Only yesterday Mercedes-Benz India launched the all new SLC 43 in India which happens to be the AMG variant of the SLC Roadster. The SLC is the facelift variant of the SLK class and is a part of the new Mercedes Nomenclature. What is more surprising is also the fact that Mercedes introduced the SLK 43 just after 4 months of its International debut. This actually also is the first product which was launched with a new two digit nomenclature.
Now apart from the new name the Mercedes SLC also gets a revamped exterior as well as interior. Gone are those boring styling, the new Roadster gets Mercedes families new face while the AMG touches has made it more appealing. However the biggest change that you will find is under the hood, the SLK’s bigger V8 naturally aspirated engine is now replaced by a much smaller 3.0 Liter V6 bit-turbo unit. So now the big question is that has it affected the performance of this new roadster which claims to be a part of the prestigious AMG family which is popular amongst the crowd for its performance.

Quite honestly the AMG SLC 43 looks almost identical to the standard SLC roadster except few changes which AMG engineers have made to both the exterior and interior to make it appear much more aggressive and sportier than the standard variant.
Towards the front the SLC 43 gets some typical AMG styling which includes AMG specific front bumper, the larger air intakes wings gets finished in silver chrome while the flics gets finished in Black. Apart from the bumper the SLC 43 also gets a diamond radiator grille which also features chrome-plated pins and a louvre in high-gloss black. Towards the side profile the Roadster gets 18-inch AMG multi-spoke light-alloy wheels painted in high-gloss black. The front wing on the other hand gets chrome fin as well as biturbo lettering which helps it differentiate from the standard variant.
Towards the rear the SLC 43 gets two quad-flow chrome-plated exhaust tailpipes while the rear bumper gets the diffuser look finished in silver chrome. The AMG variant specially gets the optional panoramic vario roof with a large glass element and the panoramic vario roof with MAGIC SKY CONTROL selectable brightness control. This foldable roof can be operated upto speeds of 40 km/h mark.
Inside the SLC 43 gets a multifunctional steering wheel finished in Black Nappa leather, the steering wheel gets a flat bottom. The steering wheel in particular gets red contrasting topstitching while the steering wheel also gets paddle shifters finished in Black. The interior also gets sports seats which come with impressive lateral support to keep the occupants in place. The seats in particular gets sun-reflecting nappa leather microfiber.
Apart from the new seats and the steering the sporty roadster also gets an AMG specific instrument cluster as well. The instrument cluster gets twin pod with a multifunctional 4.5 inch multifunctional color display which displays RACETIMER and 280 km/h scale in chequered flag design.
While the standard SLC gets the four cylinder unit the SLC 43 gets the bigger six cylinder unit. The 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine is capable of producing about 367 Hp of peak power at 5500-6000 rpm and an equally impressive 520 Nm of torque at 2000-4200 rpm. The engine is paired to a new 9G-TRONIC sports transmission. The new transmission gets standard-fit shift paddles allows lightning-fast manual shifting. If we talk about performance the engine is capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h mark in 4.7 seconds while it can reach a top speed of 250 km/h mark.
The car also gets AMG Dynamic Select mode as well which comes with three different settings which includes the Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport + modes. This mode completely transforms the engine response, transmission, suspension as well as steering response. These modes are actually selected with the help of a button positioned in the central console.

RIDE AND HANDLING
The SLC 43 gets a sports suspension setup as standard while one can also opt for the optional AMG RIDE CONTROL setup as well. The specially developed front and rear axles make sure that the car handles precisely. While the optional AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension allows an even more personalized suspension set-up, controlling each wheels individually.
The Roadster also gets AMG high-performance braking system as well. The large sized internally ventilated and perforated brake discs can absorb plenty of braking energy and quickly disparate the rising heat. The lightweight aluminium brake calipers on the other hand reduce the weight which actually results in improved handling.
Mercedes Benz India has priced the new SLC 43 at INR 77.5 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
The worthy competitor to this beast is definitely the new Porsche Boxster. The Boxster with its lightweight design and 3.8-liter flat-six engine surely makes it one fast accelerating car besides giving it a new character. This engine is capable of producing about 375 Hp of peak power and 310 LB-FT of torque. This car can sprint from 0-100 km/h mark in just 4.5 seconds and can reach a top speed of 280 km/h mark.
There is no doubt in the fact that the Mercedes-AMG SLC 43 is one capable car which is carrying forward its rich history with it. The new SLC with its overhauled exterior and interior and a new frugal yet powerful engine actually makes it a more practical car now. Although the car has lost some of its raw appeal but that impressive acceleration figure and the top speed still makes it one worthy Roadster which can proudly keep its head high and occupy an important position in the renowned AMG family.
