Few days back, Vespa became a part of the India Bike Week, 2015. and showcased its four models – Vespa S, Vespa Elegante, Vespa GTS Super 150 and Vespa GTS Super 300. Among these four models, Vespa S and Vespa Elegante are available in the Indian market but Vespa GTS Super 150 and Vespa GTS Super 300 are reportedly to be launched in the Indian market very soon. Therefore Vespa is all set to launch two scooters from its GTS line-up in India which means that the scooter segment is going to get two powerful scooters this year. Vespa GTS Super 150 and Vespa GTS Super 300 belong to the GTS models of the Italian two-wheeler manufacturer which not only have enhanced powertrain and sporty performance but are also bigger than the VX and the LX models already available in India.
Of the two models displayed at the IBW, 2015, the GTS Super 150 had a bright red colour but with the same retro look like every Vespa scooter gets. To add to the sophistication, the scooter has got a combination of black for its seats and tires and shiny metallic inserts all over its body and metal rear view mirrors. This scooter draws its power from a LEm 3 single cylinder, 4 strokes, 3 valves, 154.8 cc engine as the name suggests which provides a power output of 8.7 kW at 7,500 rpm and a torque output of 12 Nm at 5,000 rpm. On the other hand, the Vespa GTS Super 300 is a bit more powerful and has got a single-cylinder, catalysed 4-stroke, 4-valves, 278 cc, QUASAR engine with electronic injection. This engine produces a maximum power of 15.8 kW at 7.500 rpm and a torque of 22.3 Nm at 5.250 rpm.

In its quest to manufacture their first electric bike, Harley-Davidson has decided to bring their Project LiveWire to Asia. Project LiveWire is the initiative of the manufacturer to launch their electric bike after seeking valuable assessment from consumers by offering them a ride on the bike and help to guide through the development of the new motorcycle. This particular project made its debut in the U.S. last year in the month of June; the manufacturer had expressed its plans to extend this project in Canada and Europe by this year. On 25th February, Harley-Davidson will initiate its event at Malaysia’s Sepang International Circuit and will continue till 4th of March. The media and invited people only are to be allowed in this event.
What the Project LiveWire Experience does is that it invites customers to test ride the concept electric bike. Through the journey, the rider automatically gets to know more about the features of the motorcycle and thus they later provide their comments of their experience. Those who don’t yet ride will have the chance to feel the power of Project LiveWire through a simulated riding experience called - the Jumpstart™ demo. Harley-Davidson Chief Marketing Officer Mark-Hans Richer said, “Project LiveWire has reset expectations about what a Harley-Davidson motorcycle can be. The first phase of the Project LiveWire Experience tour provided valuable feedback about the features and experience riders expect from an electric Harley-Davidson motorcycle. This year we’re expanding that experience to a global audience to gain even deeper insights from riders to help us shape the future direction of this exciting technology.”

February has the shortest number of days but it is a month when the celebrations are at their large. Before we could get over with the celebrations of the so-called ‘love week’, here comes another reason for our enjoyment, the India Bike Week, 2015 (IBW). This event has been organised by the SEVENTY Event Media Group in association with FOX Life. Bookings and registrations have been started since the month of October last year and it is expected that a huge crowd of over 12000 motorcycle fans across the country. IBW is being held since 2013 and is a global event which is gaining its popularity each year, this year too, it is going to be a thrilling experience for the visitors.
This event is not only meant for rides, rallies and racing but a lot more than all this, like stunts, dyno wars, vertical machine, bicycle jousting and lots more. Its main attraction will be the customized bike by Yuvraj Singh, RCM Street 750 cafe racer and the most lucrative attraction will be the presence of Grant and Susan Johnson who have been travelling throughout the world since 11years who will share their travel story with all the moto-enthusiasts. Apart from all these, the superbike companies like Harley Davidson, DSK Benelli, Royal Enfield, RCM etc. will showcase some of their products.
It is expected that it will again be a electrifying experience for all those people who will be the part of this event this year. But those who will not be able to visit this year, here is a short preview of what this year’s IBW will be like.

According to Autocar India the new showroom have been christened as ‘The Riders Zone’ and was inaugurated by Mr. Shivapada Ray, COO, DSK Motowheels. Jaipur being the capital city is the business hub of the region and so this showroom in will serve the customers in the western part of the country. This showroom will not only serve as bike seller but also provide some of the other convenience like the 3S facility (i.e. sales, service and spares) by well trained service personnel.
DSK Hyosung already have its showrooms in - Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai and Pune; the brand also has a remarkable presence in cities like Raipur, Aizwal, Indore, Lucknow, Nagpur, Dimapur and Patna. An interesting fact is that most of the showrooms have been given a name of their own, for eg. The showroom in Patna is known as ‘Speed Riders’ while the showroom in Bangalore is known as ‘Surfers Automotive’. This technique of naming the superbike showrooms is quite appealing and helps the brand to gain popularity and recognition. Few days back Tata Motors had launched their ‘most affordable’ Nano in a new avatar and name, Nano Twist. Now Tata has launched the most basic variant of the car XE which is priced at Rs. 2.0 Lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi), and it is ranked under the XT trim. So just when we were thinking that Tata Nano is no more the cheapest car, this new trim was launched and it is now the most affordable car at this price range.
However, it must also be noted that Tata has not compromised with the features; rather the XE trim comes with power steering, air-conditioner, all black dashboard and front seat headrests in its interior and black bumpers, door handles, side mirrors, chrome strips at the front and rear, fog lamps, full wheel covers, roof-mounted antenna and roof spoiler at its exterior.
Tata Nano XE will be available in two shades - meteor silver and royal gold and will retain the same 2-cylinder, MPFi, 624 cc engine mated to a 4-speed manual transmission gearbox like any other variants. The features that have been excluded in this trim are – heater (a function in the AC), front power windows, music system, central locking and rear parcel shelf.
This really comes as a good news for many families who were planning to buy an affordable entry level hatchback under Rs. 3 lakhs price range. Tata Nano Twist currently competes with other hatchbacks like Maruti Suzuki Alto 800.
After Royal Enfield, now its turn for Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd. to enjoy a moment of pride as they have been successful in increasing their domestic sales in the month of January, 15’ by 21 percent as compared to the same month in the year 2014. A total of 39,309 units were sold in 2015, compared to the 32,534 units sold in 2014 thereby increasing the sales structure in the first month of the New Year. The sales units comprises of scooters as well as the motorcycles. The various new launches by the company owe the growth in sales of the Yamaha motorcycles, especially the scooters that have created uproar in its segments.
So this success by the two-wheeler manufacturer has yet again proved their strong presence over its competitors in the country. No doubt the brand ‘Yamaha’ has been a sensation among the young males in India and with the launch of the scooter Ray, and Alpha Yamaha has successfully bonded with its new female customers too. Ray Z has brought Yamaha more fame because of its strategic business policy that has even targeted the students and college-goers of the country. Nonetheless the motorbike section has some unique bikes like - Yamaha FZ-S Version 2.0,, Yamaha Fazer FI Version 2.0, Yamaha R6 etc. that excel not only in performance but also looks along with them there is Yamaha’s promise to bring more exciting products like YZF-R3, YZF-R1 etc. into the country.

Indian Motorcycles has launched a new two-wheeler, Roadmaster in India few days back but they have not made any public announcement so far.
The bike is a touring cruiser and its price starts from Rs. 37, 00, 000, the price differs based on the color of the bike that you choose. Indian Motorcycle is basically an American brand based in Springfield, Massachusetts, U.S. with a glorious history of its own. This two-wheeler company has seen many ups and downs, it was even a great competitor to Harley Davidson and presently it still stands apart from the other two-wheeler companies based on the quality bikes it produces.
The 2015 Indian Roadmaster, according to its company is built upon the exemplary Roadmaster name used by Indian in the 1940s. This bike bears in it the impression of a classic American Luxury and has been built keeping in view the Indian Motorcycle comfort, styling and performance out on the open road, for the long distance rides and is available in three shades namely - thunder black, red ivory cream and red.
Indian Roadmaster comes with some standard features like a Thunder Stroke 111 engine for high performance delivery, Remote Locking saddle storage bags, Pathfinder LED headlamps, Keyless Ignition and Desert Tan Genuine Leather Seats for the rider’s comfort. Apart from the standard features, the bike also bears the luxury features such as Horizon Power Windshield with push-button adjustability, a total of 37 Gallons of weatherproof storage placed at different sides of the bike within an easy reach of the rider while riding, Heated rider and passenger seats with individual controls and Adjust heated grips for the right temperature with ten settings.
Apart from all these one will find many custom options for this bike too. So far with all the features included, it looks a promising bike that costs 37 Lakhs, but the reason for IM to keep the launch under the wraps is quite confusing.

BikeAdvice.in, the two-wheeler website in India have reportedly received an invitation from Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. to attend a press conference on 4th February, 2015. As per the venue chosen and the confirmation of the official presence of Mr Keita Muramatsu, President and CEO of HMSI, it was at first speculated that Honda is possibly up to launch a new two-wheeler model on that day.
Honda previously had mentioned it while speaking of its ambitious future plans for the year 2015, that they’ll launch 14 two-wheelers in different segments. If the upcoming Press Conference event has been organized for a launch then it is really tough to guess that which motorcycle or scooter India shall receive this time from Honda’s stable.
However, things got really interesting when BikeAdvice again did some searching on their part and have come across some documents from their invitation which confirms that the event has been organized for a vehicle launch. It is clearly and specifically mentioned in the document that it is a ‘Launch of a new product’ and it is a ‘Motorcycle’ and not a scooter. With this much amount of information sorted out, now we are left with only three models - CBR300R, CBR150R (updated one) and CBR650F to guess from. However, out of these three bikes, only the CBR650F has been oficially confirmed for India by Honda and the rest of the two have not received any official confirmation yet. However, few days back, we had reported that Honda have imported CBR150R in India for R&D. So whichever bike that Honda is planning to launch, we hope that it’ll certainly be a groundbreaking one.

