In India Japanese automakers share a large volume of the market pie. The Honda is certainly one of the most popular Japanese automaker in the country, which boasts several popular and successful models in its stable.
The compact hatchback segment being the most popular segment in the country, all the automakers try to capture a fare share of the segment. Honda being one of the major players in India’s automobile market couldn’t ignore the segment. The company launched the Brio compact hatchback few years ago, which became immensely popular due to its stylish compact design, practicality and peppy performance.
Now the Japanese automaker is working on an all new Brio, which would be launched sometime in 2018. The new Brio will surely come featuring an updated design at the exterior and inside the cabin as well. As the Honda Amaze and the Brio shares the same platform, it can be said, that the new Brio would come featuring the similar fascia, which the newly launched facelift Amaze sports.
The Japanese automaker is working on the new Brio, which is codenamed as 2UA. This car will be manufactured in the automaker’s Indian plant, and it will be exported to Japan as well. Therefore the 2018 Honda Brio will become the second made in India car to be exported after the Maruti-Suzuki Baleno. Moreover, Honda hasn’t exported any car to Japan yet.

The next generation Honda Brio will be based on the same platform the outgoing model is based on. The next generation of Brio will get a tweaked platform although. The modified platform will ensure rigidity and better safety. In terms of styling, the 2018 Honda Brio will come sporting a different looking compare to the outgoing model. The new generation Brio will sport aggressiveness and bit larger size. Expect the front fascia to come similar to the newly launched Honda Amaze facelift, sans the thick chrome grille.
The front grille receives a wider appearance with the Honda signature grille with the Honda logo at the centre. The headlamps sport a revamped touch as well. Expect the 2018 Honda Brio’s headlamps to come sleeker and with integrated LED daytime running lights. The lower fascia will get larger and bold looking air intake and large air dams at both sides housing the chrome highlighted fog lamp.
At the side profile, the car will sport redesigned alloy wheels, which will be available in the higher variants although. The lower variants will receive steel wheels. The wing mirrors with integrated side turning indicators. The shoulder line will be sharper and it will run upward toward the rear. The side profile would get crispy sharp character lines running upward. Moving toward the rear, the Brio might get a conventional frame instead of all glass appearance.
Dimensionally the outgoing model of Honda Brio comes with 3610 mm of length, 1680 mm of width, 1500 mm of height, 2345 mm of wheelbase and 165 mm of ground clearance. Expect the next generation Honda Brio to come bearing almost similar dimensional figures.

The next generation Brio will come featuring a redesigned interior as well, which will get a multifunction steering wheel sporting the audio controls mounted on the steering wheel. The dashboard will receive an all new layout with new colour theme as well. The new dashboard will be complemented by a new instrument cluster. Expect the new instrument cluster to sport a digital look. The centre console will be equipped with USB and AUX connectivity, while the top end trims might get a touchscreen infotainment system as well. Although Honda is tight lipped about the upcoming Brio, but the new generation compact hatchback would come offering more space inside the cabin along with added boot space and more comfort for the occupants.
The engine and transmission would remain same. In that case, the 2018 Honda Brio will be powered by a 1.2 litre four cylinder SOHC engine under the hood which will be paired with a 5 speed manual gearbox. Expect a CVT to come on offer as well. The same engine under the hood of outgoing Honda Brio churns out 87 bhp of peak power at 6000 rpm and 109 Nm of peak torque at 4500 rpm. In the outgoing model the engine delivers a fuel efficiency of 12 kmpl in city and 17 kmpl on highways. Expect the next generation Brio’s engine to get a tweak to deliver improved fuel economy; the CVT version will deliver the similar fuel economy however.

2018 Honda Brio will come complying with the new crash test norms. The car will be build with a stronger frame compare to the outgoing model. It will also come with dual front airbags and ABS as standard safety features on all the trims. The top end versions might get six airbags as well. Expect the next generation Brio to sport reverse parking camera as well.
