A pre-production test mule of the upcoming 2018 Hyundai Elite i20 facelift was recently spotted caught being tested in India. The test mule was covered in heavy camouflage but what caught everyone’s attention was the new set of fancy alloy wheels. The design of the new alloy wheels looked identical to that of the Mercedes CLA Sport’s 17-inch 5-spoke unit.
The test mule was covered in heavy camouflage, but the facelift i20 apparently will continue with the same fluidic design language of the current generation hatchback. The premium hatchback will continue with the same hexagonal shaped grille towards the front with chrome slats. However, we do feel that the facelift variants front bumper will be tweaked while it will most probably also gets a redesigned headlamps as well. We will be happy if Hyundai launches the facelift variant of the hatchback equipped with a fancy set of alloy wheels. Towards the rear expect the hatchback also to get a redesigned rear bumper and taillamps. Although the test mule was covered and the interiors were not visible expect it to get an updated seat upholstery and a multi-information display in between the twin instrument cluster pods and a new touchscreen infotainment system as standard across all its variants.

Under the hood, the facelift variant will likely continue with the same drivetrain options. The petrol variant will proceed with the 1.2-litre and 1.4-litre petrol motors which are paired to a 5-speed manual transmission while there is also an optional 4-speed automatic transmission available as well along with the petrol variant. The diesel variant, on the other hand, gets the 1.4-litre CRDi unit which is capable of producing about 89 Bhp of peak power and 200 Nm of torque and is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. Hyundai could also introduce a powerful 1.0 Litre Turbo petrol unit as well with the facelift variant.
Expect Hyundai to launch the facelift variant of their popular i20 hatchback sometimes towards early next year.