Few months back, we saw Mahindra-Two-Wheelers bought 51 percent stake of the French two-wheeler company Peugeot Scooters. Back then, Dr. Pawan Goenka, Executive Director, Mahindra & Mahindra had claimed that through this alliance, both the companies will gain profits as it will pave way for Peugeot to launch its popular scooters in India.
Mahindra have been trying to strengthen its foothold in the two-wheeler segment not only in India but also globally. To accomplish its goals, Mahindra-Two-wheeler has recently launched ‘Gusto’, a 110cc scooter and ‘GenZe’, an electric scooter only for the U.S. market. According to a recent report from Autocar India, Mahindra has bought six different models of scooter from Peugeot to India for R&D. However, Mahindra is quite reluctant to reveal any information regarding this action of theirs.
The scooters bought by Mahindra-Two-Wheelers are - Peugeot Satelis 2 – 300i, Peugeot Metropolis 400 I RS, Peugeot Streetzone, Peugeot Django Sport, Peugeot Citystar 125, and Peugeot Speedfight 3. Among these scooters, only few of them look promising for the Indian market as per their specification. Mahindra’s refusal to comment anything about this matter right now has left the people to make their own guesses. Maybe these scooters are not meant to launch in Indian roads, rather they would be marketed in abroad only. However, the most intriguing fact is that Mahindra have not yet completely denied it when they were asked whether they are to launch the six Peugeot scooters in India or not.

The Swedish motorsport and engineering firm, Polestar and Volvo has jointly initiated the production of their two concept cars, the Volvo S60 and the Volvo V60. The first production models have been rolled out from the Volvo Torslanda factory plant and are on their way towards their customers. In the recent past, Volvo’s factory in Torslanda celebrated to mark its 50 years of existence and reaching the milestone of producing a total of over 6.8 million cars during these years. Volvo will be producing a total of 750 units of V60 and S60, since these are limited edition cars and will go on sale in the markets of the countries like - Canada, the Netherlands, Japan, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and the USA later in this year. The Polestar model marks the first ever independent partner being involved in the production process.
Magnus Hellsten, who is the Vice President Car Manufacturing Europe at Volvo Cars said,” We are delighted to see the first cars leave the factory and it has been an exciting journey together with Polestar to see these cars from the drawing board until the actual finalized product being produced with us on the factory line.” Both these cars will feature a 350 hp T6 engine which hits the 100kmph mark from standstill in just 4.9 seconds (as claimed by the manufacturer). Both these cars are made in such a way that the customers may enjoy it on any sort of roads or in any driving conditions and even can take long journey with their family in any sort of climatic conditions. Also a highly developed chassis and high performance dampers and brakes combined with four wheel drive system makes it appealing to those who have a fetish for performance cars.

A few days ago, Volvo released some of the shots of its India-bound 2015 XC90’s interior, now, the manufacturer has officially announced that it has totally transformed the in-car driving experience of that SUV.
The designers and engineers at Volvo have come up with an innovative and intuitive technology which will change the traditional driving experience and make it easier and comfortable. This will be done by replacing the normal array of buttons with a large tablet-like touch screen, a head-up display and thumb controls on the steering wheel. Thus it makes it clear that the upcoming XC90 will not only have lavish interior as well as a modern in-car control system.
2015 Volvo XC90 will have a sleek control panel featuring an adaptive digital instrument cluster in front of the driver. All the important information will be projected on the head-up display on the lower part of the windscreen. Also, the user interface includes thumb-reach controls on the steering wheel and state-of-the-art voice control. Dr Peter Mertens, Volvo Car Group’s Senior Vice President Research and Development said, “Using the screen is so logical that it will become part of your muscle memory very quickly, information, navigation and media are high up and easy to check. The phone controls, application icons and climate controls are located low and are comfortable to reach and touch. All of this logic is based on extensive usability and user experience research and the latest technology.”
The XC90 have thus becomes the very first Volvo car which will offer Apple CarPlay, that will bring some selected features and services familiar to the iPad, iPhone and iPod users and so the riders can use these features directly from their car via the large centre console touch screen display. Therefore the users will be able to recognize the popular icons for their basic Apple applications, such as phone, messages, music and navigation.

Eric joined Toyota in 2008 to test the waters in the evolving technology of hybrid vehicles by becoming a part of the research and development of multiphysics simulation and thermal management technology for hybrid vehicle power electronic systems in Toyota. His aim was simply to improve the performance of the Toyota’s hybrid vehicles. From the very beginning, Eric had a futuristic mindset and has been interested in concepts such as space and astronautics and thus he grabbed the position of senior engineer for the University of Michigan’s Space Physics Research laboratory and ended up in becoming a Manager of the Electronics Research Department (ERD) at Toyota Technical Center (TTC), where his main responsibilities are the development of elemental technologies for future hybrid vehicle power electronic systems. After spending almost five years in Toyota, Eric could cracked the formula to invent something that has the potential to significantly improve the efficiency of hybrid vehicles. He has invented a new Micro-channel Cold Plate in EVs and Hybrids that holds the capacity of making 70% increase in heat transfer with a 50% reduction of pumping power which chalks out the probability of a 10% increase in hybrid efficiency.
How important this invention is if you think then it must be known that this invention was recognized for an R&D 100 Award. This very award is also known as the “Oscars of Invention” recognize and celebrate the top 100 technology products of the year. So it is clear that Eric’s contribution towards the invention has been a massive one. Chevy Camaro is going to make its presence felt on the big screen for the fourth time, it made its first appearance in Transformers in the year 2007, where Bumblebee was first showcased as hand-me-down 1977 second-generation Camaro. This car was flashy, with rust and primer spots as its flashy yellow color covered in patina. However, in the same movie, Bumblebee is gradually changed into a fifth-generation Camaro.
This Camaro was an off-running concept which was specially designed for the movie as the movie was made two years before the Camaro would go on sale. The second sequel of the movie, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was released in the year 2009, few months after the launch of Chevrolet Camaro. In this movie, a modified production version of the car was displayed with black rally stripes on its hood and trunk deck lid, a mailslot hood, and a custom made front bumper. Transformer; Dark of the Moon which was their last released film in the year 2011, Bumblebee was lifted to the SS model. The color too was changed into amber yellow rather than pure yellow including dark colored wheels and black side mirrors.

We all have known Toyota as the Japanese manufacturer auto manufacturer so far; however, this very manufacturer has a different side too. In George Town, Kentucky, Toyota has established 10 beehives since 2010 which now has more than 85, 000 honeybees. In this season, honeybees get down at their work of pollinating and increasing the population of the plants and in this work they are getting support from the manufacturer. These honeybees wander down Cherry Blossom Way to the walls of a building at Toyota’s plant in Kentucky. Swarms of these pollinators are a potential safety issue, but Toyota eliminates concerns by establishing on-site hives each spring.
This results in the increase of the yield of the garden of this facility and the plant gives away its visitors more than 100 pounds of Cherry Blossom Honey! Toyota’s effort has been recognized by the Wildlife Habitat Council and North American Pollinator Protection Campaign in the year 2011 and also has awarded the plant with a Pollinator Protection Award for their noble efforts. In New Jersey, Toyota’s parts distribution centre is also helping the bees and has recently donated two new honeybee hives to pollinate its working farm and gardens to the Montclair Historical Society.
The Bee Bold Apiaries, the organization that maintains the Montclair hives have seen the hard working bees to collect around 66 pounds of pollen per year helps ensure the farm yields a healthy crop for those in need; all food grown there goes to feed low income families in the area.

Not only this, customers whose Chevy four wheeler is less than 5 years from buying may also avail the Roadside Assistance package at a nominal charge. Also, under the Chevrolet U-First programme, the fairer sex will also be benefited as the registered women customers will be provided free pick up and drop off of their Chevrolet cars for service, by the Chevrolet Authorized Workshops.
Chevrolet also have developed few digital applications such as the ‘Chevrolet Service Estimator Online’ a tool which is available on the Chevrolet India website that helps calculate periodic service costs, and the ‘MyChevroletIndia’ a mobile application, which helps the customers to locate & contact the nearest authorized Chevrolet service station. It is hoped that Chevrolet will be able to woo its customers with the services.
Inclusion of safety features in the cars have become a very important factor with the increasing number of accidents on road and that is the reason why the safety systems in vehicles have evolved a lot more in the past few years. Ford too has jumped into the bandwagon and has developed a new and innovative inflatable airbag design with knee airbag protection for its 2015 Mustang. This innovative safety technology has never been seen before in any other cars and addition of this will increase the safety of the passengers to a whole new level.
How does it work?
In this technology, an injection-molded plastic bladder is placed sandwiched in between the inner and outer glove box door panels. When any vehicle impact is detected by the crash sensor system and it is classified, an inflator fills the bladder with air which extends the entire glove box outer door panel toward the front passenger’s legs. Once deployed, the outer door helps to provide cushioning in a manner similar to a traditional knee airbag thus saving the knee of the passenger from the anticipated crash. As the glove box-integrated airbag extends straight out from the instrument panel, it doesn’t have to travel as far as a conventional airbag, which deploys toward the floor before curving upward.

Honda Two Wheelers has inaugurated two new traffic parks in the two separate cities of the eastern region of India namely, Bhubaneshwar and Cuttack for the first time. This traffic parks has been opened by the company in order to promote ‘Road Safety’, which is Honda’s top priority globally since the year 1970. Similar traffic parks have already been opened by Honda in Jaipur and Delhi where over 53000 people have been trained. To accomplish the task, HMSI has associated with respective Regional Transport Authorities of Bhubaneswar-II and Cuttack. These two parks were inaugurated by eminent personalities and ministers of the state.
What is the purpose of these traffic parks?
These traffic parks help to promote Road Safety in a specially designed and safe environment. In this park, people from various age groups will be taught about the road safety. Children of age group 5-8 years will be encouraged to learn ’Safety with Fun’ through some Primary School activities and at the same time, children aged 9-12 will be made to understand the importance of safety riding through practical riding experience on a specially imported CRF 50 model.
Those over 18 years of age will have theoretical sessions and rides aided by trainers and will learn to tackle over a hundred types of dangers on the road. Honda claims that through this virtual experience, a person’s ability to predict and react to traffic hazards by creating awareness & knowledge about potential risks and how to deal with them safely. Apart from all these, Honda is also having unique training program for the females to make them learn to ride a two wheeler properly in a single day.
As the heat is soaring day by day due to global warming, people are realizing the value of the conservation of environment and so are our manufacturers and entrepreneurs. That is why Maruti Suzuki India Limited have understood the need of the hour and thus have aligned themselves with the Government’s vision and mission of adopting and strengthening usage of Solar Power by commissioning a 1MW mono-crystalline photovoltaic Solar Power Plant. This plant has been built at the Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar’s facility and will start the operations from this month itself.
Spread over an area of 8900 square meter, this plant will be able to provide an annual output of 1 MW of power and help to reduce 1200 tonnes of CO2 emissions yearly. It took Rs. 103 Million of investment to build this plant which was initiated from the month of November last year and has been completed in the month of June this year. This solar power plant will be having around 4,000 mono-crystalline panels and the power output will be synchronized with the natural gas based captive power plant and will be supplied to the facility.
On the initiative, Mr Rajiv Gandhi, Executive Director, (Plant), Maruti Suzuki said, “With the launch of 1MW photovoltaic solar power plant, Maruti Suzuki has taken the first step to harness renewable solar energy. The initiative is in line with the Company’s philosophy of adopting environment friendly technologies that may have high upfront costs, but help bring down CO2 emissions. Solar energy is abundant, versatile and efficient. Through this solar facility the Company will be able to contribute towards environment. Going forward, the Company is committed to expand its environment care initiatives.”

