More and more automakers are bringing their compact SUVs in Indian market, and the competition is rising to present us none but some stunning looking upmarket higher standard cars.

2016 Bajaj Platina Comfortec
While Bajaj was busy reviving the Pulsar and Discover sub-brands, in the process, it almost neglected one of its bread and butter model Platina, which remained almost unchanged for nearly five years. Still, the sales of Platina somewhat managed to remain consistent, which gave its competitors a reason to take a notice of it. However, while focusing on performance oriented segments, Bajaj almost lost the plot in the entry level 100cc commuter segment by mis-experimenting with the Discover platform, discontinuing the decent selling CT 100 and not paying any attention to the Platina sub-brand.
However, since last couple of years, Bajaj has realized its mistake and has started focusing on the segment which earns them the most number of volumes – that of the 100cc motorcycles. Thus, out goes the slow selling 100cc Discover, the CT 100 has been resurrected after ten long years from the ashes and the Platina was given its first major makeover in 2015 in the form of Platina 100 ES. Now, within a year of its launch, the Platina has given a mild refresh in the form of Platina Comfortec.
As the name suggests, the new variant gets some features and changes which have tried to make the motorcycle much more comfortable than the previous generation motorcycle as well as its competitors. How does the new Platina Comfortec fare in the current era of entry level 100cc commuters? Here’s our comprehensive review of the same:-

The scooter segment in India has come a long way from the era of Vespa derived bulky geared scooters to the present day versions of sleek and stylish automatic ones. The segment, which was almost dead in the early 2000s resurrected back, courtesy the revolutionary Honda Activa, which put the scooters back into the game.
But since then, much has changed – the automatic scooters, which were once confined to only the fairer sex buyers has now become the necessity among all family buyers. Not only females, but also males are now inclined more towards scooters, due to the levels of convenience and creature comforts they offer over motorcycles. This has led to the development of scooters which have been designed keeping in mind both males as well as females – the segment of unisex scooters.
The scooters belonging to this segment have been crafted to suit the requirements of all kinds of buyers, irrespective of their age, size and gender. The segment was catapulted by the launch of the Honda Activa back in 2000, and since then, the segment has seen a lot of action from almost all the major two wheeler manufacturers in the country.
The recent scooter to join this bandwagon is Hero MotoCorp’s all new Duet. Hero claims that the Duet, along with the more boisterous Maestro Edge, is the first ever scooter which has been independently developed by itself, without taking any input from its erstwhile partner, Honda. But will it succeed to climb all the way to the top spot?
Going may not be so easy for the Duet, as it will have to face the mammoth popularity of Activa, which has been selling like hot cakes from day one of its launch. Not to mention the two other scooters from other players, TVS Jupiter and Yamaha Alpha, which too in recent times have proven their mettle in the segment by garnering positive responses and many new homes. Here’s a quick comparison of all the four major unisex scooters in the market, and let’s find out who is the new champ on the block.
2016 Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class
Mercedes-Benz definitely is on a roll they have launched plenty of new products in the recent years and also given their existing products a thorough makeover starting from their sedans to the SUV’s. Many of you will obviously remember the GLK class which was compact Crossover from the German auto manufacturer which was actually launched back in the year 2008, this was obviously smaller than the GL class and shared most of its styling also.
Now in the year 2015 Mercedes Benz launched the second generation GLK class renamed as GLC as per as the new Nomenclature which was opted by Mercedes. What is interesting about the new SUV is the fact that this now looks nothing like the bigger Mercedes SUV’s rather it borrows most of its styling cues from the C-Class sedan which took us by surprise. Until now the GLK was not introduced in the Indian market but it was available in most of the International markets (so perhaps we Indians don’t know much about this Crossover) but according to the reports the new GLC will definitely come to the Indian shores because unlike the model it replaces this SUV is also made available with a right hand drive.
Expect this new SUV to arrive in India by the second half of 2016 and it is still unclear whether Mercedes will be bringing the new SUV via the CKD or CBU route and when it does arrive in the market this SUV will be positioned on top of the GLA and below the GLE Class. The new SUV was launched with three engine options including two diesels and one petrol unit. All these engines provides an impressive amount and torque output while the petrol variant is also offered with an impressive all new 9 speed automatic gearbox.
The new GLC Class definitely looks promising and also will satisfy everyone’s needs with its new styling and powerful engine options.
Update 02.06.2016:- Mercedes has launched the GLC luxury SUV in India. The new GLC is made available in both petrol and diesel variants. The prices for the new GLC has been updated in this article.

