Audi Publishes Live Photos of 2016 A4 Avant

Last month, Audi revealed the next generation of the 2016 A4. They have now published live pictures of the station wagon variant, the A4 Avant.

The 2016 A4 gets a new exterior and interior along with new engines. The new design of the A4 is more evolutionary, rather than revolutionary. Audi has just modified the design on the previous generation A4. So, overall the car looks fresh but similar to the outgoing model.

Even though there aren’t any major changes to the exterior design, Audi claim a drag coefficient of 0.23. The next generation Audi A4 is based on the MLB platform. Hence the car is longer in the overall length and wheelbase. This has also increased legroom at the rear. Audi claims that the use of lightweight materials has reduced the weight of the A4 by 120 kgs. All these contribute to a 21 percent increase in fuel efficiency.

The equipment list includes optional Matrix LED headlights with Dynamic Turn Signals and LED tail lights. The instrument cluster will now get a 12.3 inch LCD display and the Virtual Cockpit which was seen on the Audi TT.

The new generation engines that the 2016 Audi A4 will get are a four cylinder TFSI petrol, a four cylinder TDI diesel and a 3.0 litre V6 TDI diesel that produces 272 HP. The Audi S4 and the Audi RS4 are still under development. Transmission options will include a 7-speed DSG gearbox or an 8-speed Triptronic gearbox.

After launching the RS6 Avant in India, Audi is planning to release more Avant vehicles in the country. The manufacturer is expected to launch the 2016 A4 in India early next year. They will continue assembling the sedan from CKD kits.

Audi Announces A4 "Celebration Edition"

Audi Announces A4 "Celebration Edition"

After Mercedes-Benz India announced the C-Class "Celebration Edition" that celebrates the C-Class’ successes in the global market, Audi paid close attention and decided to jump in by announcing their "Celebration Edition" of the A4 sedan, a well known sworn rival to Merc’s offering. Kind-of a coincidence, don’t you think?

While the Mercedes-Benz C-Class "Celebration Edition" (that’s a mouthful!) comes packed with cool tech and exclusive bodywork that isn’t available for other variants, the Audi A4 "Celebration Edition" is stripped of most creature comforts that are standard in other variants. It’s actually an entry-level Corporate Edition A4 with even more features ditched in order to keep the price tag low. And they’ve gone through great lengths to keep the A4 as less expensive as possible without compromising on Audi’s standards.

Great lengths, you ask? Well to keep the price tag as small as possible, Audi has ditched features like the sunroof, 17-inch alloy wheels (the Celebration Edition gets 16-inch alloys), cruise control, wood veneer dashboard and power folding wing mirrors and mechanical adjustment for driver and passenger seats. Also the A4 CE will be offered only in a white paint job, which maybe a bummer for some prospective buyers.

Under the hood, the A4 CE will be powered by the familiar 2.0-liter TDI engine that produces 143 bhp and 320 Nm of torque. The diesel motor is mated to a CVT transmission. Sadly, there is no Quattro AWD system offered even as an option.

Priced at Rs 25.99 Lakhs, it is probably the cheapest that Audi can offer for the A4 sedan. Honestly speaking, unless you’re really desperate to own an Audi, you can consider other sedans like the 2013 Skoda Octavia or the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta and enjoy the creature comforts that were stripped from the A4. However, if it’s brand image you’re after, this is the best deal you can get. And hurry. Audi will only make limited units of this edition.

Audi Announces More Powerful Variant of A4

Audi Announces More Powerful Variant of A4

Think the 140-horsepower, 2.0-liter TDI powered Audi A4 isn’t powerful enough? Then Audi’s announcement today will still keep you interested in the A4.

Audi has announced a more powerful variant of the A4 today. No, it’s not the S4 or the RS4. It’s just the standard A4 with a fettled 2.0-liter TDI motor that produces 174-horsepower and 38.7kgm of torque, promising a 0-100kmph time of 7.9 sec, making it slightly more powerful than the A6 fitted with the same motor.

It also comes with Audi’s Drive Select where the driver can choose between Comfort,Auto and Dynamic, to slightly alter the behavior of the car. This involves tightening the suspension, increasing throttle response and gear changes.

"This car packs a powerful punch with its on-road performance which will appeal to both our discerning customers as well as the enthusiast,” said Joe King, Head, Audi India".

Audi looks to extend its network by opening 35 dealerships towards the end of 2013. This should keep the attacks from BMW and Mercedes-Benz at bay for sometime.

Long wheelbase versions of sedans a possibility. Audi looking at the A4L and A6L, BMW and Mercedes considering options too

Audi has already launched the A8L in India and the manufacturer could now follow that up by introducing the A4L and the A6L in India. At the recently concluded Beijing Motor Show the German manufacturer had unveiled the 2012 A4L and the A6L and the stretched versions of Audi’s luxury sedans are primarily made for the Chinese market. Like the Chinese consumers who prefer roomy back seats, the long-wheelbase version of the A4 and the A6 would make perfect sense for India because the prospective India buyer of these luxury sedans also gives more importance to backseat comfort rather than driving dynamics.

The A6L is 5015 mm long, 1874 mm wide and 1455 mm high with a 3012 mm wheelbase as compared to standard A6 which is 4915 mm long, 1874 mm wide, 1455 mm high with a wheelbase of 2912 mm. The A4L is 4763 mm long, 1826 mm wide, 1426 mm high with a wheelbase of 2869 mm as compared to the standard A4 which is 4710 mm long, 1826 mm wide, 1426 mm high with a wheelbase of 2808 mm. Audi sells both the stretched and regular version of their luxury sedans in China and with the Chinese market being much bigger than the Indian market, there is enough room for both these models to coexist. The latest-generation A4L and A6L are made by Sino-German joint venture FAW Volkswagen. In China BMW has also launched stretched versions of the 3 and 5-series and there is a similar long wheelbase version also of the Mercedes Benz E-class.

Passenger comfort is greatly improved in the long wheelbase version of the A6L and the Chinese market has embraced the long wheelbase in recent years. With the Indian luxury car market also growing at a good rate, it is a definitive possibility in the near future that we too get the stretched version of not just the A4 and the A6 but also of BWM and Mercedes models.

Audi has now given the A4 a few upgrades to take on the soon to be launched 2012 BMW 3-series. Mercedes too had made upgrades to theC-class last year. OVERVIEW 2012 Audi A4

2012 Audi A4

Audi was going down. That was the general consensus amongst auto analysts. It seemed that Audi wasn’t serious enough about India and in all honesty their models lacked the zing when compared to Mercedes and BMW. The A4 however was the car that turned it around for Audi and then came the Q7, followed by the A6 and the Q5 too has had success in its segment. As Audi grew in confidence it started to reflect in their products and ambitions. Rightly, they now aim to be at the top of the luxury segment and Indians see value in their cars and engineering. Sales increase every few months and in India we now have started to appreciate German craftsmanship and the Audi driving experience. The Audi A4 is available with 5 engine options and has a starting price of Rs 28,92,477 (ex-showroom New Delhi).