Soon after the launch of the ‘Duster Special Edition’, Renault comes up with the new ‘Travelogue Edition’ of its sedan, Scala.

The legendary British two wheeler manufacturer Triumph entered the Indian market in the month of November last year. Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL) has registered an impressive monthly domestic sales growth of 18% for the month of May this year. The company has sold a total of 13,362 units in the month of May this year compared to 11,342 units in the consecutive month, last year.
That said, the Japanese manufacturer recorded an overall growth rate of 23 percent during the time period of April and May 2014. They have sold a total of 24,402 units during this time span as against 19,830 units in the same month last year. Honda was also able to export 518 units in the same month.
Talking about the exact number Honda has sold 7218 units of their premium Sedan City, 4752 units of their entry level saloon Amaze, 1333 units of their hatch Brio and only 59 units of their only SUV CR-V.

TVS had launched Wego in the year 2010, since then, this scooter has been in the limelight and has helped TVS to have a decent sales figure. We all are quite aware of the fact that BMW themselves are associated with many charitable organizations around the world. Recently BMW has donated a brand new i3 to the Make It Right, charity.
This Charitable trust is responsible for building green homes, buildings and communities for people in need founded back in the year 2007, Make it Right has built 100 environmentally friendly homes, designed by some of the world’s most top architects. The funds which were raised from the Saturday gala will be used to build more Make It Right homes in New Orleans, Kansas City, Newark and the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in Montana.
The event took place for the raffle at its 2014 Gala on Saturday, May 17 and celebrities like Brad pitt who also happens to be the founder of the Make it Right foundation along with presenter none other than the Gravity movie actress Sandra Bullock led the pledges and announced the receiver of the brand new BMW i3 which is worth 55,000 dollars.
The BMW i3 is available in the U.S. market and this new hybrid car from the stable of BMW promotes sustainability in every possible way. This is the first mass segment vehicle which has been primarily made out of carbon fiber and reinforced plastics. This car also made using renewable resources like solar and wind power. Likely the interior too has been made using high quality renewable materials like recycled plastics, responsibly forested eucalyptus wood, plant fibers and olive leaf extract.
The BMW i3 has also won prestigious awards like the World Green Car of the Year and World Car Design of the Year.
The engineers at Toyota are burning their midnight oil to develop a semiconductor chip using ‘carbide’ in order to foster the mileage of the Hybrid engines of their vehicle like Toyota Prius. The element which the technicians have chosen, i.e., carbide is one of the hardest elements available in the nature which is next to diamond. It is being expected that these semiconductor chips shall increase the fuel efficiency of the hybrids by 10%. This innovation made by the manufacturer has been announced by them and their partners as - ‘Toyota have developed a silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductor for use in automotive power control units’. Toyota is also planning to test-drive the vehicles using this technology within a year on the roads of Japan.
The manufacturer has chosen carbide, one of the hardest elements among all the others because of its properties and characteristics like one-tenth the electrical power loss and 10 times the drive frequency. This means there will be less loss of power and the frequency of driving will increase by 10 times the existing one during the ride. Added to all these, the chips would also allow the engine to reduce the size of current automotive power control units by almost 80 percent. The manufacturer have achieved a 5 percent improvement in fuel efficiency while testing the vehicles and are confident enough to make this technology available for commercial purpose by the year 2020.
If this innovation turns out to be successful, then the hybrid powertrains will step into a new era of advancement.

British TV Presenter Jodie Kidd and war hero-turned-author David Blakeley has been a part of the 2014 Mille Miglia ’race’ debut this year and experienced a memorable driving performance. In the race, both of them have earned the highest final placing of any Jaguar Heritage Racing entry. Amongst the 450 other classic sports and luxury cars which were a part of this race, Jodie Kidd and David Blakeley drove their stunning Jaguar XK 120 which has been nicknamed ’Betsey’ by them during the event and resulted into a credible 130th place in the final standings.
When Jodie Kidd was asked about his experience in the race, he confessed that he and David Blakeley were exhausted right then but held the most incredible memories from this special event. About his car ‘Betsy’, he said that she was fast and smooth throughout the journey and gave them much delight to experience them the Italian countryside to a full extent. On behalf of David and himself, he expressed his immense pleasure and also said that they felt privileged to ride one of the most beautiful cars in the entire event. He also said that they would come back for the race the next year.
As 2014 Mille Miglia has come to an end, a lot of short films have been released of the highlights of the race event. Volkswagen Group has received the World Environment Center’s (WEC) 30th Anniversary Gold Medal award.
This award was received by the manufacturer for their comprehensive commitment to environmental preservation and eco-mobility. The award was handed to Christian Klingler, member of the Board of Directors of Volkswagen Group of America, and member of Volkswagen AG’s Board of Management responsible for Sales & Marketing in a ceremony held in Washington D.C. on 15th May. Volkswagen won this award in an evaluation process through a global competition with companies in multiple business sectors by WEC’s independent Gold Medal Jury which was chaired by Dr. Joel Abrams, Professor Emeritus at the University of Pittsburgh.

Hyundai India had organized an exciting ad first of its kind event of i20 Reverse Revolution Drive at the Phoenix Market City Bangalore yesterday.
This event of reverse driving was organized to underline the fact that the i20 features Rear Parking Camera with display in the cabin mirror as well as Reverse Parking with Sensors and Electro Chromic Mirror for the first time in its segment. For the driving activity, a pre-decided imitation of the manufacturer’s logo track was made where the participants had to ride the car in the reverse gear using the features of the car like the Rear Parking Camera and Reverse Parking Sensors.
The contestants were shortlisted through a series of social media engagements and Facebook also; many i20 customers were contacted through tele-calling and e-mailers to get their participation. Thereafter, this selection process was disintegrated into three parts:

- * shortlisting the final contestants.

The 2014 Mille Miglia has already started, the enthusiasm has reached a new height and why not, the popular duo, US TV chat show host, Jaguar collector and classic car enthusiast, Jay Leno, and Jaguar Design Director, Ian Callum, have participated in the race this time. Both the megastars from Jaguar, this year will drive the 1951 XK 120 Ecurie Ecosse roadster. Among all the XK 120s in the world, ’LXO 126’ is a very important and priceless car as it is one of the surviving examples of three original pieces built to launch the Scottish racing team in 1952.
This car is a restoration subject because of the history it carries behind it, in the year 1953, the car returned to the race track of Nurburgring when the Ecurie Ecosse mechanics were quickly converting it into competition car once again when one of the team’s C-type’s met with an accident. Jaguar is all set to reproduce six identical models of the original lightweight race-breed E-type that existed back in the year 1963.
In the year 1963, Jaguar manufactured twelve ’Special GT E-type Cars’ for the first time out of eighteen and among them; the remaining six cars will be reproduced following the exact specifications of the original cars under the ‘missing’ category. These will be the hand-built cars which will be built in-house by Jaguar’s most experienced craftsmen. The manufacturer is looking forward to receive orders for the six Lightweight E-types from the people who holds the interests for such legendary and historic cars and also from those who collects vintage Jaguar cars.
The new E-type Jaguar cars will derive the power from the old 3.8 litre straight-six engine which was present in the original one. The weight will be kept limited to 114kg and thus it will weigh even lesser than the original one. The material for building up its body as well as its engine block will be aluminum which is well known for its lightweight feature. Also the interior trim and exterior chrome work and an array of other features like hand operated side windows will not be added so as to keep the weight in check. This reproduction of original cars is the first project of the manufacturer and the manufactured cars will only be sold to its potential customers through prioritization of the interested buyers.
With the passing of time the modern technology too is continuously evolving, which is resulting into a big fat urbanization. In full grown cities, the traffic rate is also increasing by leaps and bounds and so are the risks and the accidental factors. However, BMW Specialists have assured that they are burning the midnight oil to develop an Intelligent Driver Assistance and Traffic Management System to reduce the unfortunate accidents which takes place on the road now and then. This particular research initiative has been christened as UR:BAN (German acronym standing for Urban Space: User-oriented assistance systems and network management) as this new technology is targeted towards the future cities.
The driver’s assistant systems which are available so far focus only in making driving on motorways safer and more comfortable. While this fact is true to a certain extent but still other factors like watching out for cyclists and pedestrians are still an issue. So as a part of the sub-project “Protection of Vulnerable Road Users”, BMW Forschung und Technik GmbH is working on a driver assistance system to help protect pedestrians. This technology is such that it will analyze the situation and read the pedestrian’s behavior and will see whether there are any chance of collision or not. For this system to work effectively, it will require an accurate and complete “picture” of their surroundings and must correctly interpret the complex situations involving many different protagonists and boundary conditions.
A “Networked Traffic System” is yet another technology and the sub-project of BMW AG. This project is being developed with the collaboration of some other project partners to develop a Green Coordination and Deceleration Assistant. This technology will keep a track of the switching times of the traffic lights and the local traffic situation ahead of junctions to reduce the unnecessary fuel consumption and lowering the noise level also. The BMW 5 Series research vehicle currently has the ability to recognize the detailed feature of a pedestrian.
Three BMW classic cars have been selected to join the 2014 Mille Miglia legendary tour taking place through the Northern Italy. The three classic cars are the BMW 328, BMW 507 and BMW Isetta, of which Isetta is participating in this tour yet again after 60years of its debut on the same show. On the other hand both the BMW 328 and BMW 507 are the historical racing cars and are amongst the models which were installed at the start of the historic race events held from 1927 to 1957.
Mille Miglia is an open road forbearance race that was held in Italy in between 1927 to 1957. The race took place for twenty four times in total out of which 13 were conducted before the war and the rest of the eleven races took place after the war. Since the year 1997, Mille Miglia is considered to be a race among all the classic and vintage cars where the participation of the cars are limited only to those cars produced no later than 1957 and also which had took part in the actual race.
The 2014 Mille Miglia commenced from 15th of May in the North Italian city of Brescia, the race shall cover a distance of 1600kms or more. In this route selected, the participants will cross places like the Padua, San Marino, Rome, Siena, Pisa and Bologna before returning to the start point. In the year 1957, BMW 507 made its lone appearance in the race which was the last event of that race however, in 1992 it achieved success. On the other hand, BMW 328, in 1938 made its debut appearance in the race where it not only did win but also attracted the attention of many as an extremely lightweight and reliable sports car.
This year, a total of 430 legendary vehicles have taken part and also for the first time, the event will continue for four days instead of three. Therefore, on 18th May, the first car is expected to land up in Brescia around midday.

