded. The Q3 is aimed at the young and with this baby SUV the manufacturer is aiming to get closer to BMW and then eventually become the number one luxury manufacturer in the country. The Q3 won’t be assembled in India to begin with and fully built units would be brought from Spain. Prices of the Q3 are still not known but we expect it to be around 27-29lakhs.
