After Mercedes-Benz India announced the C-Class "Celebration Edition" that celebrates the C-Class’ successes in the global market, Audi paid close attention and decided to jump in by announcing their "Celebration Edition" of the A4 sedan, a well known sworn rival to Merc’s offering. Kind-of a coincidence, don’t you think?
While the Mercedes-Benz C-Class "Celebration Edition" (that’s a mouthful!) comes packed with cool tech and exclusive bodywork that isn’t available for other variants, the Audi A4 "Celebration Edition" is stripped of most creature comforts that are standard in other variants. It’s actually an entry-level Corporate Edition A4 with even more features ditched in order to keep the price tag low. And they’ve gone through great lengths to keep the A4 as less expensive as possible without compromising on Audi’s standards.
Great lengths, you ask? Well to keep the price tag as small as possible, Audi has ditched features like the sunroof, 17-inch alloy wheels (the Celebration Edition gets 16-inch alloys), cruise control, wood veneer dashboard and power folding wing mirrors and mechanical adjustment for driver and passenger seats. Also the A4 CE will be offered only in a white paint job, which maybe a bummer for some prospective buyers.
Under the hood, the A4 CE will be powered by the familiar 2.0-liter TDI engine that produces 143 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. The diesel motor is mated to a CVT transmission. Sadly, there is no Quattro AWD system offered even as an option.
Priced at Rs 25.99 Lakhs, it is probably the cheapest that Audi can offer for the A4 sedan. Honestly speaking, unless you’re really desperate to own an Audi, you can consider other sedans like the 2013 Skoda Octavia or the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta and enjoy the creature comforts that were stripped from the A4. However, if it’s brand image you’re after, this is the best deal you can get. And hurry. Audi will only make limited units of this edition.