Rolls Royce has previewed its new car, the Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe Waterspeed Collection to some of the members of the press and some selected customers in UK.
This event took place on the site of the original Bluebird Motor Company which is now known to be as the Bluebird Restaurant, at London. The Drophead Coupe will finally be taken to the world-renowned Concorso D’Elegenza at Villa D’Este on the shores of one of Italy’s world-famous lakes, Como where it will be displayed to the common people for the first time. Through this car, Rolls Royce will pay tribute to the legendary Sir Malcom Campbell , who have set a world-record speed of 126.33 mph in the famous Bluebird K3 boat powered by a Rolls-Royce R Engine on 1st September, 1937.
Phantom Drophead Coupe Waterspeed Collection comes draped in the ‘Maggiore Blue’ exterior paint that was specially developed after taking the Bluebird’s special color scheme as an inspiration. This paintjob extends till the engine of the car for the first time in the Rolls Royce’s history as it creates a unique visual homage to the power behind Campbell’s records. This coupe features a number of exclusively created bespoke design and engineered features so as to pay tribute to Campbell’s famous craft.
Not only on the exterior part, even inside the coupe it gets beautiful touches of the ‘Maggiore Blue’ shade which beautifully complements the Windchill Grey interior leather scheme added to which, the Bluebird motif comes engraved in the centre armrests. Also the famous ‘power reserve’ dial has also been given a new interpretation as a part of giving a tribute to Campbell’s craft.
To mark the 50 years of Ford Mustang, UK based artist Robin Bark has been given a license by Ford to create limited-edition Ford Mustang collectible sculpture. Only 500 sculptures will be made of the 1965 Ford Mustang fastback and each of the pieces will be signed by the artist himself which will be placed in a commemorative wood box. A total of 10 pieces shall be manufactured in each batch which will measure 10inches (18cm) in length and will weigh more than a kilogram. The materials which will be used to build this sculpture are sand cast in marine grade aluminum and finally it shall end with a hand polish in an East Sussex-based studio.
Initially a clay model will be made which will then get the form of resin version, after which the polishing will be done to add the contours to the model. Robin Bark is well equipped in arts and has experience in industrial design, graphic design ceramics and metalwork. He also specializes in developing a series of cast-aluminum sculptures of classic motorbikes and sports cars. About this project, Bark says that, “Mustang is a very different shape from the earlier cars I had done, which were more classically streamlined,” he said. “I look for what the designers were trying to achieve with shapes, and try to capture the essence of the car while also imparting a sense of motion to a static object.”

Volvo Buses India Corporation has appointed Mr. VRV Sriprasad as their new Managing Director.

The manufacturer plans to launch two new motorcycles in second half of 2014-15. The first motorcycle launched will be a new member of Honda’s most affordable motorcycle line-up in India which will retain the Dream series DNA in itself. Mahindra group have recently unveiled a new electric scooter for the U.S. market and also inaugurated an electric two wheeler plant and a technical centre at Michigan.
Mahindra has launched a two wheeled electric scooter in U.S. keeping in mind the needs of the US customers. The first-of-its kind electric scooter named GenZe has been launched for the ease of travel, specialized storage and an impressive top speed of 30 miles/h. It has been loaded with many industry first features too. In most of the states in US, no driving license is required to ride this bike with 30mph top speed and GenZe is the advantage factor here for many people who does not own a license but needs a two-wheeler for commuting.

Audi has officially launched the limited edition R8 LMX which comes equipped with laser high beams. The laser light of the car gets active at speeds of 60 of km/h and above and supplements the LED high beam in the R8 LMX enhancing the visibility and safety to a great level. Along with that, this car comes with an intelligent camera based sensor system which detects the other road users and in turn adjusts the light pattern to exclude them.
This sports car will come with the Audi exclusive customized paint finish in Ara Blue, crystal effect and will be available as a coupe with a production run limited to 99 vehicles only. The R8 Lumix will retain its power from the 5.2 liter, V10 engine and will produce a maximum power of 570 hp and a maximum torque of 540 Nm. The car produces a top speed of 320 km/h, and the average consumption is 12.9 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers (299 grams CO2 per kilometer). A compact, seven speed S tronic gearbox transfers the power to the quattro permanent all wheel drive system.
On its exterior the front grille comes with a single frame and the rear grille comes with a titanium finish. The front has spoiler lip, the sides of the flics, the engine compartment cover, exterior mirror housings etc. On its interior front, the black colored interior gets the dynamic lines with blue accents, the seats are bucket type and come covered with Sepang Blue diamond pattern, the back rests are comes finished with Ara Blue color.

Activa is Honda’s legendary scooter which has been here in the market for some time now and is perhaps one of the most preferred scooters in the 110 cc segment. Since few months it has been across the web that Tata Motors is all set to launch the Bolt hatchback as well as Zest sedan in India in the coming months. Tata Motors unveiled these two cars at the 2014, New Delhi Auto Expo in the month of February. Since then, the Moto enthusiasts of the country are anticipating the launch of these two cars; recently the manufacturer released an update of the same topic by announcing a major recruitment drive. Tata Motors will be recruiting over 3, 000 staffs for their 200 dealerships within the country.
The company will hire candidates for the positions such as Customer Advisors, Team Leaders and Sales Managers. This is because the revamped Tata dealerships will now be loaded with technology so that the customers will be able to configure their cars real time on video walls using tablet PC’s with help of specially trained sales managers.

Yamaha had launched Ray Z in the year 2013 exclusively for the male customers of India and it emerged as a successful product in the market. The reason behind the popularity of Yamaha Ray Z is not only because of its cool styling (the USP of any Yamaha product) but also because of its performance. Now the scooter has also managed to bag the India Design Mark award recently and for the third time consecutively Yamaha India has received this award.
Yamaha Ray Z is the second scooter from the stable of the manufacturer which was launched with the concept of “Aggressive Sporty Design” and was targeted towards the age group of 16-22 years. The scooter derives its power from an 113cc, air cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 2-valve engine that produces a maximum power of 7.1Ps at 7500rm and a maximum torque of 8.1Nm at 5000rpm. This scooter returns a good fuel economy, smooth start-up acceleration and a good pick up too.
The RayZ looks sporty and trendy; the smoked-finish visor at the front adds a motorcycle-like image, aluminum rear wing-shaped tandem rider grab-bars, a new instrument panel with carbon fiber patterned background, a carbon fiber patterned seat cover material and a dynamic coloring and graphics. We are talking about a solar carport concept which has been developed by BMW Group DesignworksUSA for the use of renewable energy for its electric cars, BMW i3 and BMW i8. This carport concept is an intelligent combination of high-grade technology for generating electricity from solar power and an unique and innovative design that complements all the BMW i – models.
To build the carport, BMW has borrowed the design cues from their own BMW i series so that the overall design looks balanced. As far as the materials are concerned, the prime product used is bamboo in the form of struts; this is because it is a sustainable raw material. The other things include carbon elements on the side of the carport, high-grade glass-on-glass solar modules which are most durable one. This carport not only provides green energy to the cars but also encourages the energy self-sufficiency as a result; the customers would be devoid of any worries related to electricity charges.
In the carport, the car could be recharged with the BMW i Wallbox Pro and with solar electricity. The Wallbox reveals the amount of solar energy that the car gets and provides an analysis of recent charging processes which shows the respective proportions of solar and grid power. If the solar energy produced is far more than the requirement of the car, it could be put to domestic use. This is quite an innovation from the BMW group which comes with the promise of safeguarding the environment.
We have previously informed you about the Clerkenwell Design Week 2014 that has been scheduled from 20th May – 22nd May and also about the ‘Fearless Design Concept’ organised by Jaguar. Well! the results of this social media-coordinated competitions have already announced by Jaguar and the winner is Justin Silke, who happens to be a freelance interior designer and architect and he had named his design as ’Untamed Creativity’.
This competition was judged by Ian Callum who happens to be Jaguar’s Design Director. He said that they were very pleased with the caliber of designs submitted, but the concept that has won, embodies Jaguar’s design ethos of visual drama and individualism. At the Clerkenwell Design Week 2014, this winning design will be showcased as the main attraction which will have a bespoke installation beside it. This will be created by Jaguar and their event partner Foscarini. This unique installation is inspired by the new Jaguar F-TYPE Coupé sports car and will be presented as an illuminated sculpture in the Farmiloe Building’s dramatic atrium as planned.
Along with these unique exhibitions, there will be a new production version of the Jaguar F-TYPE R Coupé. This F-TYPE Coupe is the most dynamically-capable and performance-oriented amongst the Jaguar line up. The winner of 2013 World Car Design of the Year is in the convertible form but the new Coupé version gets the roof line that is inspired by the Jaguar E-type. The F-TYPE Coupé is resultant of an old desire of Ian Callum, Jaguar Director of Design of developing a two-seat Jaguar sports car.

Mahindra Ssangyong have launched the Rexton RX6 here in India, it is the new model of the existing Rexton and naturally is positioned in between the RX5 and RX7.

It has been one year since Chevrolet Enjoy was launched in the Indian market and within this time span, this MPV have won hearts of many. That is why the company has launched a special edition of the MPV to mark its first anniversary.

