This is the fastest series-production convertible model from the brand with the four rings

The Audi R8 V10 Plus is a major player of the R8 brand, and they recently rolled out the Spyder variant of the Coupe from the workshop of Audi Sport GmbH. According to their reports, this is the fastest series-production convertible model from the brand ever. Powered by a V10 unit and the Quattro permanent all-wheel drive this Spyder variant is surely a stunner.

This is the same R8 which comes with a soft top and few other modifications to increase the safety of the passengers inside while they are driving with the top open. Powering this beast is the same mid-mounted naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 powerplant which also happens to be Audi’s most powerful series production engine. This unit is capable of producing almost 70 + Bhp more than the standard unit, and luckily for us Indians, Audi decided to introduce the R8 V10 Plus variant only instead of the standard variant. So you also expect The R8 V10 Plus Spyder also to be launched in the Indian market soon.

Just like the Coupe variant the convertible also sports the wide and flat Singleframe grille with its gloss honeycomb mesh. This particular grille also flaunts a chrome-plated frame and the Audi Sport emblem. Just underneath the grille, there is a low-lying carbon spoiler which is also present in the Coupe variant as well. As usual, Audi has provided the V10 Plus Spyder with the Audi laser light in the LED headlight which helps to overcome darkness. The sideblades, sill trim, lid on the convertible top compartment and the fixed rear spoiler are all built out of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) and are highlights of this particular open top model. If someone wants, Audi will also paint the sills and rear spoiler in the colour of the car for free. The other highlights of the rear profile include a large, glossy black trapezoidal exhaust tailpipe which is positioned on the wide open diffuser which too is constructed out of carbon fibre. This diffuser helps the R8 V10 to stick to the road.

The cockpit of the Spyder variant looks identical to that of the Coupe. It gets those bucket seats as standard with the car which are finished in fine Nappa leather with special pigmenting that stops them from heating up in the sun’s rays which will prove handy in Indian weather conditions. The pedals and the footrests are also finished in glossy stainless steel. The Spyder just like the Coupe also gets the multifunctional steering wheel so that the driver does not have to take their hands off the steering wheel. Just behind the steering wheel, there is a large 12.3-inch, fully digital Audi virtual cockpit which provides all the information in a rich high-quality 3D graphics.

The Convertible also gets the same infotainment system – the MMI navigation plus with MMI touch system carried over the Coupe variant. So there is nothing new about this infotainment system. Audi even provides an optional Audi Connect module enables fast internet access via LTE.

electrohydraulic drive takes just 20 seconds to open or close the top

One of the most important features of the V10 Spyder is its classic soft top. The whole thing is made out of fabric while the substructure which supports the fabric is made out of lightweight materials like magnesium and aluminium and weighs just 44 Kilogrammes. An electrohydraulic drive takes just 20 seconds to open or close the top. The soft top can be operated while driving at speeds up to 50 km/h. There is even a rear window which can be opened or closed electrically just in case someone likes a quieter cabin.

Like we already mentioned above the Convertible gets the same mid-mounted naturally aspirated 5.2 FSI V10 engine. This unit like we already referred to above is the most powerful production spec Audi engine ever. This unit is capable of producing about 610 Hp of peak power and 560 Newton meters at 6,500 revolutions per minute. All those power is then sent to the four wheels of the car via the Quattro permanent all-wheel drive system via a seven-speed dual clutch transmission.

Talk about performance figures and this convertible is capable of sprinting from 0—100 km/h mark in just 3.3 seconds and can reach a top speed of 328 kph.

The reason this Convertible is lighter because of the multi material Audi Space Frame which is made out of aluminium components with components made of structurally integrated carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP). The car weighs only about 1,695 kilogrammes , and a has a dry weight of just 1,587 kilogrammes.

The Prices for the Audi R8 V10 Spyder Plus begin from €207,500 which is about €17,000 more than the standard V8 Spyder.

Audi is also offering an optional micrommata green design package as well which paints the exterior body in a distinctive green while the interior is finished completely in black.

The biggest competitor of the R8 V10 Spyder is the Huracan Spyder. Like the former, this Italian supercar also uses the 5.2 Liter V10 engine which is capable of producing about 610 Hp of peak power and 560 Nm of torque. This Spyder variant can sprint from 0-100 km/h mark in 3.4 seconds while it has a top speed of 324 km/h mark.

The Audi R8 V10 Spyder will be built at the carmaker’s Böllinger Höfe production facility in Germany. Expect this car to land in the Indian market soon and will be priced at a premium over the V10 Plus Coupe variant.
