Mercedes has taken the covers off the new E63 AMG and this definitely is the most powerful E Class ever built. According to Mercedes they have taken their most intelligent executive saloon and turned it into the most powerful E Class of all time. Another interesting fact is also that Mercedes has actually expanded their E Class range by introducing not one but two high performance variants available in the form of the E63 AMG and the E63 S AMG. Both these AMG variants will be showcased at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto show.

Both these high performance sedans packs the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine which is capable of producing an impressive amount of power and torque. While the engine is paired to 9-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT sports transmission which sends all those power to the wheels. These high performance sedans also get the completely new AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system.

Take a look at the new performance sedan and its all praises, the sedan gets the typical signature AMG styling towards the front. The A shaped front bumper. The new radiator grille with twin louver finished in silver chrome and the AMG badge on it definitely looks interesting. For the first time the bonnet inset is also between the wings and the bumper. The front profile looks wider now and has been inspired from a jet wing. The two separate louvers in the outer cooling air intake targets the wing profile which directs air to the wheel arch coolers.

Towards the side profile the sedan gets bigger and 17 mm wider wheels. The wheel arches too are also wider to accommodate bigger and larger wheels on the front track. The sedan also gets an arrow shaped wing signet finished in silver chrome, this also holds the “V8 BITURBO 4MATIC+” lettering as well. While the inserts in silver chrome helps differentiate the S-Model. The new 5 spoke light-alloy wheels, painted matt titanium grey with a high-sheen finish definitely looks good. There is also a 20 inch cross-spoke forged wheel as well which is available as an option.

The rear profile of the sedan too looks muscular just like the front profile. The spoiler has been finished in body colour and is positioned on the boot lid. The rear apron with diffuser look insert and the bright chrome plated twin tailpipe definitely adds a sporty feel. The sports exhaust pipes too look fabulous on the rear apron. The more powerful E63 S on the other hand features a trim strip in silver chrome.



The first thing which will definitely catch everyone’s attention is that the interior gets a performance flat bottomed sports steering wheel which has been finished in black leather. Just behind the steering wheel one will find the touch control and electro plated shift controls.

The new and improved sports seats also get a better and improved lateral support. The seat upholstery has been finished in Black nappa leather, while there are also options of DINAMICA microfibre, nut brown nappa leather or macchiato nappa leather. The door’s central panel in particular matches the seat design. While the Trapezium grain aluminium trim leemnts highlights the sporty side.

The interior further also gets the AMG specific instrument cluster, the dials have been finished in chequered flag look. The multifunctional display unit gets two monitors is actually available as standard on the E63 S variant and as an option with the E63.

The customers can also choose from various optional packages for both the exterior as well interior from the AMG performance studio.



The Mercedes-AMG E63 sedan gets a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 unit which is capable of producing about 571 Hp of peak power at 5750 – 6500 rpm and 750 Nm of torque in between 2250–5000 rpm while the same engine has been tuned to deliver 612 Hp of peak power at 5750 – 6500 rpm and 850 Nm of torque in between 2500–4500 rpm. The engine is paired to a 9-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT sports transmission. Power is sent to the four wheels via the help of an all new and innovative AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive system. This varies torque on both the front and rear axles and ensures optimum traction. This all wheel drive system helps in longitudinal drive and also provides even more powerful acceleration.

Talking about performance the base E63 AMG is capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h mark in 3.5 seconds while the E63 S achieves the same in just 3.4 seconds. The top speed of both these cars is electronically restricted to 250 km/h mark. The owners can opt for the AMG Driver’s package and increase the top speed to 300 km/h.

The all new sedan gets an AMG Cylinder Management cylinder deactivation system which actually helps in lower consumption of fuel. When the system detects that there is no use to use all the cylinders the system automatically shuts down cylinder number two, three, five and eight automatically which obviously helps in lower consumption of fuel.

The AMG suspension setup also has been completely re-engineered as well, this sports suspension setup is based on the AIR BODY CONTROL fully supporting multi-chamber air suspension and affords very high camber stability. While the vehicles dynamics and are also combines with high level of comfort. The front suspension setup gets four link four axle design which uses forged aluminium components with wishbones. While the rear suspension system now gets a new mount which has helped in reducing the NVH levels. E 63 4MATIC+ has internally vented and perforated compound brake discs in size 360 x 36 mm at the front with six-piston fixed calipers and in size 360 x 24 mm with single-piston floating brake calipers on the rear axle. The E 63 S 4MATIC+ is fitted with even larger compound brake discs on the front axle in size 390 x 36 mm. There is also an optional AMG Carbon Ceramic braking system available as well.

Mercedes-AMG also offers four different AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs which includes “Comfort”, “Sport”, “Sport Plus” and “Individual” modes. The last mode actually allows the driver to influence the characteristics of their E 63 4MATIC+ key parameters. These parameters like the engine, transmission, suspension, steering, ESP and all-wheel drive system can be individually modified. The driver in particular also has to switch directly to the manual mode by pressing the ‘M’ button. The electromechanical speed-sensitive sports steering wheel features a variable ratio. The steering power assistance is adjusted when the various driving modes are selected.



The car has not been launched yet it will be first showcased at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto show and will be go on sale from 17th March 2017 onward. This will definitely make it to the Indian market as well.



There is no doubt that the huge engine, all those improvements in mechanicals, combination of various drive configurations, Torque distribution to the front and rear wheels, various drive configurations expressive exterior and interior design makes this sedan a complete performance oriented car and not just any luxury sedan trying to wear the sporty tag.
