The reports of Kia Motors entering Indian market were doing rounds on the internet for quite some time now. The Korean car manufacturer also has plans to build a brand new manufacturing facility in India to start local production while they are planning to rollout their locally manufactured cars from 2019 onward. They also have announced that they will initially be rolling out two compact cars as of now, while their compact sedan will rival the likes of Maruti Ciaz and Honda City while they will also be introducing a sub-4 meter SUV as well.
Now talking about small SUV’s Kia Motors recently unveiled their new B-segment Crossover called ‘Stonic. Stonic is an original compact Crossover which gets true European design. The compact SUV according to Kia blends sharp horizontal features lines on softer sculpted surfaces which help in bringing compact dimensions and low centre of gravity to this segment. The front profile gets a sharp styling with an aggressive grille and bumper. Expect the front headlamps also to feature LED daytime running lamps as well. The vertically positioned fog lamps too look different and bring a fresh appeal to the overall design. The side profile gets a sweeping roofline and a unique looking roof rack to add the sporty appeal to the strong design. Towards the rear things look equally impressive as well with the duel exhaust and integrated diffuser.
Although, this is just a sketch expect the production variant to look more practical with bigger windows and regular wheels and tyres.
Kia has also released a sketch of the upcoming compact SUV’s interior as well. The cabin looks neat with finer straight lines and minimalistic yet modern looking design. The dashboard gets a flat-bottomed three-spoke steering wheel. There is a freestanding touchscreen infotainment system standing in the middle of the dash. Just below the touchscreen unit there are controls for the Automatic climate control and the touchscreen. The entire cabin has been finished in Black accents while the dashboard, in particular, gets a hint of Contrasting Orange Colour accents.
There are no details about the drivetrain yet but some reports state that the Kia Stonic B-Segment SUV will get 1.0 Litre T-GDI petrol engine which produces around 100 Ps of peak power. There is also a possibility that it could also get the 1.4 Litre MPi petrol motor as well which too will generate around 100 Ps of peak power. The diesel variant, on the other hand, could get the 1.4 Litre TCI (WGT) unit which could make around 90 Ps of peak power. All the engine mentioned above will come paired to a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual or a 4-speed Automatic transmission. Now, these are the same drivetrains which also powers the Kia Rio as well.
There is a possibility that Kia might introduce the production variant of the Stonic SUV in India because they have promised that they will be launching a B-SUV in India which will compete with the likes of the upcoming Renault Captur and the existing suvs like the Hyundai Creta.
