Ford EcoSport caught testing. Details reviled
The soon to be launched Ford EcoSport compact SUV has been seen testing close to Chennai. The production model doesn’t seem to be very different to the concept that was globally unveiled in India at the New Delhi Auto Expo in January. The production version however doesn’t seem to have the LED’s like on the concept but the interiors have a big influence from the Ford B-Max and the Fiesta. The EcoSport is built on Ford’s global compact car platform which has been developed in association with Mazda and this is the same platform that the new Fiesta uses. The mini SUV is expected to be priced between Rs7.5 to Rs 9.5lakh. The production model will have a wheelbase of 2490mm and compared to the concept the width of the EcoSport has been increased to 1750mm while the height has been reduced by 30mm. The EcoSport is Ford’s ‘One Ford’ global product which the manufacturer hopes will help it expand its footprint in the world’s developing auto markets, like India. The EcoSport is the second of eight products Ford plans to bring to India and the manufacturer is expected to invest US$ 2 billion in the development and production of the new vehicles. Full story Ford Fiesta launched in new variants and reduced price tag
Despite its class leading ride and handling package, the Ford Fiesta wasn’t able to make an impression. The styling of the rear didn’t go down well and neither did the lack of interior space. Ford however has now introduced the Fiesta in new variants and the new range of Fiesta includes variants for the 1.5 Ti-VCT petrol Manual and the 1.5 Ti-VCT petrol Automatic. There is a new variant for the 1.5 TDCi diesel as well. Full story 2011 Ford Fiesta Automatic
The premium midsize car segment for good reason is overcrowded and just about every manufacturer serious about making it big in India is present in this segment. When Ford launched the Fiesta last year in the Indian market, the manufacturer had hoped that after the success of the Figo the Fiesta would too be able to cash in on the momentum and ride home the advantage. Ford after all was enjoying its best time yet in India but the Fiesta just didn’t take off and sales have been below mediocre. The advertising campaigns and marketing was strong but the sixth-generation Fiesta which also echoed Ford’s Kinetic Design styling language, failed to build from where the Figo left. Ford has now launched the Fiesta with a dual clutch automatic gearbox, a first in the segment. The ‘PowerShift’ transmission features a dry-clutch setup in a completely sealed unit and Ford claims that the transmission is maintenance-free and good for 2.4 lakh kms or 10 years. Prices for the Fiesta Automatic start from Rs 8.99lakh to Rs 9.70lakh ex-showroom New Delhi. Full story Ford shows India bound B-Max at Geneva
Ford has shown an almost production ready version of the B-Max at the Geneva Motor Show. This multi-utility vehicle is based on the Ford Fiesta platform which also serves as the basis for the EcoSport compact SUV which was shown at the New Delhi Auto Expo. The B-Max is part of Ford’s new global product strategy and the MPV could well make it into India as early as 2013 with a pricing of between Rs 9 to 11lakhs. Full story Ford launches Fiesta Powershift Automatic

Full story 2013 Ford B Max
Ford has big plans for India and the manufacturer has already announced that is planning to launch close to 15 new models by 2015. One of these models could be the new Ford B Max which would be the production version of the B Max concept presented at the Geneva Motor Show. The concept measures 4.04 meters so there is all possibility that the production version will measure less than 4 meters and that would allow it to benefit from low excise duty. The new B Max could have a bright future in India considering our love for MPV’s and while Ford hasn’t revealed the prices yet, the B Max should be priced lower than the EcoSport SUV. Globally the new MPV will be launched in the summer and we can expect for an Indian debut later this year or in the beginning of 2013. Full story Ford takes the cover off the EcoSport
Ford’s launch of their all new global vehicle, the EcoSport, at the eve of the 12th New Delhi Auto Expo has been one of the most anticipated and important launches of the event. The EcoSport crossover is built on the same platform as the global Fiesta which was launched in 2011and is the latest ‘One Ford’ product, aimed at expanding the manufacturers’ footprint in the developing markets of the world. Full story 2004 - 2010 Ford Fusion
Why the Ford Fusion didn’t take off in India still remains a mystery. If you think about it, the Fusion ticked all the right boxes. It was spacious with good ground clearance, there were both a diesel and petrol engine and the ride and handling was good as well. The pricing wasn’t completely off either. Ford at the time of the Fusion suffered from an image problem which kept away a lot of people and many also had their concerns with the reliability of Ford cars. The manufacturer called the Fusion an ‘Urban Activity Vehicle’ which was more on the lines of a crossover and the Fusion was launched in India in 2004. Some would argue that like the Ford Mondeo, the Fusion too was ahead of its time. Ford pulled the plug off the Fusion in 2010 but the Fusion still makes for a sensible choice if you get your hands on a used one. Full story 2012 Ford Fiesta Hatchback
The Figo brought Ford redemption, but now the manufacturer needs to make amends for the unexpectedly low sales of the Fiesta. The answer the manufacturer hopes will lie in the Fiesta hatchback. Test models have already been seen doing the rounds in India and at the Auto Expo Ford would be showcasing the Fiesta. The launch is expected in early 2012 with a starting price of around Rs 6.5lakh.