2016 Mahindra Nuvosport
Mahindra failed to impress the people when they launched the Quanto compact SUV in the year 2012. Be it the compact SUV’s styling or the uncomfortable middle row seats, the Quanto was a complete disaster in the Indian market, what was even more surprising was the fact that it looked like a compact MUV Xylo whose rear profile has been chopped off. Then in 2015, Mahindra introduced the TUV300 which was also another compact SUV offering from their stable but luckily this became popular amongst the compact SUV enthusiast of the country, mainly because of its unconventional styling and that newly developed engine under its hood.
Now if you thought that Mahindra will let go the Quanto so easily, then you are wrong because India’s number one utility vehicle manufacturer planned to actually launch a facelift variant of the Quanto which will equipped with an AMT transmission as well. What was even more surprising was also the fact that Mahindra actually ditched the ‘Quanto’ name as well and they have renamed their new compact SUV Nuvosport.
Now here comes the surprising part the Nuvosport is actually also using a new third generation ladder-frame platform also underpins the new generation Scorpio and the TUV300. This new platform replaces the old ladder-frame chassis; this new chassis is actually more stable and provides better support and stability. A lot has changed in terms of styling as well and quite honestly the new sub-4meter SUV definitely lost the Xylo’s shadow and gets its very own unique identity which is definitely a good thing.
Update 04.04.2016:- Mahindra launched the new Nuvosport in India today. This new compact SUV replaces the Quanto and its prices starts at INR. 7.35 Lakhs (ex showroom, Thane). We have updated the article with all the latest information and details

2016 MINI Cooper S Convertible
We are very much conscious about Volkswagen Beetle; those little bugs like vehicles have an irreplaceable and undeniable charm indeed. Although the German iconic car has a permanent place in every automobile enthusiast’s heart, but it is not sure why the MINI cars, which are substantially close to the Beetle’s, could not gain the permanent place in the petrol head’s heart.
Well, without going deeper we can assume Beetle has a long history and it was first produced as the first “people’s car” of the world. On the other hand, MINI vehicles have always delivered an elegant charm and aura which is not very close to the “people’s car” theory.
Coming back to India, BMW has made quite a profit in the country. But their subsidiary MINI couldn’t make it upto the mark. Only a few people of the country, mostly from the elegant class, use this car and that too, in a very small number. Getting Amitabh Bachchan as their prized customer MINI couldn’t afford a good share of Indian automobile market pie.
Convertibles bring us the charm and aura from the long gone era, when driving on street was so much pleasure, streets were not crowded. But as time evolved, convertibles also took a new face. MINI Cooper S Convertible come in the same way. The drop top version from the British iconic car manufacturer was unveiled a few days ago, just before the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. There is no news yet about the car launching in India. But as we have heard, this car may arrive in India sometime next year. Therefore we tried to bring our readers a detailed review of 2016 MINI Cooper S Convertible.
Update 17.03.2016: Mini Cooper S Converticble launched in India. We have updated the review with new informations and images.

2016 Fiat Tipo Hatchback
Fiat showcased their concept compact sedan Egea at the 2015 Istanbul Motor show and the reports are that it will replace the ageing Linea compact sedan which is available in many International markets including our Indian market. The production spec variant of the Egea concept was called Tipo for other markets while it will retain the Egea nameplate only for the markets of Turkey.
Now we are not too sure whether the Tipo will make its way into the Indian market or not but as of now we are keeping our fingers crossed because quite honestly the Tipo is an extremely good looking car and also is a complete package too as a whole.
Our spy photographers were also able to catch the Tipo hatchback while it was being tested in Europe which actually means that Fiat will be launching a hatchback as well which will help them to expand their product lineup. It is definitely not too hard to understand that the hatch will share the same platform with the Tipo sedan. Now considering the importance and popularity of hatchbacks in our Indian market we can assume that Fiat might even think of introducing the Tipo hatchback here in the near future. This will be a premium offering which might be positioned above the Punto which recently received a facelift here and might take on likes of some other premium hatchback offering like the Elitei20 and the upcoming Baleno RS. .
02.03.2016:- Fiat actually has unveiled the hatchback recently at the ongoing 2016 Geneva Motor show along with its other member of the Tipo family which includes the Tipo sedan and the Station Wagon. WE have updated this article with all the information available about the Tipo hatchback at this moment
