The 2012 BMW 3-series that has been recently launched in India is almost guaranteed success. The new 3-series is improved in all aspects and there is no doubting its impact in its segment. The 2012 Audi A4 is basically a facelift but changes to the exterior and interior styling and to the petrol engine have given it fresh impetus. The car that is then struggling in this segment is the Mercedes C-class as both BMW and Audi have picked up their game. The 2015 C-class has been spotted testing at the Nurburgring as part of its endurance testing programme but its India launch is at least 3 years away.
Mercedes CEO, Dr Dieter Zetsche has confirmed that Mercedes would be launching 10 completely new models by 2020 which would include the CLS Shooting Brake, a competitor to the BMW X6 and the CLA. The all new S-class is on its way and so is the E-class.
The C-class seen at the Nurburgring is a heavily disguised version. What is relatively easy to spot though is the structure of the front which has a more upright grille. The 2015 C-class is expected to be sharper in appearance and it is expected that the new C-class would share some design bits from the upcoming S-class. The tail lamps too are expected to be swept back.
Renault would be making the entry level petrol engines for the C-class and according to reports on international auto sites we could get a new 1.4-litre petrol and a new 1.6-litre diesel. The C-class is also expected to carry on with the current range of diesel and petrol engines. There will be a 1.8-litre diesel engine which will come on the B-class and the most powerful diesel engine will be the 3-litre V6 but we doubt that will make it into India.
The C-class it is expected for the first time will use a ZF gearbox which comes on the BMW.
The 2015 C-class will be the first vehicle to use the Mercedes new MRA (Mercedes rear wheel drive) platform.
Mercedes has been selling the current generation E Class model since the year 2010 and there is no denying that the E-Class is definitely considered as one of the top contenders of the mid-size luxury car segment and perhaps the toughest competitor for the BMW 5 Series and equally popular Audi A6. Mercedes gave the fourth generation E Class a thorough makeover back in 2014 and now it is clear to everyone that they will be introducing a completely new generation car to the scene.
Our photographers were able to capture some spyshots of the recent prototype while it was being tested on road. This is definitely one of the prestigious products for Mercedes and they have left no stones unturned to make the upcoming mid-size luxury sedan one of the most advanced cars of its class. The new E Class is pinned on the MRA platform which also underpins the new C-Class. The new platform makes the new generation E-Class lighter as well as rigid because it uses lot of lightweight materials in its construction.
Under its hood rumors are that it will get new inline 6 cylinder engines which will replace the existing V6 unit, the engine will also be paired to a completely new nine speed automatic transmission as well. So degrading the size of the engines will definitely increase its fuel efficiency but whether the new smaller engines will be exciting to drive? Well perhaps we have to wait for few more months in order to get our answers. Recently Mercedes has also unveiled the cabin of the new E-Class which actually draws its inspiration from S-Class cabin which actually makes this whole lot interesting I guess.
This upcoming sedan will make its global premiere at the 2016 Detroit Motor show in January and as you all can expect the new E will definitely look more stylish, will have a more sophisticated and luxurious cabin packed with new features and perhaps many more.