Suzuki Two Wheelers have finally raised the curtain from its much anticipated scooter, ‘Let’s’. Let’s is an 110cc scooter which is targeted towards the female customers of the country and is being endorsed by Pareeniti Chopra, one of the most popular Bollywood actress. It is clear from these facts that Suzuki has launched this scooter to challenge the other scooters of its segment like Honda Activa i, Yamaha Alpha and TVS Scooty Pep+. Suzuki had earlier launched Swish and Access in the 125cc segment but both of them failed to win Indian hearts.
Since the scooter segment is one of the budding market in India, the Japanese two wheeler manufacturer gives it another shot with their new Let’s. The scooter is powered by a 4-stroke, single-cylinder, air-cooled, SOHC, 2 valve, 112.8cc engine that generates a maximum power of 8.7 hp at the rate of 7,500rpm and a maximum torque of 9.0Nm at the rate of 6,500rpm which seems to be a decent figure on the paper.
Since the new scooter is directly targeted towards the female riders, the manufacturer has kept the weight lighter and the seat height is lower than usual. Available in five hues, this scooter also comes at a pocket friendly price of Rs. 47,610 (on road Delhi).
Mercedes Benz have made their position even stronger in India by opening a new showroom at Mohali, Punjab. It is the new 3S state-of-art facility which has been inaugurated by Mr. Eberhard Kern, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India and Mr. Raj Naresh Singh, Managing Director, Panjab Motors. It is Punjab’s largest and Mohali’s first ever luxury car dealership and another step towards its goal of building up the most qualitative and dense network reach amongst the entire luxury car maker of India. The luxury auto-giant has collaborated with Punjab Motors who have taken the responsibility of running the dealership.
The dealership is situated in the industrial area of Mohali and is spread over a larger area which includes the showroom as well as the service centers. The Showroom has a capacity of displaying 11cars at a time and the workshop will be available for general repairs, accidental repair, body paint, spares and other maintenance works.
Apart from the showroom, the company also have commenced its Grand Tour of the award winning vehicles comprising the A-Class, E-Class, B-Class and GL-Class. This will be a convoy which will comprise of gold foiled cars; these cars will be visiting 23 cities across India in next 45 days as part of Mercedes-Benz India’s ‘Celebrate Excellence’ campaign.

Last year TVS launched Jupiter, which was placed in the commuter segment and won many awards in different categories and became an instant hit. Although TVS did not launch any other product till now, the two wheeler manufacturer still is in a much better position than its competitors and has recorded the highest turnover for the fiscal year 2013-14 against all odds of the Indian economy.
However this year, at the 2014 New Delhi Auto Expo, TVS showcased their bountiful two wheelers among which the TVS Star City Plus was one of the bikes meant for commuting. TVS launched the same bike today in India; this motorcycle is the upgraded version of the existing Star City. Thus following its old tradition of adding a ‘plus’ to the name of any vehicle upgraded (Scooty Pep too was upgraded and renamed as ‘Scooty Pep Plus’), here comes the brand new two wheeler from the stable of TVS, Star City Plus.

Indian two-wheeler segment is on a continuous growth and the rulers of this segment are none other than Hero Motocorp, Honda, Bajaj and TVS whereas Mahindra two-wheelers is still lagging behind. In order to tackle this problem M&M have come up with a plan that will be executed under the Pawan Goenka and Rajesh Jerjurikar which would revive the business.
The executive director of the company has mentioned that his immediate aim is to witness Mahindra Two-Wheelers achieving the objective of hitting a million vehicles per year basis. He also added by saying that to accomplish such a goal, the company soon needs to have at least two or three products in their line-up which will boost their volume by 25,000 - 30,000 units a month.
The company cannot achieve their goals without a proper strategy and thus they have divided their strategy into four parts. One of the parts of this strategy will be to launch two products in the 100-150cc segment; their next aim will be to make a blueprint of the integral export strategy so that the volume can be increased. Ot5her aims of M&M is to strengthen their reach towards the rural areas also. The main role of Rajesh Jerjurikar will be to oversee the business of the tractors and the two-wheeler company will also make it a point to lower the material cost.
After launching the Centuro, the company has received a good response from the buyers but in the next 12 months, the company plans to launch 2-3 more products and so this time period is very crucial for Mahindra & Mahindra.
The largest car-manufacturing company of the country, Maruti Suzuki must be very disappointed because their total sales percentage in March has dipped by 5.5%, Maruti Suzuki was only able to sell 1,13,350 units for March 14’ against 1,19,937 units for March 13’.
The auto manufacturer’s domestic sales too experienced a heavy decline of 5.2% in the same month and only 1, 02,269 units were being sold in March 14’ as compared to 1, 07,890 units in March 13’. Even their most popular small car segment that consists of products like Maruti 800, Alto, A-Star and Wagon R have taken the hit and received a loss of nearly 11%. The manufacturer was able to sell only 40,085 units in March 14’ as compared to 45,047 units in March 13’.
Adding to Maruti Suzuki’s woes, their only mid size sedan Suzuki SX4 showed a sharp decline in sales by almost 54.5% and only 411 units of the sedan were sold on March 14’ against 903 units in March 13’. The company was even unsuccessful in selling even one unit of their premium sedan, Maruti Suzuki Kizashi. However, the manufacturer have had a sigh of relief because their compact car segment which comprises of cars like the Swift, Estilo and Ritz which showed an 9.3% increase, which means that the manufacturer was able to sell a total of 28,285 units in March 14’ against 25,868 units in March 13’
The Sales of Omni and Eeco vans too rose considerably to almost 2.6 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. Lastly their utility vehicles, i.e., Gypsy, Grand Vitara and Ertiga sales too rose from 6,499 units in March 14’ compared to 6,488 units in March 13’.
Few days ago we’ve seen Renault launched the facelifted Fluence in India and lately a new intriguing rumor can be heard that Renault India is planning to come up with a new small car to beat rival companies like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai etc who dominates the Indian small hatchback market.
The upcoming car will hit Indian roads next year and is codenamed as ‘XBA’ and will be placed in the hatchback segment. It seems that the company has realized the potential of the hatchback segment of the country and thus has initiated this programme. It currently sells Pulse, the only hatchback of its Indian model line-up. It has been said that the car would be built on the CMF-A platform which has been developed by Renault and Nissan jointly.
The upcoming hatch supposedly will be manufactured in India and Brazil according to the sources from the company. ‘XBA’ shall derive its powers from a sub 1 liter petrol engine which would come mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. An automatic manual transmission gearbox could also be offered by the company. With XBA, Renault is clearly targeting the existing hatches of Indian market like Hyundai Eon, Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 and the recently launched Datsun Go.
The rival hatches however have all the required features with powerful engines but are priced aggressively. So in order to attract maximum attention, Renault will have to be cost-specific while adding features and technology to it.
BMW today launched its most anticipated M6 Gran Coupe in India at a price tag of Rs. 1.75crore (Ex showroom, Delhi). The company had showcased the car at the Auto Expo held at New Delhi this year and had dropped the hint of launching a bountiful of BMW cars in the country in the coming months. BMW M6 Gran Coupe is an evolution of the standard M6 series which received four doors and smooth lines and have been transformed into a Gran coupe.
M6 Gran Coupe has borrowed the carbon fiber from its sibling
M5 which is about 2.5inches closer towards the deck unlike its sibling. M6 differs from M5 in terms of width and length as the former is bigger and also weighs almost 5kgs more and has a generous bootspace of 460l that could further be extended to 1265l by folding the rear seats.
Under the hood, M6 shall be having a 4.4-liter, V8 engine similar to the F10 generation M5 and the M6 coupe/ convertible that incorporates the BMW’s Twin Power Turbo technology and manages to churn out a maximum power of 560 HP and 680 Nm of torque. This powerful engine is mated to a seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission with Drivelogic. The M6 can hit the 100kph mark from 0 in just 4.2 seconds and can reach a maximum speed of 250 kp/h mark with ease.
BMW M6 Gran Coupe shall compete with other cars like the high performance Audi RS7 in the Indian market.
Jaguar C-X17 is the concept SUV from the stable of the auto-giant which is currently undergoing through its manufacturing process. The Concept SUV model debuted for the first time at the Frankfurt Auto Show, 2013. The C-X17 has the same highly advanced; aluminum-intensive modular architecture as that of the Jaguar XE sedan which is also going through its development procedure. Jaguar claims that the upcoming midsize premium sports sedan will run on an engine which will deliver inspirational performance and will offer the latest innovations in fuel-efficient technologies without sacrificing its drivability.
Jaguar’s Design Director, Ian Callum said, “We designed the C-X17 from the ground up from a distinct set of principles, a deep sense of what makes a Jaguar: exciting proportions, clean lines and its balance of form. Assertive and powerful, yet with a beautiful sensuality about it, the C-X17 too is boldly and distinctively Jaguar.” The SUV will be having some advanced technology and features, which will include:

One may choose C-X17 from three shades namely, the Caesium Blue, Liquid Aluminium or Liquid Gold. It seems that C-X17 is all set to emerge as quite a performer like any other crossover SUVs as the company seems to have been focusing more on the performance part than the ‘luxury’ matters. But a lot change when a concept turns into a reality hopefully the upcoming SUV from Jaguar will measure around 4.7 metres and will come with wider tyres, a longer wheelbase and overhang extended.
The SUV will go on sale in the global market from 2015 and hopefully Jaguar will bring the CX-17 to India by the 2016.
Jaguar has finally announced the named of its upcoming Premium mid-sized Sports sedan as ‘XE’. The Jaguar XE will be the first sedan to be built on aluminum monococque chassis and according to the manufacturer the XE will be one of the most advanced, efficient and refined sports sedan among its class. The striking feature of the upcoming sports sedan is that it will be the first product to be made up of the new advanced aluminum architecture even though it was first showcased for the C-X17 concept SUV at the Frankfurt Auto Show in 2013. The sale will commence globally from 2015 but on the company will unveil the product on the second half of the year.
Dr Ralf Speth, Chief Executive Officer, Jaguar Land Rover, said at the Geneva Motor Show, "We announced just about few weeks ago that our new Engine Manufacturing Centre would produce a new family of premium, lightweight, low-friction, low emission four-cylinder petrol and diesel units. The first of our Ingenium engine range will be used in our all-new mid-sized Jaguar sports sedan. That car will be called the Jaguar XE, and it will be unveiled in production form later this year."
The sedan shall retain its power from Ingenium engines which has four-cylinder two-litre petrol and diesel variants for the first time. The engine will be manufactured at Jaguar Land Rover’s new UK Engine Manufacturing Facility. This engine shall provide XE with best-in-class performance and with a topspeed that may cross 300km/h.
It is the most flexible engine architecture ever produced by Jaguar Land Rover that comes with an advanced design configured to suit in-line and transverse installations for rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations, the emission level will also be lower than 100g of CO2 per km. While the technical and range details of Jaguar XE will be launched later this year.
Toyota Kirloskar Motors had already showcased their all new mid-sized sedan Corolla Altis which will be launched by the end of April this year. In the meantime, the dealers of the company have initiated the bookings for this sedan at a down payment of Rs. 50, 000. Toyota Corolla Altis will be available with two engine options – Petrol and Diesel, the trims for petrol engine variant will be J, G, G CVT, GL and the top VL, while the diesel will be available in J, J(S), G and GL.
The petrol variant of the Toyota sedan will be equipped with a Dual 1.8litre, VVT-i engine which will churn out 140PS of maximum power at 6400rpm while the diesel variant will be powered by a 1.4litre, D-4D engine which will generate 88.4PS at 3800rpm but only will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The highlights of the new features in this sedan are:

Praise Datsun’s effort of creating awareness amongst the people about their brand or the bold attitude of the modern Indian consumers for trying something out-of-the-box but the company is in all smiles now. This is due to the fact that it has been merely 10 days since Datsun launched their hatchback Go in India and it already sold 2072 units of their entry level hatch. Datsun Go has been manufactured in the Chennai technical facility owned by Nissan India and is priced under 4lakhs according to the promise made by the company.
Datsun Go added a new lease of life into the hatchback section of the country with a fresh and aggressive design and technology under a lucrative price tag. Though the Indians have a lot of hatchbacks to choose from but since Datsun is a new brand in the country, it seems that people are trying out this new brand for a change. The car flaunts follow-me-home headlamps in its exterior and AUX-in in its interior which is generally found in some premium segment cars. However this hatch does not have enough safety features which is the concern for many but it atleast can be hoped that if this car is well accepted here than in future the company might re-launch the same adding all the features which it lacks presently.

