Fiat Chrysler Automobiles after a long delay finally made their India debut back in 2016 with two exciting products which included the Wrangler and the Grand Cherokee. Both these SUV’s were sold in the Indian market via the CBU route and thus were expensive and well above the reach of many. However, that is all going to change now because Jeep has decided to launch a new SUV which is well within reach of buyers.
Jeep has unveiled the Compass SUV in India today, and the good thing is that the compact SUV is made in India product which also means that the new product will also be priced quite aggressively as well. The brands new product will be locally assembled at their Ranjangaon facility in Maharashtra from June onward. The new Jeep Compass replaces the old Compass and Patriot SUV in the International market, and apart from the Indian market, the same SUV is also produced in some other Countries as well. However, the good news is that India will be mother hub for right-hand drive Compass SUV from where it will also be exported to some other right-hand drive markets as well. For all your information the Compass SUV is offered with 17 engine options for different markets of the world.

Talk about styling, and the Compass surely won’t disappoint. The India-spec Compass SUV borrows its styling cues from the Grand Cherokee SUV. Towards the front profile, the SUV gets Jeep’s signature 7 slat grille. The headlamp unit looks sharp and gets LED daytime running lamps and projector units. The side profile looks little-squared wheel arches. The rear profile too looks sophisticated as well while the chrome lining just below the roof rail which loops around the SUV adds a premium feel to the SUV. The rear profile of the SUV looks impressive as well with the wraparound LED taillamps. The duel tone bumpers towards the front and rear give a big appearance to the SUV.
The Jeep Compass will compete with other C-SUV segment and is based on the same platform as the Jeep Renegade, however, the Compass SUV gets a longer wheelbase and certainly gets Jeep’s offroading DNA.
Just like the exterior the interior of the Compass also looks like it too is heavily inspired from other Jeep SUV’s. The central console features a 7.0-inch touchscreen system; this infotainment system will get connected with an Uconnect system which is compatible with both Apple Car play and Android Auto. The instrument cluster on the India made Jeep Compass is a conventional unit though. The steering wheel too will be a three-spoke unit with the Jeep logo in the centre. The seats, in particular, will be comfortable; the Jeep Compass will be able to accommodate five occupants quite easily. Expect the Compass SUV to offer a dual tone interior finished in Black and Beige while the top end variant will also get a completely Black interior.
The good thing is that the Jeep Compass SUV is offered with both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol unit will be powered by 1.4 FIRE MultiAir petrol engines which are expected to produce around 160+ Hp of peak power and 250 Nm of torque.. The diesel unit, on the other hand, gets the 2.0-litre MultiJet unit which will provide 170 Hp+ of peak power and about 350 NM of torque. The following drivetrains will be paired either to a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Both the petrol as well as the diesel drivetrain is offered with both 2X2 as well as 4X4 wheel drive options. The Jeep’s dedicated four-wheel-drive system and also select terrain technology will also be present even in their entry level product for the Indian market which means the Jeep has shared its offroading DNA with the Compass as well. Besides all these offroading hardware the Compass will also get a differential locking system as well on the top end variant. The lower trims, on the other hand, will be offered with a two-wheel drive option.
Ofcourse the Jeep SUV is a global SUV, and the auto manufacturer will maintain Global safety standards when it comes to the safety of the occupants inside. The Jeep Compass will be equipped with airbags for both the front and rear passengers, while some other safety features like ABS, ESP and hill start assist will also be offered as standard.

Hyundai introduced the Tucson SUV in India last year, and this SUV positioned below their flagship offering Sante Fe attracted a lot of attention. The SUV is offered with both petrol and diesel drivetrains. The petrol unit gets the 2.0 Litre Dual VTVT unit which is capable of producing about 155 PS of peak power at 6,200 rpm and 196 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm. This engine is paired to a 6-speed manual transmission while there is also an 6-speed automatic gearbox offered as well. The diesel variant, on the other hand, is powered by the 2.0-litre CRDi unit which produces about 185 PS of peak power at 4,000 rpm and 400 Nm of torque at 1,750-2,750 rpm.
