The Mercedes-Benz CLA Class was an instant hit from the day it was launched in both the International as well as Indian market. The CLA was built on the same compact platform which also underpins their other compact cars like the A, B and the GLA, while Mercedes decided to introduce the AMG variant of their car it was an instant hit because when it was introduced in the Indian market the CLA 45 AMG was the most affordable AMG car of the lot.
Now exactly after three years Mercedes has introduced the facelift variant of their CLA class which is also has also helped Mercedes to gain the highest figure ever for their compact cars. The CLA 45 AMG already packed an aggressive styling and interior to die for and an impressive small but powerful drivetrain under its hood. The facelift model although received few minor changes in terms of overall exterior as well interior design but this definitely has made the overall package even more lucrative. There is no doubt about the popularity of the CLA 45 AMG and although this is a small sedan which gets a coupe like design but this is definitely also the most powerful car of its segment.

Like we already mentioned above the facelift CLA 45 has not received any major changes in terms of styling but it did receive some significant upgrades which comes in the form of a new LED High Performance headlamps which are now available as standard with the car. The twin louvres that will notice on the radiator grille are also finished in silver chrome.
Mercedes also claims that the overall aerodynamics of the sedan has also been improved and the Cd value has also been reduced. The AMG A wing on the front apron also has been restyled and it now gets front splitter inserts finished in matt titanium grey and high-gloss black flics. That is the change that you will notice towards the front. Move to the side profile of the car and you will notice new two new attractive light-alloy wheels which actually joins the rest of the range. The standard car however comes fitted with 18 inch AMG ten-spoke wheels painted titanium grey or black. While a 19 inch AMG cross spoke alloy wheels comes as an option.
Towards the rear profile the CLA 45 also gets AMG spoiler lip on the boot lid, besides the new diffuser design which gets four vertical fins as well. Mercedes-Benz is also offering an additional AMG Aerodynamics package as well. This aerodynamic package gets an additional larger front splitter, a black AMG spoiler lip at the rear plus spoiler lips over the simulated air outlets towards opposite sides at the rear.
As you all already would have noticed that the interior of the CLA 45 is little driver oriented which is definitely a good thing. Just like the exterior instead of a fully revised interior Mercedes Benz has actually decided to upgrade the interior of the facelift variant. The instrument panel now gets covered with ARTICO man-made leather along with the beltliners, these gets touch of red contrast top stitching as well. Mercedes has also provided an optional AMG DINAMICA Cockpit package as well which comes with DINAMICA Performance steering wheel as well.
Even the ignition and the R-Select selector lever also gets the AMG emblem engraved on them.
Unfortunately there are no changes under the hood and thus the CLA 45 still gets the same 2.0 Litre, inline four-cylinder engine which is capable of producing an impressive 381 Hp of peak power at 65000 rpm and an equally impressive torque amount of 475 Nm at 2, 250 rpm. All that power is transferred to all the four wheels with the help of a standard 4Matic AWD system and AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed sports transmission which comes with shorter gear ratios.
The performance proves quite clearly that the CLA 45 AMG is the most powerful vehicle in this segment; this car can accelerate from 0-100 km/h mark in just 4.2 seconds while its top speed is restricted to 250 km/h mark. This AMG is also a fuel efficient sedan at the same time and features start/stop feature which actually helps in returning an impressive fuel consumption of just 6.9 litres for every 100 kilometers.
RIDE AND HANDLING
There are no major mechanical changes made to the CLA 45 and thus it is still fitted with struts and wishbones towards the front and a four-link set-up at the rear. This sedan also gets electromechanical power assist rack and pinion steering wheel as well. There is also an option to go for the adaptive suspension as well along with mechanical limited-slip front differential which are a part of Dynamic Plus package.
The prices for the 2017 AMG CLA45 has not been released yet but keeping in mind the changes expect the facelift car to be priced a tadi bit higher than the existing variant.
The changes that the facelift car has received are subtle but the upgrades are well worth every penny. As we have already said in the beginning of this article the CLA45 AMG is already an interesting package keeping the pricing factor in mind and is perhaps the only car in its segment which does not have to face any direct competition in Indian market. Hopefully this new car will be introduced soon and will definitely be able to attract the attention even more.