The company hopes that this new green technology will match with the fast lives of the country people as it saves every drop of fuel thereby saving the non renewable source of energy.
Soon to arrive in India, the cheapest sedan from Audi has lately earned the top honor in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in the US crash test.
Audi A3 compact sedan was rated as Top Safety Pick+ by the Institute for Highway Safety. Audi A3 after undergoing the test scored ‘good’ in almost all the disciplinary ratings and the sedan also got an ‘advanced’ rating for the ‘Audi pre-sense front’. The pre-sense front technology in Audi helps the driver by letting them know when the safety distance from another car at its front has been shortened, thus minimizing the chances of any accident. Also when there is a dangerous situation, the electronic assistant gives the driver a warning and an automatic emergency brake gets applied when required. This whole process delimits the speed thereby lessening the possible impact, precisely any accident is prevented from happening.
The company must have been enjoying a high time because test as such are not quite easy to pass and not many cars can get over this examination successfully. Joachim Scheef, head of vehicle safety development at Audi AG said, “The Top Safety Pick+ award for the A3 sedan impressively illustrates the importance Audi attaches to the issue of safety.”
Now that Audi A3 has passed the safety test with flying colors, it seems that the compact sedan will arrive in the country anytime soon. This sedan was showcased in February at the Auto Expo, 2014 and the company has planned to launch the baby sedan by this year. The car retains its power from 1.4 and 1.8 TFSI petrol engine and 1.6 and 2.0 TDI diesel engines.
Last month we informed you how Hennessey Venom GT had reached 270mph and today we are bringing you news about the launch of the ‘World’s Fastest Edition’ of the same. In the previous month, Hennessey Venom GT has set a record for the world’s fastest two-seated sports car by touching a maximum speed of 270.49 mph i.e., 435.31 km/h at NASA’s Kennedy Space Centre. By doing so it crashed the already set record by Buggati Veyron supersports which hold a position in the Guinness World record for the fastest production car of the World. Buggati Veyron had reached a topspeed of 269.86 mph on the Ehra lessen Test track in the year 2010.
To celebrate this overwhelming achievement, the company has proceeded to launch this ‘World’s Fastest Edition’ Venom GT. This fastest two-seated sportscar will have a unique paintjob done which will have the colored strips of red and blue resembling the national flag of USA. The body of this car has been constructed with aluminum and the bodywork includes lightweight carbon fibres, the brakes are too light in terms of weight and are built with carbon-ceramic; all these materials has resulted into an extraordinary power-to-weight ratio. The car may however get a new 7.0-liter, twin-turbo, V8 engine in future for an enhanced performance of 1,244 bhp of power output and 1,565 Nm of toque.
By far only three units of Venom GT have been produced and they’ve been already sold under a price tag of $ 1.25 million each which is nearly 7.5crores in Indian currency. The World’s fastest Venom GT has however bagged a position in the Guinness World Record for the standing-start acceleration where it reaches an outstanding mark of 300 km/h (186 mph) from zero in just 13.63 seconds. Don Goldman, CEO, Hennessey said, “We’re thrilled about what we achieved at the Cape Canaveral with the Venom GT and now the World’s Fastest Edition is a living, breathing celebration of that record achievement.”
Last year we informed you Maruti Suzuki’s plan to launch a new hatchback built on a completely new platform and they also had codenamed it ‘YRA’. Previously, rumors led us to speculate that the hatch will come with a diesel engine option, but lately it was confirmed that the hatch will retain its power from a 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine instead. Among the total Maruti Suzuki line-up, YRA will be the first hatchback ever to have this engine which will return a fuel efficiency of above 20kmpl, an area where Suzuki cars are good at.
According to the plan, the hatchback is slated for launch in 2017, so the production will get started from the mid of 2015. The auto manufacturer will not only produce the hatch in India but also export it to the European markets. On the other hand, the engineers at Maruti are trying to extract a power output of 90bhp from the turbo-petrol engine as the company wants to launch a car which will be unique. Maruti has also joined the league of developing their first ‘self-made’ diesel engine for one of its light commercial vehicle with codename ‘Y9T’.
So with this new developed petrol engine, Maruti thus will become part of the car families like Ford, Volkswagen, Fiat and Tata who already uses the same engine. Cars which come under the sub 10 lakhs pricing will be featuring this technology, for example the recently launched Tata Zest and Bolt, and Fiat Linea which has been present in the market for some time now. Like Suzuki, Mahindra too is working on the same technology for their future cars. With YRA, Maruti is eyeing to give a tough challenge to its Japanese rivals like Hyundai and Honda, Tata etc.
Etios is the entry level saloon car from Toyota that was launched way back in the year 2011, and since date it has undergone only few minor updates. Now, the company has decided to display the next generation Toyota Etios in the year 2016 and are working on it. The current model did not seem to work out according to their expectation and we blame the styling rather than any other aspect.
According to the sources, we have come to know that the next gen Etios will focus mainly on its design as they consider that design is the sole factor behind the low sales figure of the sedan. For this, the company has decided to style their upcoming sedan taking cues from their new Corolla Altis and we anticipate that it will also display daytime running lamp. However Etios does excel in terms of fuel efficiency, space, durability and thus the future form of Etios will have everything intact but will come with a new cover.
According to the speculations, 2016 Etios will feature a new ‘Top Hat’ which will have nothing in common with the present box-like structure of the saloon. The company is looking for different styles keeping the original platform intact for Etios and its other future cars also. Under the hood, we expect Etios to continue with the current 1.2- and 1.5-litre petrol engines and the 1.4-litre diesel engine. Previous year, Toyota had launched Etios with a minor facelift but it was not enough to impress the buyers in India who are slowly becoming style conscious. It is hoped that the next gen Etios will emerge as a strong contender for its rivals.
Jaguar Land Rover is all set to increase its production in the country to 7, 00,000 units by the year 2017; presently the manufacturer is facing lack of supply of their SUV Discovery. This inability of delivering their products to the customers is taking its toll on the sales figures.
At present, Jaguar and Land Rover holds the capacity of producing a total of 4, 50,000 units among which around 85,000 is Jaguar’s own capacity, while the rest of the 3, 50,000 — 3, 70,000 units are of Land Rover’s. On the other hand, JRL’s Solihull plant situated at UK alone produces around 2, 00,000 units of Discovery, Defender, Range Rover Sports and Range Rover.
Sources confirmed that the problem of lack of products or the capacity of production will be solved by the mid 2015. Added to this, the production will also be increased to an extent of 30,000-40,000 units which will finally increase to 10,000 units by the end of the fiscal year 2015. This would be possible only when the Small Jaguar’s will be built with all-aluminium architecture. JLR will have to depend upon its joint ventures with China and Brazil as per speculations. So to accomplish their target of increasing the production capacity, JLR’s China JV and Chery Automobile shall start executing the operations by the year 2016.
Jaguar Land Rover sales Jaguar XJ, Jaguar XF, Jaguar XK and Jaguar F-TYPE and the Range Rover line-up including the Freelander 2, Range Rover Evoque, Discovery 4, Range Rover Sport and Range Rover in the country and has a total of 19 retail outlets spread all across 17 cities in India.
In the year 2013, the company had scored a sales percentage of 22% and sold 2913 cars throughout the year. So with the increase in the production capacity, it can be hoped that the sales figure will also rise considerably.
Porsche have recently launched the Panamera for the year 2014 and yet they have already decided that from what the next Panamera would derive its power from. Porsche has planned to add a new series of engine which will get its design from the company’s advanced platform of MSB. It may also happen that the company may start sharing this platform with Bentley from the year 2017 onward. The new engines which are to be added to the car are the V6 and the V8 engines and the company is hopeful that both these engines will be better than that of the engines used in their Volkswagen and Audi cars.
Wolfgang Hatz, Chief Engineer at Porsche had earlier revealed in the 2014, Geneva Motor Show, that Porsche will have its own new V8 that will be common to the new MSB platform. He also added by saying that it will be a family for the next ten years of cars.
Porsche without being a full part of the Volkswagen group have already developed their own new V8 and V6 engine which currently powers the Panamera and the Cayenne. However, the new engines which are yet to be built shall find their places in those cars which will have a MSB platform.
Porsche is now leading the current development of the MSB platform cars as cars of this model shall have sporty and luxurious front-engine, both front and rear wheel drive mainly from Porsche itself and partially from Bentley. But so far, Bentley have not yet committed for the development of its Flying Spur and next gen Continental GT models. Bentley might also consider its another option which is the Audi’s MLB platform, which is sort of longitudinal in its engine structure.
Maruti Suzuki had displayed its Swift Hybrid Hatchback in the Auto Expo 2014 and now the company is all set to supply a number of these hatches known as the Swift Range Extender to the Government for one of their projects. The dates have not yet been finalised yet because of the upcoming election but probably the project would be executed within the first half of the next year and the company will also provide the ‘green’ car to them in the financial year 2015.
Sources say that the homologation process of the car is in its final stage and the team is awaiting the ARAI certification. The Swift Range Extender will be categorized under the ‘Hybrid’ cars and it will derive its power from an inline, 3-cylinder, 658cc, petrol engine borrowed from Suzuki, Japan and because it’s an hybrid there is also a 55kw electric motor mounted on its front axle which gets its power from a 5kWh lithium ion battery. It takes about 90 minutes for the Swift Hybrid hatchback to get charged fully and it can run 25.5km at a stretch. The car returns a combined fuel efficiency of around 48.2kmpl and weighs around 130 Kilograms more than the standard production car.
Thus this car can be regarded as the ‘green’ car also; the sources have further revealed that the model which is ready for production has been developed in the country whilst the other important components like the electric motor, batteries etc. will be brought directly from Japan.
This car will be used for the pilot project which is to be undertaken by the Department of Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises, their task will include public transportation by these electric cars. The commercial production of this hatch shall kick-start only when the respective projects gets a green signal from the government but by the end of this year we may see these battery operated Swift Range Extender on the Indian road.
Volkswagen flagship products the Polo and Vento are the most popular amongst the Indian buyers. Perhaps this is the only reason why the company is keen on reviving the interest of their customers and wants to attract many more towards it. So in order to keep the excitement level intact they will be launching the facelifted Polo soon in our market and to double the excitement and fun quotient Volkswagen’s saloon Vento too will undergo major changes in terms of feature and technology.
On its exterior front, Polo will be displaying a host of new features like LED headlamps, an integrated reversing camera, and turn indicators integrated power folding side mirrors. Under its hood, Polo shall receive a new 1.5litre, four-cylinder diesel engine which will replace the existing 1.2-litre, three-cylinder diesel engine. The new Diesel engine has been manufactured especially keeping the Indian market in mind it will generate an impressive 89bhp of power.
The upgraded Vento will be loaded with exciting new features such as a rear seat entertainment package where there would be individual screens for the rear seat passengers placed behind the front headrests. Volkswagen will also increase the number of airbags inside the car for the safety of the passengers. VW might also use lots of chrome to add a little zing to the bland looking sedan. Although Vento will derive its power from the same engine which will be used in Polo but it will be tuned to generate more power a 104bhp to be exact. This engine will be mated to a DSG transmission gearbox and it is likely that by the end of 2014, Volkswagen will also make the twin-clutch auto ’box available with its sedan.
The German auto manufacturer also has taken a big step forward in localizing their products and thus will be building this new engine in their Chakan Plant in Pune.
Witnessing the potential growth in the scooter market of India, Suzuki Motorcycle has pulled up their sleeves to launch a scooter line up capable enough to compete with other scooter manufacturers of the Country. Suzuki plans to launch scooters of almost all possible price ranges to grab a fair share of the scooter market. The main aim of Suzuki Motorcycle is to challenge some big names like Honda and Hero MotoCorp.
Hopefully this time everything will go in favor of the Japanese manufacturer because their previous two attempts which came in the form of Access and Swish failed to make an impression. Their upcoming scooter will be placed in the most competitive and crowded 110cc scooter segment and will be christened as ‘Let’s’. Suzuki wants to play their cards right this time and thus the kept the pricing and technology of their upcoming scooter well within the reach of budget-conscious buyers.
Suzuki Motorcycle India Limited (SMIL) intends to launch a scooter line-up that will match the quality of that of the Honda’s. But for now, the company is only interested in talking only about its upcoming third scooter ‘Let’s’ which will be built with an aluminum-steel body and shall flaunt a sporty attire. The scooter will be powered by 110cc, four stroke engine mated to an automatic CVT transmission gearbox, it will churn out a maximum power of 8.7hp at 7,500 rpm and a peak torque of 9Nm at 5,500rpm. Another striking feature of this scooter will be its weight; this will be the lightest scooter of the country and will weigh only 98kilograms which will also result in an increased mileage of 63km to a liter.
It seems that the position of the automobile market has not yet been stabilized after the situation it faced previous year due to the market sluggishness. As a result of that the companies had to announce a considerable price hike. This year also, the scenario remains to be same, as it is third time in a row when the auto majors of India like the M&M, Honda,Tata are planning to hike the prices of their vehicle lineup. However the companies are not taking this decision because of market slowdown or cut in the excise duty recently, but rather due to the rise in the operating costs along with the unstable currency value.
Tata Motors, M&M, Renault India and Honda India will raise the prices of their current product line up from next month onward Whereas the others like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motor India and Ford India are still brooding over the matter and yet to announce any hike.
Parvin Shah, CEO, Automotive Division, Mahindra and Mahindra said, “We have witnessed a sharp increase in operating costs.” He also added,” There is huge pressure on margins.” The government had announced a relief from the excise duty by cutting as much as 6 percent last month on cars and SUV’s to help Indian auto market to regain its momentum but still the auto market did not show any signs of progress even after the owners lowered the prices of their products and the sales figures of various cars and SUVs fell considerably again by 4 percent.
Thus the price rise is the only hope for the auto companies to regain their sales percentage but it is yet to be seen whether this affects the potential buyers or not.
Built on a completely new platform, Celerio is the latest hatch from the Maruti Suzuki’s stable launched at the outset of the year 2014. The Celerio was launched hardly a month ago and the company is unable to meet the heavy demand of the new hatch from the Indian customers. Presently, the company produces 5000units of Celerio per month but with the increase in demand Maruti Suzuki has planned to double the production to 10,000units per month. Sources also revealed that the vendors of the company were being asked through a written communication about their take on this plan if they would be able to produce the assumed quantity of Celerio per month.
However, as the company have decided to discontinue the A-Star and Ritz hatchbacks, the production was decreased by 17,000units a month. Thus there is a fair chance of the company to increase the production of Celerio and meet the demands of the customers in the country.
Maruti Suzuki is the largest auto giant of India and it has forever wooed its customers with the cars that excel in performance at a price which does not feel burn a hole in the pocket. The company’s new launch too was not an exception as within a span of around two months of its launch, almost 20,000 Celerio has already been delivered across the country. The customers are inclined towards the automatic variant rather than the manual variant which is costlier but delivers an effortless driving. This choice by the customer has somewhat surprised the company themselves as the AMT comes at a price of Rs. 4.14 lakhs and the manual variant costs around Rs. 3.76lakhs. Still, this improved technology by Maruti has not only led in lowering the price of Celerio but also enhanced its fuel efficiency more than the manual variant. This new technology on the other hand is also a competition from Maruti Suzuki towards its competitors like Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra.
Volvo V40 hatch from the Swedish auto giant led other competitors to sit up and take notice. To be precise, the premium hatchback was an attempt to throw a challenge towards the other luxury brands as the car was an excellence in itself. But now rumors say that the company in the near future is going to replace the hatch with new premium small cars. These premium cars are currently being developed with the co-operation of Geely, which happens to be the Chinese brand owner of Volvo.
It is anticipated that the new family of cars will come in the forms of a five door crossover, a hatchback and a sedan; there is also possibility of more models of various shapes and sizes rolling out from their shade. From this venture, Geely which sells a variety of brands in China may simultaneously produce models of the same size. The parent Chinese company and Volvo have collaborated with themselves after considering the collaborations with the other manufacturers. The joint venture boss Mäts Fagerhag, who previously led the negotiations with other manufacturers said that they are in charge of their own destiny.
Both the companies have also set up new engineering joint venture to manufacture their C-segment Modular Architecture (CMA) vehicle family. This venture is also known as the China Euro Vehicle Technology (CEVT) which is situated at their engineering centre in Gothenberg which was opened last year, and has been housed in a different facility from Volvo’s original engineering operations. The company has not revealed the launch year of this project yet but it probably will be launched around the year 2017.
Mahindra has launched a special edition of its popular SUV Bolero and will make 500 of these units. Apart from the new features, the most important attraction is the addition of the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) for the first time. This limited edition SUV is based on the top end ZLX trim of the actual Bolero, and will be priced almost Rs. 50, 000 higher than the actual ZLX trim. The important features of the limited edition Bolero are:

Since the SUV is mainly targeted for off-roading purpose, the new blue vision headlamps shall provide excellent illumination and the first ever ABS shall provide the passengers with added safety.
Bolero has been an old horse among the SUV line up of Mahindra & Mahindra which has sustained amongst the market competition due to its consistent performance. The company too has upgraded the SUV from time to time so that it can attract customers throughout. Hopefully the limited version of the Bolero will be able to attract attention of the consumers.

Infosys, the second largest IT giant of the country has grabbed the golden opportunity of providing software applications to the Volvocars globally.
The contract is for multiple year duration where the company is supposed to develop various application softwares for the Volvo in order to enhance their sales and customer services in global operations. Infosys group is all smiles as this is the second time when they were lucky enough to grab a deal with an auto major, the first deal they got was from the Japanese manufacturer Toyota in the previous year.
Though the IT firm has not yet disclosed anything about the economy part of the deal but has mentioned that they received the deal due to their long and old relationship. This is in fact true because Infosys has been supportive towards the auto-major since 2010, as they have been rationalizing and integrating the enterprise system. And now as per the new agreement, Infosys will be developing applications for Volvo for extending help in the following sectors:

- * Product Development
- * Sales and Marketing
- * Customer Service
- * Corporate Function
Nitesh Bansal, who is the vice-president, manufacturing (Europe) at Infosys have said on the occasion that Infosys will be a strategic supplier for Volvo Cars to deliver excellence and innovation to transform their IT landscape to a modern architecture. He added by saying that they have an industry heritage, deep automotive expertise, and established track record of delivering that leaves Infosys well positioned to be a strategic supplier to Volvo Cars. This agreement also reflects their strategic focus on the Nordic market and strengthens their presence in Sweden. The Bangalore based IT Company have also said that they will organize the best methods so that harmony may prevail in the business process and they are able to deliver their best in these projects.
we reported earlier about the Toyota Kirloskar Motors shutting their plant in Karnataka due to labour unrest. But recently, TKM have once again lifted the shutdown of their Bidadi Plant in Karnataka and have resumed with the production work. However, around 4,200 workers have declined to enter the premises as the company had asked them to sign an undertaking on the good behavior that the company has asked for. The workers refused to sign the undertaking as well as to enter into the plant resulting in the continuation of the dispute.
Nobody was certain that when the company was going to lift the lockout but neither did anybody hoped that the company shall be resuming the production work so soon inspite of the prevailing disturbances.
The factory workers have also alleged that many contractual and unskilled labors are being asked to carry out the production. The protestant workers are so adamant in their demands that some of the representatives of the worker’s union even visited the chief minister’s house to spit out all the unfair experiences they are facing in the plant.
Volkswagen, has been producing some quite stylish cars with equally sound technologies worldwide is planning to enter into a new venture altogether. The German auto manufacturer has planned to launch a low cost budget brand for the emerging countries of the world like China and India by the year 2017. It is not yet sure whether the plan will get the green signals to proceed or not and only will be only will be cleared at the next Supervisory board meeting. When finalized, the future budget brand will have a new name and it will stand amongst the line of the other brands securing the 13th position owned by the Volkswagen group.
It is guessed that Volkswagen is quite keen on grabbing the maximum market share in the Asian countries and that is the only reason they will try to launch the budget by late 2016 and early 2017. All the cars of this upcoming budget brand shall undergo test firstly in China and then would be developed together with the dual Chinese partners of Volkswagen, i.e., FAW and SAIC. As mentioned earlier about the sales expectation of the company, Volkswagen expects to achieve a target of 5 lakhs per annum and if the brand proves to be successful enough then the company shall be expanding itself to the other ASEAN countries also.
For China and India, low cost automobile brands are however not new, companies like General Motors is associated with the SAIC and they together produce a low cost brand called Baujun, similarly, Toyota has its low cost brand named Avanza. In India, Companies like Suzuki has ‘Maruti’ as their low cost brand while Nissan has recently launched Datsun for the same purpose.
So the new venture from Volkswagen may not come as quite a surprise for the people living in China and India but they might witness Volkswagen to come up with something different from others.
When it comes to SUV manufacturer in India, Mahindra & Mahindra is perhaps the first name that comes to our mind. It is hoped that M&M will soon be challenged by the budding SUV Company, Force Motors. But the company is way too far from reaching the anticipated position as they have not yet launched enough products.
Last year the company had launched Force One EX variant with BS3 engine which is the base trim of the model. On the other hand, the LX trim, the highest of all variants which is driven by a BS4 engine and comes with a 4×4 mechanism has not yet been able to hit Indian road.
The company however seems to have other plans as recently they were spotted testing a new variant of Force One. The spy pictures from Car Torq speak that the variant must be the EX with BS3 engine and 4X4 mechanism and also come with jump seats. The other SUVs from Force One do not have the jump seats but rather have three rows of bench seats with middle captain seats as an added option. But it is speculated that these jump seats from BS3 variant will be able to accommodate a total of 4 adults.
Talking about the exterior of the SUV which looks very muscular, take a closer look and one may even notice the rear mounted spoiler. Under the hood, the BS3 variant shall be storing a 2.6-liter four-cylinder diesel engine that churns out 82 PS of maximum power at 3,200 rpm and 230 Nm of torque at 1,800-2,000 rpm respectively.
Though It is still not clear when the SUV shall hit the showrooms.
Last month a terrible incident was reported from Switzerland where a brand new 991-gen Porsche 911 GT3 went up in flames. This incident let the company to put their sales to a halt for a short period of time so that they can investigate the matter.
Still, Porsche did not officially announce any recall, until this week when they officially confirmed that the fire was caused due to ‘a loosened screw joint on the connecting rod’. The loose connecting rod somehow damaged the crankcase, which led to the leakage of oil that caught fire soon after. In both the cases from Italy and Switzerland, this was the sole root problem which led to the fire without any injury thankfully.
However, Porsche has actively taken this problem into account and are working hard to fix these errors. Around 785 affected vehicles were recalled through a Porsche center and the company is replacing all their faulty engines totally. The cars now have a new engine which gets ‘optimised screw fittings’ and out of 785, around 200 vehicles have already got their engine replaced and were delivered to their respective owners.
The company has not revealed the cost of replacement of these engines as each of the replacement differs from one another in labor and parts requirement. But the company has made sure the fact that from now on engines shall only come with the optimised screw fittings in all the Porsche 911 GT3 vehicles for the model year 2014, along with the undelivered items. The company has also confirmed that no other variant of 911 was reported of such incident.
Rumors always does spice up things and the recent intriguing news of Mercedes Benz taking hold over the Aston Martin have paved way too many speculations. Presently, Mercedes owns a 5% stake hold of Aston Martin, a venture into which the German luxury carmaker entered last year. This step by both the companies resulted into the installation of the AMG engine in the Vantage model of Aston Martin.
When the chairman of the Daimler group, Dr. Dieter Zetsche was asked about this matter, he neither did completely disagree nor did he agree on the matter completely. Rather he diplomatically answered that Aston Martin is a fantastic brand, and they are willing to support its further development. He also added by saying that Aston had offered the CEO’s job to three individuals and had been rebuffed by two but now had a third in prospect.
Earlier, Aston Martin was owned by Ford, but was sold later but still somehow retained the grille. With the ever growing competition in the international auto-market, it has been really a tough job for Aston to cope up without a stronger backing. But Aston Martin yet has been successful in maintaining its esteem.
Though it is not new surprise to all of us that a German auto-major bought a British car company, and now with all the rumors circling around, it seems that we will be able to witness a grand alliance between the two prestigious auto-companies in the near future.
Maruti Suzuki has planned to launch their Concept Ciaz sedan (pronounced as Chi-aaz) in the month of July.
This concept sedan from Maruti Suzuki was showcased at the 2014 New Delhi International Auto Show, where it drew a large attention towards it. It is also anticipated that once launched, the Ciaz will replace the existing SX4 sedan in the C-segment. Initially the company was keen on launching this sedan by the end of this year, during the festive season but considering the poor sales figures of the SX4, it seems that they are thinking of its early launch.
Under the hood, the Ciaz sedan will get a 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine for now which manages to churn out 90Ps of maximum power. This engine will be mated to an automatic transmission CVT gearbox rather than the automated manual transmission (AMT) unit. The petrol engine will not be launched soon but the company shall be adding a 1.4-litre K-Series petrol drivetrain which will be mated to a 5-speed manual or a CVT gearbox. Keeping the dimension similar to the concept it can be expected that the production version will be high in space and will feature latest technologies.
The Indian Auto industry has recently witnessed the success of the new Honda City. While the Vento from the Volkswagen’s stable also manages to score a decent sales figure. Perhaps keeping all these factors in mind, Maruti Suzuki has decided to launch this sedan earlier. It is yet to be seen whether the company will retrieve the design of the concept car or shall omit some of its features.It can be expected that with the launch of the Ciaz, Maruti Suzuki will be able to wipe off the poor performance figures of its SX4 sedan.

If 2013 was a disaster for the auto market of the country then 2014 is a drastic recovery phase for the same, with many luxury car brands approaching Indian market, we are experiencing a major uplift. What is even more exciting is that the Swedish auto giant Volvo will launch their facelifted that 2014 S80 by May 19th this year. This definitely is a good news for all those who were planning to buy a luxury car this year, they may also consider Volvo S80 as an option once it gets launched.
Volvo S80 is a luxury sedan and its facelift version was showcased recently at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, this car comes with a host of new changes and also with a more fuel efficient powertrain that cuts low on emissions too. The sedan looks appealing as it flaunts a smaller front grille with the ‘Volvo’ badge placed nicely in the middle, the front and rear grille makes the car look wider than before. The headlights are new and comes fitted with daytime running lamps; new alloys are also a treat for this sedan.
Compared to its exterior, the interior of S80 is more attractive as the company have used a blend of ‘craftsmanship’ with the technology which have yielded a unique result. The newer additions includes:
- * A new seven inch touchscreen
- * An in-car internet connectivity via dongle or internet enabled phones.
Under the hood, the sedan retains its earlier engine which has a 2.0-litre and 2.4-litre diesel motors with higher fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emission. The pricing of the S80 models is anticipated to be around Rs 41.9 lakh for the D4 base model and Rs 45.5 lakh for the top end D5 variant (All prices are based on ex showroom, Mumbai).
Once launched, Volvo S80 shall compete with BMW 5-series and Audi A6 in the Indian market.
Labor unrest in the factories across the country is quite common, and this time the problem has erupted at the Toyota Kirloskar Motors plant situated at Bidadi, Karnataka.
Toyota kirloskar motors has decided to completely lockout the plant until further notice. This step only has been confirmed after the Management and the Union failed to come into an agreement over the charter of demands for the period FY13-14 for the past 10 months even after conducting almost seven meetings.
In the meantime, the production line too was halted since 25days; even the involvement of the Labor Department did not yield any favorable result. Adding to the woes, reports also confirmed of abuse and threatening to supervisors thereby hampering the business for the past 25 days deliberately. All these unlawful activities has resulted in the lock-out notice ensuring the safety of the workers.
This Year, Toyota had planned to launch the Etios Cross and Corolla Altis facelift in the country but it seems that due to this plant shut down, it will be delayed. The company is spread over almost 432 acres of land and over 6400 employees worked in it. Though the company have not revealed the loss that it would face due to the shut down but according to the press release, the total production capacity of the plant was 3,10,000 units.
The workers had gone on strike on 10th February and on 28th February, and so in this way the management had already got a hint of their next step in the near future.
The Bidadi plant lockout left many questions unanswered, including the twin future launches. But it is also hoped that the company shall very soon sort out all the differences with their employees.
Here is some good news for all the luxury car enthusiasts of the Country; German premium car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has initiated the local production of their flagship model the S-Class.
This powerful and luxurious sedan will be assembled locally in the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Chakan, Pune. Added to that, the S-class earlier was quoted with the price tag of Rs. 1.57 crores but now it will be available at Rs.1.36 Crore (ex showroom Mumbai), thereby lessening the amount by almost 21 lakhs rupees. The S-class has always been counted amongst the best luxury limos setting its standard higher with every passing generation.
In order to let the owners of the S-Class to have a total luxury experience with every ride, the manufacturer has even introduced a – ‘Chauffeur Training Program’. It is a 21 module multi-lingual course for the drivers of the S-Class which focuses on training the drivers about all the features available in the car. All the fans and well wishers of Michael Schumacher from across the world perhaps heaved a sigh of relief yesterday when his manager Mr. Sabine Kehm revealed the fact that Michael has shown some encouraging signs of recovery.
The seven times F1 champion had met with an unfortunate accident while skiing in the French Alps and was immediately admitted to the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Grenoble where he had underwent surgeries for severe head injuries, Although his situation was still claimed to be critical even and the champ stayed in the state of coma for nearly ten weeks now.
Meanwhile the footage of the skiing was extracted by the authorities of the respective resort where it was revealed that he was skiing quite slowly but hit his head on the rocks when he fell. Lately, it has been in the news that Schumacher has been showing some positive signs of recovery but he is not out of danger yet. A lot of rumors as well as speculations too had erupted these days but the family members denied all baseless news.

Michael will pull through and will wake up. There sometimes are small, encouraging signs, but we also know this is the time to be very patient.” He also added that,” the family is in fact “extremely grateful” for the sympathy and interest, but it should not be forgotten Michael’s family is dealing with an extremely intimate and fragile situation. It is very hard to comprehend for all of us that Michael, who had overcome a lot of precarious situations in the past, has been hurt so terribly in such a banal situation.”
